Wolfie's + Rascal House closing

From their FB page this morning:

"To Our Valued Guests,

Thank you for your support of The Original Wolfie's and Rascal House in Sarasota's Arts District. After much thoughtful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to permanently close our Sarasota location, effective immediately.

While this chapter has come to an end, our story is far from over. Our Lakewood Ranch location will continue serving all of your favorite takeout and catering offerings, and we look forward to welcoming you there.

Even more exciting, we are preparing for the next chapter of the Wolfie's legacy. Later this year, we will introduce our first Wolfie's 21 Hand Cut in the UTC area! This will be a fresh new concept featuring modern, 21st-century takes on the classic flavors and quality you've come to know and love.

We can't wait to share more details in the coming months as we get closer to opening. Thank you for being part of our journey. Your continued support means everything to us, and we look forward to serving you again very soon.

Stay tuned!

The Original Wolfie's and Rascal House Team"

Oh wow, another Sal "NY Deli" venture bites the dust. I never went there based on the pricing alone. I hope he goes back to Colorado or wherever he was retired to and doesn't take another investor for a ride here in town.

What are the Best Road vs. Gravel/Trail Bike Riding Options Near Sarasota?

Hi all Road and Gravel/Trail/Mountain biking folks! I'm considering a move to the area and looking for the best places to road cycle and separately (non-sandy) unpaved roads and trails. Also would love if you would share where you like parking). I'll be searching for centrally located homes to minimize travel. For gravel/trail, I don't mind some technical riding, but prefer 10+ mile loops. For road cycling, I prefer 20-50+ mile loops with lowest car/traffic danger. I currently live in South Fort Myers and everything local is too sandy for gravel/trail. I have to drive to Caloosahatchee or 30 min south for anything decent :-( My googling/ChatGPTing has me looking at Venice/Nokomis for access to Myakka, T. Mabry Carlton Reserve, and Deer Prairie Creek for gravel/trail and Legacy Trail (train depot parking?) for Road riding. Please share your favorites and thank you very much!

Road Rage Silly

I think we can all agree that people with testosterone/alcohol fueled road rage deserve to be thrown off guard.

I was driving taking a right off stickney onto Tamiami when a jeep flies through his left turn across from me and intentionally weaves and near misses my car(all other lanes open).. speeding up to a red light lol. So I honk because I have free will.

He decides to pull up next to me and start yelling saying how bad of a driver I am. He’s furious, veins sticking out of his forehead. I smile, hold a peace sign up to my face, and start flicking my tongue in and out. Giving him heart signs, and blowing kisses :) (27m straight lol) this goes on for a solid 30 seconds. He then starts yelling homophobic slurs at me so I smile, wiggle my finger, point, and say “no you 🥰” He gave up, flipped me off and sped away.

One of these days I may put myself in a bad situation but man do I love throwing road ragers for a loop.

Bbq

Title says it, where’s the best bbq within an hour drive?? Side of the road, grandmas house, a dirty bathroom in a trucker gas station. I would rather not take my entire family to Texas or Carolina’s every time I am craving bbq! (But will)

Cost Effective Wisdom teeth removal

Hi guys! I was wondering if anybody had any good, cost effective places for wisdom teeth removal. I need to remove all four teeth. The place where my insurance said I would have the most savings (Lakewood Ranch Oral and Facial Surgery) has been horrible at answering calls and getting me the proper information and STILL is wanting to charge me $4981 WITH insurance. There has to be somewhere better but I don’t want to waste too much time searching, because my teeth are erupting and I’m terrified they could get infected any day. PLEASE HELP if you can!!!!!!

Whimsical Bicycles of Sarasota

Location: Behind Fogartyville Community Center 🚲

Not so long ago, downtown Sarasota was dotted with bright, whimsical bicycles—each one transformed into a joyful sculpture by William “Dr. Nik” Pearson. They weren’t official art pieces. They weren’t part of any program. They simply appeared, quietly, like gifts.

Dr. Nik never titled his bikes or signed them. He just placed them around the city as expressions of peace, love, and playful human connection. You could be walking downtown, lost in your thoughts, when a burst of color pulled you back into the moment: flamingos, flowers, peace bells, hearts, and odd little charms that made you smile before you even realized it.

Over time, these bikes became unofficial Sarasota landmarks—art without boundaries, woven into the city’s creative identity. Children climbed on them. Photographers hunted for them. Locals pointed them out to visitors.

When Dr. Nik passed away in 2024, the bikes quietly disappeared. His storage unit—filled with bikes, marionettes, instruments, and metal characters from his animated films—was nearly hauled away as scrap. His whimsical world was moments from being crushed.

But Sarasota stepped in. ❤️

WSLR + Fogartyville rallied volunteers, launched a fundraiser, and rescued the entire collection in a last‑minute save.

Today, every surviving bike rests safely behind the Fogartyville Community Center, waiting for its next chapter.

Dr. Nik’s art was never about prestige. It was about presence—the way a splash of color can change a street, or how a strange little sculpture can make a stranger smile. His bikes reminded Sarasota that creativity doesn’t need permission.

Now that they’ve been saved, the question becomes: what comes next?

The bikes deserve to be seen again. They belong to the city that loved them—often without ever knowing the man behind them.

