honestly surprised how much the memory update changes things

kinda forgot how nice it is when the AI actually remembers stuff. lol. I was going through an old chat i abandoned months ago and it's wild how far things have come back then. Like the bot would forget my character's name by message three lol. Memory systems still have their moments though. Sometimes it'll randomly mix up details like my hair color or what we were doing a few messages back. But when it works it's actually kind of impressive? idk maybe i'm just easily impressed but i spent like an hour today just testing how long it could keep a conversation thread going. Anyways, just a random thought while i was reminiscing. The model could definitely use some fine-tuning but it's nice to see progress.

My Review

hey storychat team just wanted to drop my thoughts on the app so far and hopefully grab that 7 day gold pass lol. honestly the presentation is super clean and the fact that there’s no ads is a huge win right off the bat

ive been using it for a bit now and the ai is actually really solid... like it doesn't try to roleplay for me which is a massive pet peeve on other sites. response times are fast and the memory holds up way better than i expected. also really cool that you guys let us customize the backgrounds and chat length because that makes a big difference for immersion. and thanks for the warning when currency is low its actually refreshing to see a dev team being upfront about that stuff

i do have a few suggestions to make it even better though:

first off user profiles would be a lifesaver... it gets kind of old having to write a whole paragraph at the start of every chat just to explain who my character is. if we could just save a persona and click it that would be amazing. also we definitely need a "continue" button for when the ai cuts off or has more to say like how cai does it.

another thing is the search feature... it would be sick if the keywords we search for were highlighted in yellow so it’s easier to see why a character popped up. also a bulk delete option for messages would be great since doing it one by one takes forever. oh and if you guys could ever add a way to send images in the chat (for free and unlimited of course lol) it would make explaining vibes or outfits so much easier

anyway the app is great and honestly its been helping me out mentally lately so i really appreciate what you guys are building. keep it up!

Looking for brutally honest C.AI users who want to help shape Storychat

Hey everyone, Jack here, one of the co-founders of Storychat.

I’ve been following the recent C.AI situation pretty closely, and I know a lot of users are disappointed right now. I used C.AI too, so I understand why people feel frustrated when a platform they loved starts feeling different from what made it great in the first place.

That’s one of the reasons I want Storychat to stay close to the community while we build.

We’re still early, and we definitely have a lot to improve. But our goal is simple: listen to real users, communicate openly, and keep improving the product based on what people actually want, not just what we assume they want.

The problem is that our subreddit is still small, so we don’t always get enough detailed feedback from heavy AI chat / roleplay users.

So I wanted to ask:

Do you know anyone on Reddit who is really active, opinionated, and currently looking for a C.AI alternative?

Not influencers. Not promoters. I’m looking for people who actually care about AI chat / roleplay and would tell us honestly what sucks, what feels broken, and what would make Storychat worth using more.

If you know someone like that, feel free to tag them or point me in their direction.

I’d love to talk with them directly, hear their feedback, and keep learning from them as we improve the product.

Also, for people who are willing to give feedback consistently and help us improve the platform, we’re happy to provide a free Gold plan as a small thank-you.

Again, this is not about finding people to blindly praise Storychat.

I’m looking for people who will be honest enough to help us avoid becoming the kind of platform users are trying to leave.

Thanks as always.

Jack

Describe your favorite AI character badly

Describe your favorite AI character as badly as possible.

Examples:

“emotionally unavailable vampire with 200 years of unresolved issues”

“fantasy prince who says he hates drama but creates all of it”

“cute anime girl who somehow turns every scene into a psychological thriller”

“villain who lasted 3 messages before becoming a soft boyfriend”

Can be a Storychat character, C.AI bot, Janitor bot, OC, fandom character, anything.

I’ll try to guess the vibe from the worst descriptions.

Request

I test and provide feedback for several other platforms. I’ve been hearing about this one quite a bit lately. My feedback is a little different than most. I’m retired now. I spent 35 years working for GM and Chrysler as a sales and marketing consultant. I’m an AI enthusiast and spend minimum 4 to 5 hours a day on these platforms. I’d like to have a good look at this one. Is a referral code available? Please DM me.

What should Storychat’s homepage actually feel like?

Hello, everyone! Caelum here, pleased to meet you (:

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about discovery on AI platforms. Not just popularity, but meaningful visibility.

Sometimes it feels like the same characters stay standing beneath the light while newer creators quietly disappear into the background before anyone even gets the chance to find them. We can't have that.. and we've heard your feedback loud and clear.

So I wanted to ask openly:

What should Storychat’s homepage actually feel like?

What makes you want to keep exploring?
What helps you find characters you genuinely connect with?
What makes the browsing experience feel less repetitive?

Would you want things like:

  • personalized recommendations?
  • rotating feed?
  • hidden gem sections? (Some unexpected characters are gold!)
  • better tags and filters?
  • feeds based on your interests or chat history?
  • sections specifically helping newer creators get seen?

And for creators:
What would make your characters feel less invisible?

We also welcome examples of what you like/liked the most from other platforms, not to mimic, but to learn and improve.

