Any updates on the simpler writing app they were working on?

It looked really cool and I’m interested in it. I heard some people were given access and I’ve been waiting for updates for a while but it seems abandoned now.

recover previous version--saved on OneDrive

My Scrivener project is saved on OneDrive. Is there a way to restore the whole project to a previous version? Just revert the entire project to a specific date.

for context: I had deleted and moved around a whole bunch of pages with the intent of doing a huge reorg of the whole project---then abandoned it for a year. Now I have no memory of what my intent was and want to go back to the last completed draft.

EDIT:

I figured it out! I had to combine a few different articles to do all the steps:

Scrivener Background Problem

Attached is me trying to explain my situation as best as I can with images. Image 1 shows from left-to-right Scrivener, Paint, other writing app. Image 2 shows a zoom-in of Scrivener and the other writing app utilizing the same image.

I have been trying to fix an issue for over 3 years. It’s causing me to use Scrivener less and less, as dumb as it sounds. Instead, I’ve been using something else for heavy-writing, but I wish I could use Scrivener for everything.

I don’t understand exactly why this is happening. Something to do with the application itself, and nothing on my end? I’ve tried every kind of image, at every kind of resolution. I tried e-mailing Scrivener a couple years ago, but that didn’t really go anywhere because it didn’t seem like either of us knew what was wrong.

It seems like this is only an issue on Windows/PC? I don’t know for sure. It’s really frustrating because I LOVE everything else about Scrivener. It’s the perfect writing application for me and my distracted brain T_T I use it with its companion app, Scapple. But, then I look at this, and it sucks I know I can just tab over to the other writing app I used to use and it looks great. But I don't want to!

I love Scrivener and if this one issue gets fixed it will be perfect in my eyes.

Edit: I have found a temporary band-aid and have posted it in the comments. Dithering images helps!

Will focus mode ever come to windows?

I’ve always been a huge over-editor when writing, to the point it sometimes takes hours for me to write a page because I constantly go back and edit. I downloaded Scrivener primarily because I saw someone talk about the focus mode, and it made me super excited because that’s exactly what I need. But I’ve been looking, and focus mode does not appear for me at all on windows. Does anyone know if they ever plan on adding it?

Made a free iOS app to open and read raw Markdown (.md) files on iPhone/iPad — handy for peeking at Logseq pages outside the app

Logseq stores everything as plain .md files, but if you ever open one of those files directly on iOS (from Files, iCloud, Dropbox, a backup, etc.) you just get raw text. I built a small viewer to read them rendered on a phone.

Md Preview:

• Renders GitHub-Flavored Markdown — headings, tables, task lists, footnotes

• Code blocks with syntax highlighting, plus LaTeX math and Mermaid diagrams

• Opens .md / .markdown / .mdx / .rmd / .qmd from Files or the Share Sheet

• 100% on-device — no account, no uploads, no ads, no subscriptions

Free on the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6760341080

Details: https://markdown.cybergame.ai/

Not a Logseq replacement at all — just a quick way to read loose .md files when you're away from the desktop app. Curious how you all read your graph on the go.

Is Scrivener worth it or is there better?

For so long in my life I’ve written my books in the notes app and then moved onto reedsy. Recently though, especially as I move into the later drafts of my novel, I’ve tried searching for another writing website/app since reedsy—while very useful—doesn’t really have space or capabilities to store past drafts. That means I would have to download my old drafts before clearing space. Another problem I have with reedsy is that if you don’t open your ‘book’ in (I think) three months, it would automatically be moved to the trash.

Anyways, I began searching for a new writing software, somewhere that wouldn’t feed my writings into AI.

I tried Ellipsis earlier but something that bugged me was how if you write more than 25k words in a single document, the entire thing glitches.

Also, I’ve been searching for something permanent. Something I’ve been hoping to use for years and years.

I’ve always heard of scrivener. I tried the free trial and I really liked it! My problem though, is that not only is it expensive (50-60 bucks) but also, I’m wondering whether it’s worth it to get scrivener on my iPad (which is I think 25 bucks) or a laptop.

I typically write on my iPad but I heard I would have to download Dropbox and Scrivener takes up a lot of storage and it’s not as useful since I wouldn’t be able to use split-windows. I’ve heard people even say how useful the wider screen is on the laptop.

I’m wondering whether, if I buy scrivener, to get it on my iPad or my laptop?

I was thinking I could probably transfer my writings from my iPad to the scrivener on my laptop if I buy it there. Or should I just buy scrivener on my iPad?

How would I copy my beta Gdoc into scrivener for revision

Hi I'm very new to scrivener and technologically dumb so sorry if this is a stupid question.

I write fanfic. I'm trying out the scrivener trial.

I use beta readers. So I pasted my doc from scrivener into googledocs and my betas left comments. I want to edit in Scrivener and not jump between windows.

How would I bring my Googledoc into my scrivener doc and still have their comments visible? id like to use split screen or something so I can have the two docs side by side?

easiest way to merge three short stories into what will become a novel?

I have three short stories that I wrote separately. The reactions from the beta readers are "we want this as a novel - add more!!"

Is there any easier way to bring them into a single file to become a novel, other than just copy/paste all the content into a single new file?

Preventing line breaks from becoming section breaks

I have a novella that I wrote in a plain text editor and then imported into Scrivener. The import and split worked fine, but now when I compile, the fact that I put an additional line break after every paragraph in the original text means that I'm getting a section break after every paragraph. I could just go through and delete the extraneous lines, but I am also working with a novel wherein that will be a much more daunting proposition.

What's the best way to convince Scrivener that a section break should go between documents in the binder, and not on a double line break? I did some looking but all the advice I found was either confusing or for an earlier version of the software.

Thanks!

How to turn off the feature where it suggests the next word

Hi All, I just installed Scrivener in my new Macbook and the version is upgraded from the one I was using on my old one. This version is doing that thing (forgive me for not knowing the correct term - autosuggest?) where grey text suggests what the next word is. I thought Scrivener was strictly anti AI, so it's disappointing that this feature suddenly appeared, and it's driving me nuts! I don't need a computer to write my book! </soapbox>

It wasn't on my old version or maybe I turned it off long ago. I'm poking around the menus trying to figure out how to turn it off but I can't figure it out. Can anyone help?

Need Help to Compile Part of Manuscript

I am trying to export a subfolder of my project (Manuscript > Folder1 > Folder1.1), but I can't use the dropdown or any of the buttons on the right side of the menu (img) that look as though they would help me fine-tune what I'm trying to compile. I'm assuming it's a me issue, but it seems broken. I'd really like to avoid having to check boxes individually to get what I need

Odd Spelling Errors - GB Eng

Fairly new to scrivener. Using it on Windows - with system and app dictionaries all set to GB Eng (as far as I can tell)

But seeing some oddities to what Scrivener believes to be spelling mistakes.

I may be embarrassingly wrong here - but it's claiming some words are misspelled that I am convinced are correct.

Some examples:

Thrusters

Pre-planned

Any ideas?
