I always see people in this community complain about so many things that have never happened to me. For example, client not letting you finish your intro, one party not wanting to spell something or doing it too fast, families interrupting the interpretation, clients getting angry at you for something that is the Lep’s fault.
I trust people’s experiences here - I’m not suggesting that’s it’s due to impatience or that it’s their perception of things nor anything. Like seriously, none of these things have ever happened to me. My question is genuine.

Pd: I think I’ve had just 1 rude client and 1 rude LEP. I’ve been working as an interpreter since march on Bilingual LS and then Propio for reference.

Ah y dijo que tomaba morfina para la diabetes, chicos se van a morir si ni siquiera saben como se llama su medicacion, va con onda pero esta gente existe, me preocupa el futuro.

During last week I got contacted by Propio to do an interview, I explained the man I needed the job because I come from a troubled family and I'm disabled so working from home was ideal for me. Also the salary paying me .13 per minute. I did all the courses passing with 80 for Interpreting 101 and 95 with MTAP.

Today I did the English Proficiency Test and the Mock-Up assesments AND ALMOST INSTANTLY after submitting my mock-up test I get this email saying I broke their zero-tolerance policy when all I did for the tests was note down, analyze, repeat and look up online dictionaries for words I didn't understand/weren't in the glossary. I'm wondering what the hell I did wrong because all I did was follow instructions and I get hit by this.

With all that said, does anyone know any other interpreting service out of/works from Costa Rica? I am in need of a stable income as I have a 400$ medical debt with private healthcare over here as I was put in a years long waitlist in public healthcare, and I was promised I would get hired. Now I'm upset

Yo antes trabajaba de interprete en blanco para una empresa, pero por temas del poco sueldo y las condiciones de trabajo decidi pasarme a Propio hace poco mas de un mes. Este trabajo se supone que es temporal hasta que consiga algo en mi rubro (espero que no tome mas de un año) y mi pregunta es que tan importante es que tramite el monotributo o que blanquee el ingreso de dinero, siendo que tampoco es una cantidad exorbitante lo que gano, me puedo llegar a meter en problemas?

Edit: A lo que va mi pregunta es mas bien a si alguien esta al menos hace un par de meses (o mas de un año) trabajando de la misma forma sin declarar y si han tenido algun problema. Para los que aconsejan lo de asesorarme, gracias, si planeo hacerlo, pero quiero saber de alguien que haya tenido la experiencia directa sin ir por el camino de poner todo en blanco

I had a call and I had to leave this on the comment section

Client had a low English level and often made grammar mistakes. It was really difficult for the Client to even understand basic information. Also, Client would repeat each question twice and interrupt the interpreter, causing some confusion during the call. For example: "What is your date of birth?..... date of birth?" Interpreter had to speak EXTREMELY slow for the Client to get basic spellings, even the LEP was getting frustrated by this situation.

I'll change the names and everything, but I want to explain what I mean.

At some point Client asked for LEP's email and it was First name Last name some numbers @ gmail.com ... I spent over 3 minutes spelling the email because Client didn't understand it or thought the spelling was too fast. They had the LEPs name and last name right there and it was something like JorgePerez1234... , something really simple.

I ended up spelling the whole email like the Client was 5 years old, and I felt it was insulting.

So, what I wanted to say is. After this call, I noticed my average satisfaction rating for the day on Propio went down a little bit.

It's really unfair clients can rate us, but we cannot rate them.

LEP was just checking in, and he told her, "Hold on to this little interpreter here. The nurses prefer that." I was all invested in the role that I just went. "This is in the interpreter, did you say I am a little interpreter" he was like "yeah, that's what I said" and after interpreting that did I snap back on what had just happened. HELP, THAT CAN BE SO TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT

Nada, eso. me llego un correo de la reclutadora y queria saber si son flexibles con horarios o si los podia poner todos de noche

I mean, have someone who doesnt speak english say word IN ENGLISH doesnt make much sense to me, i know theres no other way around it, but most of the time i end up guessing, specially since they think they said it right so many times when i ask for spelling they get annoyed and spell really fast to get it over with.

I am not sure if I have gotten the term correct, but I have been for about 2 hours with this woman who checked in because she was feeling contractions and it's been monitored, and she is dilating (1 cm in an hour) and long hold periods. And they have told her they will check every hour. And it does not seem they intend to dismiss me anytime soon.