As a user myself, I can safely say some of the best characters I’ve ever found felt accidental, like discovering that one song you didn't know you needed, but that you know will stick with you for a long while. I think discovery should feel a little more like that.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and suggestions!

Feature Request: Can we get image sending in chat? 📸

Hey guys, one thing I think is really missing is the option to send images during a chat, kind of like how C.ai does it.

Sometimes it’s just way easier to show an image to explain a scene, an outfit, or a specific vibe rather than typing out a wall of text. It would make the whole experience so much more immersive. The dream would be to have it free and unlimited, unlike other sites that gate it or make it clunky. It would definitely give Storychat a huge leg up!

What do you guys think

A review:)

After an extensive investigation into storychat, I say it’s pretty good. If you have ever tried to use silly tavern, Sc is similar but far less complicated, I have some criticism and some suggestions for y’all.

been using it for about 45 minutes, and if your familiar with ai roleplay it’s pretty good. The action button! Omfg you guys! Thank you! Absolutely beautiful. I’m using it via mobile and the interface is pretty smooth, the save chat / publish feature is pretty cool, but I wish there was a way to move the chat blocks around, it got all mixed up somehow and is out of sequence. Also, one thing that would be good for the publish aspect is to condense the chat into an actual full page story. Possibly after the user arranges them like they want. Workflow like this

Chat-save-proofread-publish like a blog post.

The idea of the chapters is pretty good too, I like the concept.

I haven’t had the chance to look into making a bot of my own, but I’ll be looking into it this weekend, if it’s workable I’ll let my friends who make bots know. We are currently using Poe as a front end for bot hosting.

As far as front end chat is concerned, I like the style. The background of the chat should be able to be toggled off tho, it can be overwhelming for neurodivergent users.

The pricing sees fair, the gold seems a little high. Maybe add another tier? Like keep silver add another teir for gold and change gold to platinum/poweruser. Then only reason I say anything about the price is, I have been using poe for 20$ a month for a million points/ token ranges vary. And grok for 30$. Grok can be a nasty slut as far as roleplay is concerned plus all the extra stuff, so if I was weighing it I would probably choose grok, now if you could create a bot that would allow me to ask grok stuff when I need its computing, then we are talking !!

Anyway! Cool work! Wish it was an Apple app! But I’ll use the browser for now!

There's a problem about my persona selection

I would click on an certain persona I want to use to chat but when I send a reply, it showed a different persona. I retried a few more times but still the same result. (Username is lunakizuki)

Why does AI roleplay get boring so fast now?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been seeing this feedback more often lately:

AI roleplay is not always “bad,” but it gets boring fast.

The replies can be well-written, but after a few messages the pattern becomes obvious. The bot reacts, mirrors your tone, adds some description, asks a soft follow-up, and suddenly the user feels like they are carrying the whole scene.

For Storychat, this is one of the biggest problems I want us to solve.

So I wanted to ask:

What actually makes AI roleplay fun for you?

Is it stronger character personality?

Better long-term memory?

More proactive characters?

More unexpected turns?

Better relationship tracking?

Less generic emotional narration?

More control over writing style?

I’d love to hear what makes a chat feel alive instead of just technically “good.”

we need to admit that AI roleplay gets boring fast now

okay I've been trying to actually sit down and get into a storyline but after like 10 minutes I'm already checked out. idk. Used to spend hours in a single conversation but now I can barely make it past a few messages before I'm scrolling through my phone instead. It's not even that the ai is bad or anything it just kinda loses the spark really quick right? like maybe we just got too used to the novelty wearing off but I dunno. Feels like something's missing that I can't quite put my finger on. Anyone else have that problem or am I just burnt out?

A general Criticism to Storychat without any praise.

1- Horrible looking page of Storychat. Make it more simple and good.

2- Add more rpgs like pokemon and many others they are one of the main reason why character ai is successful in the first place.

3- Give ai more creative freedom and some form of consciousness to actually interact with the user.

4- Heavy focus on making storylines ai more better.

5- Give a option that allows us to Add images(don't use ai generated it's trash) for a roleplay or any rpg.

6- Rpgs and characters that are 18+ rating (not corn) that includes dark fantasy, darker Storylines and much more for actual Adults.

7- Have your time to improve the general ai more and give ai creators more freedom and small rewards when they reach a specific liked percentage or chat percentage.

I’m Jack, one of the founders of Storychat. Please roast the product.

Hey everyone, Jack here, one of the co-founders of Storychat.

I want to get more direct feedback from this subreddit instead of guessing from behind the scenes.

What is the one thing about Storychat that annoys you the most right now?

Could be chat quality, memory, personas, lorebooks, search, character discovery, mobile web, pricing, model choices, bugs, or anything else.

Also, if another platform does something much better than us, please name it. Character.AI, Janitor, Chai, SillyTavern, SpicyChat, CrushOn, whatever.

Be brutally honest. I’d rather hear the painful version than have people quietly leave.

I can’t promise every single thing will be fixed immediately, but I can promise I’ll read every comment and bring the clearest feedback back to the team.

Thanks for being here, especially those of you who have been patient with us while we’re still improving the product.
