First day of school
Mellow went on the doggo bus for the first time today!
Everyone knows cool kids sit in the back 🤣
Anyone’s pupper sounds like Mr Cashew 🐻❄️
Sleep training?
I have a nocturnal sammie who refuses to let us sleep at night. We’ve had our baby for 2.5 weeks now. He’s 13 weeks old. He’s the sweetest and silliest boy and our family is absolutely in love with him. We were very ready mentally to bring home a sammie puppy, and honestly we’ve adjusted to the crate training, potty training, grooming training, puppy training and everything really well. One thing we weren’t expecting was his inability to sleep through the night.
He has been waking us up every hour and a half to play, 4-6 times throughout the night. We take him outside but he only uses the bathroom once out of these 4-6 times. And that’s what I was expecting at this age, 1-2 night time potty breaks, not 4-6. We’ve tried the crate at night and he will bark the entire time with no stopping, even if I’m laying on the floor next to him with my hand in the crate. He will lay in his crate and sleep during the day, but not at night. We’ve let him sleep on the bed with us and he’ll wake up and pounce on our heads and bark in our ears or gnaw on our hands if we try to ignore him. We’ve let him sleep on the floor and he will scratch at our bed and bark every hour and a half.
We have a puppy trainer and even he is at a loss because he says I’m already doing everything he can think of. I am a sahm and our puppy is only alone when we’re crate training and intentionally spending time away from him to help prevent separation anxiety. Other than that, he’s very active with me, we either run errands, train, socialize with people and other dogs, he’s stimulated mentally and physically during the day and he gets a solid 20 minutes of physical and mental stimulation before bed. He naps during the day but not to the point where he should be awake every other hour in the night. He also has every kind of teething or chew toy accessible if he’s bored, and he’s not destructive, he literally just wants us to wake up and play with him.
Does anyone else have a nocturnal sammie? Are there tips to help him adjust to sleeping at night? Or is this just a waiting game until he matures more?
Angel baby Samoyed
Here is my 8 week old Samoyed we just brought home, Remi! He’s doing great with crate training & potty training. We live in North Carolina and the summer is kind of brutal. We’ve only been taking him out for potty breaks and letting him sit in the AC otherwise. I have one cooling mat for him, but am looking for other suggestions on how to keep my baby cool!
Post your Sammy’s fav spot in the house.
This is like his fav spot in the house. Direct line of sight to the kitchen, the snacks, the treats. Snapped a photo of him while I was doing HW.
Almost 2 years old and still can't pee without wetting his front paws in pee
This is luffy he has a dumb face and isn't the brightest. He's almost 2 years old and is not fixed yet and for whatever reason he does not lift his leg to pee. He only squats and pisses his front paw completes every day without fail. How do I deal with this piss baby situation and have him pee like a real man
I think he wants to play
he’s like an annoying little brother 😭
We're excited to let you know that we're celebrating the Cocker Spaniel on the AKC's Facebook page, Instagram Stories, and website today! Our Breed of the Day series highlights a different breed Monday - Friday to educate our followers on AKC-recognized breeds. While this sub is always for the Cocker Spaniel fans, we're loving all of the anecdotes about this wonderful breed on our posts.
Dematting guidance
We just picked up this Samoyed. The owner told us they had some grooming needs but this is unexpected. We spent all morning brushing so this is better.
I went ahead and ordered cowboy magic, a poodle comb, and some omega oil, we already own a slicker brush and metal comb. We’re hoping we can get these out. Is there anything else I may be missing? I searched this sub but I wanted to double check to see if there is anything else that may help. She hates being groomed so anything that makes it easier for us.
Our groomer is coming later this week to take a full depth look and give her a sanitary trim.
Thanks to you all for always being helpful❤️
What's that look on your face?
Sure enough, close-up shots are the ugliest.🤪
Wildflowers are done for the year but these are from our woodland walkies last week
must… dig…
as for this summer’s activities, coconut has developed quite a taste in searching our garden
Speech buttons?
Has anyone tried speech buttons with their Sam? I know the idea that dogs form complex sentences is mostly fake but I’m wondering if buttons would cut down on some of the barking if they’re in different locations. For example if there were one by the door, one by the food and one by the treat bin would they distinguish that this button on this side of the house gets me this thing and more importantly would they do that instead of bark at me constantly?

How can this be comfortable?
I’m sure in Samoyed World this is normal, but wow…the corkscrew sleeping position is really funky! The trusty giant carrot is the icing on the cake. I’m pretty sure most of you see this every day, too…although the carrot may be a stuffed bunny, rawhide bone, or something else. They’re wonderful pups, aren’t they?
Everyone has that one photo
Step 1: scream/sigh.
Step 2: find a camera.
This is the worst I’ve ever seen. Years ago our neighbor left the hose running until it created a massive pond. I let the dogs out and heard splashing. “Wait… we don’t have a pool!?!”