Maybe that’s the perfect tribute: that Dr. Nik’s art continues to spark joy long after he’s gone, still surprising people, still brightening corners, still reminding Sarasota that creativity can live anywhere—even on an old bicycle left on the side of the road.

Does anyone know if Marina Jack is hosting their yearly firework show?

Because of the extreme drought and restrictions on fireworks, I haven't heard anything about any other local firework shows.

Walmart on Cattleman

Hi I have shopped Walmart on Cattleman just south of BeeRidge for years. I have always found it to be decently kept and decently stocked as far as groceries until this week(7/1/26). I was appalled at the condition of half of the produce. The green peppers looked one step away from being tossed— tiny and spotted with the beginnings of decay. Some of the produce areas were empty of everything. when I moved on to get my favorite brand of cheese, which in any store always has at least 10 or more varieties, I could find only 3 varieties, none of which were the one I was looking for. why would they no longer have an entire brand line?

I do not want to have to give up on Walmart — their prices fit my budget, which is the primary reason that I shop there. (Do not mention Aldi, i am not a fan) A secondary reason is that they are conveniently close to my doctors office so when I go to the doctor, I can easily stop at Walmart afterward.

Has the store had a change in management? I do not know what else could account for the poor conditions of the grocery section.

College Grad Lookout

Happy 4th y'all, I'm a recent college grad who started a marketing/ website business for local businesses here in Sarasota. I've been running it for about 1 year now, and I'm capable of building websites, doing SEO, running targeted ads on Facebook & Google, email marketing, custom software solutions and creating marketing content for Facebook, Instagram and Tiktok. I'm looking to partner with some local businesses that can't afford to hire a big company and are looking for an affordable option to handle everything online for them. If this is you or you know anybody who could benefit, i'd love to connect or get a referral. Fyi i had to repost this because i lost access to my previous account!

Preparing for a Trip to Europe with Chronic Back Pain – Looking for Affordable Help in Sarasota

Hi everyone!

I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I’ve been wanting to take my health more seriously for a while now, but between starting a new job and getting settled into a routine, I finally feel like I’m in a place where I can really commit to it.

One of my biggest goals is preparing for an upcoming trip to Europe. I’m really excited, but I’m also nervous because I deal with chronic low back pain (L5 issues), really tight calves and hamstrings, foot pain, and if I overdo it walking, I usually end up with a flare-up that makes it difficult to move for the rest of the day or even the next. I’m also getting over a recent shoulder injury.

I don’t have health insurance right now, so I’m hoping to find someone affordable who can help me build strength, improve my mobility, and safely increase my endurance. My goal isn’t just to get through the trip. I’d really love to get into the best shape I’ve been in for years and continue that progress afterward.

I’m not looking for medical advice or a quick fix. I’m looking for recommendations for people or places you’ve personally had a great experience with.

Specifically, I’m hoping to find:

• A personal trainer with experience working with chronic pain or mobility issues.

• An affordable physical therapist who accepts self-pay.

• A gym with knowledgeable trainers who work well with beginners or people recovering from injuries.

• Any other local resources that genuinely helped you.

I’m ready to put in the work. I plan on walking, swimming, stretching, and strength training consistently. I just want to make sure I’m doing it the right way so I don’t keep making my pain worse.

If you’ve worked with someone in the Sarasota or Bradenton area that you’d recommend, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!

Decent Income for Sarasota?

Currently live in Toronto, and received a job offer in Sarasota for a Customer Success role. Base Pay is 160K. There is no bonuses as the company is a startup and just getting started. Wanted to see how cost of living is. IT would just be myself, 33M.

Is this enough to live a comfortable life? Most places downtown I see for rent are around 3K a month.

I know we have opinions.

Yes this is real.

Also, you should see the comments on Facebook about this. Let me paraphrase one:

"muhFREEFUMN! Murica the great is turning 250 this year. My next door neighbor is the sheriff and he's launching fireworks from my backyard party! We just bought out the local fireworks store yehaw"

Kid you not, that was at least one of them.

I'll be sleeping in, like last year lol

New College of Florida

I’m looking for some honest perspectives because I’ve found myself in a situation I wasn’t expecting.
I’ve been offered a position at New College of Florida in the mid-$50k range. The role itself is a great fit for my experience, and it would be a significant pay increase from what I currently make. I’ve also been trying to leave Mississippi for quite a while, and with how difficult the job market has been, I don’t take having an offer lightly.

The part I’m struggling with is New College itself.

When I applied, I honestly didn’t know much about the school. It wasn’t until I was interviewing and researching the institution that I learned about everything that’s happened over the past few years.

I’ve read a lot since then, and it’s clear the college has become incredibly controversial. Personally, I don’t feel like I can separate the job from the institution or pretend the political climate doesn’t matter. At the same time, I’m also trying to balance that against the reality that this is a real career opportunity in a very difficult job market.

On top of that, the salary is in the mid-$50k range, which would be a meaningful increase for me, but I also know Sarasota’s cost of living is much higher than where I currently live.

I’m genuinely interested in hearing from people who know the school, have worked there, or are familiar with the Sarasota higher education community. If you were in my position, how would you think through this? Would the institution itself give you pause, or would you see it as a reasonable place to build experience early in your career?

I’m really trying to make a thoughtful decision, and I’d appreciate respectful, firsthand perspectives.
