I've been playing Simcity 4 for a few years and l always come acrros posts from cities with INCREDIBLE design ( both here on Reddit and Simtropolis )
l have some questions:
Night view of my cyberpunk-style industrial district in SimCity 4.
The lights, smoke, factories, and megastructure buildings make it feel much more like a futuristic industrial megacity.
My old region crashed, so I'm trying something new and pre-planning my new region. I've never actually gotten to massive skyscrapers before despite playing this game for hundreds of hours. Hopefully, this new strategy will change that.
I need some advice about what simcity actually wants in order to develop a robust industrial and commercial sector. My understanding is that you want to have commercial zoning between residential and industrial, so that was the initial game plan when mapping this out. I was also trying to keep my industry near water, but I need to plan for a railroad system as well. Any advice about a good rail system would be much appreciated.
My last question is does r/simcity4 have a preference for playing on easy, normal, or hard mode?
Thanks.

Hi, I made a collage of the city I built with a preview where you can zoom-in and navigate it freely to see it up close.
Here you go: https://saustartar.vercel.app
Since the image is 100+MB, it'll probably take a few seconds for it to load.
This is inspired by the Isometric NYC made by @/_coenen.
I tried to create a cyberpunk-style industrial complex in SimCity 4.
Heavy industry, futuristic towers, energy facilities, smokestacks, and dense infrastructure all packed together.
Bro said my powerplants are almost done. I checked all 3 of them. 2 are in 80% condition and 92% capacity.
I ignored it and he's still complaining.
So I changed them with new ones and added another one.
Bro is still complaining. 🤣 wtf is wrong with this dude?
I never get bored when starting a new region. It's such a great game. Wanted to created this time a pedestrian friendly and somewhat green region with high education. Providing crossings and pedestrian bridge, walkable path really helps the fluidity of the traffic. Thanks to NAM and the team. Budget has a light deficit.
Thanks to Rj Simas ! for the camera mod.
I used tunnels to create a grade-separated intersection between two main roads.
One road works like a bypass, so I wanted it to pass through without a normal surface intersection.
The nice thing is that this can be done without mods, using the tunnel tool and a bit of terrain/road layout adjustment.
It is a small trick, but useful when you want a more realistic road network.
Hi all,
I've really been enjoying getting back into Sim City 4 after quite a while. I've got the NAM lite mod installed, and my city is hovering around 55-60k population quite steadily.
I'm at the stage where the entire city is zoned up and mainly high density across residential, commercial, and industrial. Demand is mainly residential low and mid-income, with commercial fluctuating between some demand and low demand, and high tech dipping in and out.
I'm trying to stay disciplined to keep the budget balanced (around $500,000k cash atm and bringing in around 26k in revenue each month) and avoid building things like monorails just because they look cool, I know that'd be a financial sinkhole.
Wondering what people typically focus on at this stage to keep a city like this growing, and where the micromanagement is typically targeted to keep things moving? I've just been sort of sitting on 3 speed and letting cash build up and then occasionally dipping in and out of shifting the knobs for schools and hospital capacity to manage $.
I do get intermittent unemployment (you can see in screenshot below) that will come and go, is that normal?
I've been eying a new MacBook Air, ik im insane because of the price surge... aside from that, does anyone here have any experience with SC4 on this system? More specifically, does it heat up or crash as much as in Windows?
I’ve been trying to get Som City 4 to run in 1440p for some time now, and nothing is working
I’ve tried several tricks, including a wrapper, Steam Properties command line and some other mod that was supposed to detect my GPU
I’ve updated all of my drivers
Does anyone have a solid fix for this?
i know there’s something on here but i don’t know where… i can’t get this game to stop crashing and i know it isn’t my pc.
any tips to get this running nicely on a modern computer with windows 11 :/