But I don't know yet. Does it count? It's so exciting, though, even if she doesn't go into labor with me on the phone, she will later give birth, it would still be exciting to have been involved before a new life is born.😭

And some advice, I am still here, and I haven't been on a call for this long, especially, just about to end my shift and be hungry for my lunch. I have just been getting up and doing some movement in the meantime. But any further advice?

If I am going to be here once she is until actual delivery or labor. I DONT EVEN KNOW THE DIFFERENCE HELP. I mean, once she gives birth, am I dismissed then or sfter that???

Hoy hice el mock test de propio, me puse demasiado nervioso y cometi muchos errores. No lo pase y aun no me dicen cuando lo puedo volver a tomar pero por lo que veo es en 3 meses. Vale la pena esperar esos 3 meses (aun tengo trabajo en LLS) o aplico a lionbridge o globo? o si es mucho mejor propio como para esperar?

en interpretia te meten al horno 15 días, te dicen que estás entrenado, y te mandan a hacer turnos de 8 horas donde te encontras de TODO

el chico que se peleó, el que esta preso, al bebé que están vacunand, y NADIE TE PREPARA. y no te podes equivocar. si le erras a un número de reclamo bueno, quizás causas una demora. pero y las dosis? si hablas con un preso y no le dan lo que solicitan?

muchas veces pienso, no estoy calificado, pero si rechazo (que no tengo esa opcion, más que cortar)

Hola grupo por favor si alguien sabe de una compañía que pague más de 0.12 por minuto de interpretación. A mi me está pagando por VRI ese monto ya que me dieron ahora las videollamadas.(antes era 0.10) La verdad que ya llevo casi 2 años trabajando y creo que podría intentar postular a otra compañía qué pague mejor.

Buenas! Les pongo un poco en contexto del por qué de mi dilema.

Trabajo en Billingual hace más de 6 meses.

En julio hice el Mock para Propio y lo desaprobé, me dieron la oportunidad de hacerlo otra vez ahora en octubre.

Hace tres días me mandaron de Interprepedia para hacer una entrevista con ellos, se que Interprepedia trabaja para Propio.

No sé que me conviene hacer? Hago otra vez el Mock de propio o acepto a Interprepedia?

Tengo miedo de quedarme sin el pan y sin la torta, pero también ahora tengo más experiencia como intérprete.

Saludos, aquí haciendo una pregunta para ver si alguien le ha pasado esto:

Estaba en mi día de descanso y voy viendo que el mandamás envío un correo donde dice que he sido seleccionado para ser ahora un intérprete hibrido (con vídeo). Lo raro es que mi supervisora directa no me dijo nada (y no hay manera de preguntarle hasta el lunes porque no trabaja sab ni dom).

Alguna opinión? A alguien más le ha sucedido?

Si ese es el caso no creo seguir como intérprete, estar lejos de una camara de video era la única cosa realmente buena de este trabajo. En fin, los leo.

No sé si sólo me pasa a mí, pero me molesta que siempre se la pasan interrumpiendo en la llamada.

Acabo de tener una llamada en donde la familiar del LEP estaba respondiendo y traduciendo todo para el paciente cada vez que yo intentaba interpretar. Le pregunté a la doctora si podía estar on stand by o desconectarme de la llamada para evitar las interrupciones, y la doctora se ofendió jajjajaj, me dijo que tenía que seguir interpretando porque el paciente no entendía, y luego ella misma me empezó a interrumpirme y a intentar hacer las preguntas en español. No supe qué hacer y me quedé ahí, pero me da miedo eso, porque después pueden pensar que estoy haciendo camping en la línea :(

Cuando laburo a la mañana, me llueven dial-outs. A la tarde-noche, quizá 7 u 8PM, alguno que trabaje esas horas, nota llamadas mas largas?

Pues me puse nervioso y la cagué jajajajaja hasta la presentación la dije mal, cerré el navegador porque me decepcioné y dejé la prueba incompleta, ya pasaron varios días y hoy intenté entrar y me deja retomarlo todavía pero seguro no voy a pasar o me lo van a invalidar, alguien sabe que otra empresa tiene la misma modalidad freelance como Propio? Que no sea lionbridge, de ahí nunca me respondieron

Estoy pensando en comprarme unos auriculares con micrófono, pero todavía no sé cuáles elegir.

¿Qué auriculares usan ustedes? ¿Cuáles me recomendarían comprar?
