r/supertramp

Finally gonna rank all the Supertramp albums, recently just finished their discography

  1. Some Things Never Change 5/10 (not a huge fan though at times I can see the appeal, it comes across a little boring to me)
  2. Indelibly Stamped 7.6/10 (has its moments, in fact I think forever is genuinely amazing, but as a whole it kinda fails to deliver
  3. Slow Motion 8.1/10 (some nice smooth jazz, a good ending to their discography, even if it can drag a little bit at times)
  4. Famous Last Words 8.4/10 (has grown on me over time, although none of my favorite Supertramp songs are on here, it’s raining again is cute)
  5. Brother Where You Bound 8.6/10 (again not too many standout songs here but nothing bad at the same time and it works well as a complete package)
  6. Crisis? What Crisis? 8.7/10 (gets off to a strong start, and falls off a little bit near the end, but still has some great moments)
  7. Free As A Bird 9.1/10 (a really fun album that I just can’t help but love)
  8. Supertramp 9.4/10 (a strong psychedelic debut that almost feels like a forgotten classic, the song home again deserves more love)
  9. Crime of the Century 9.7/10 (so enjoyable all the way through, every song is just as personally effective as the last)
  10. Even In The Quietest Moments 9.8/10 (has a perfect beginning and ending, and everything in the middle while not as good is still enjoyable as all hell, also fools overture is my favorite Supertramp song)
1 Breakfast in America 10/10 (perfect all the way through, no song holds it down in any way, the track-list is more cohesive than any other album they made)

How tf is Supertramp not on rolling stone top 500 albums???

Not even breakfast in America or crime if the century make the cut, but for some reason compilation and live albums do which just makes no sense at all

Breakfast in America - Promotional Menu & Test Press.

When I saw it, I had to get it. A&M Records got super creative in 1979. They designed custom diner-style menus sent exclusively to radio stations, record stores, and press reps to promote the album release. It features the tracklist playfully formatted as diner menu offerings (complete with "breakfast specials" named after the songs). What a unique piece I was not aware of until holding it.
This is why I love records, I’m finding more artwork and extras about my favorite albums.
Truly the Exquisite Platinum platter.

Some Still to be Found in the Wild...

Having learned of this Blu-ray just last week, I was crushed to find it sold out virtually everywhere. Eureka! I found a copy at Rough Trade records, and at a reasonable price, no less. Their site is still listing it as available...

Roger's solo work

I just started diving into some of Roger's solo work. I've listened to Lovers in the Wind, In Jeopardy, and Had a Dream and I really liked them all. I plan to listen to the whole In The Eye of The Storm album soon.

I'm curious to know everyone's thoughts on this stuff; I know In The Eye of the Storm was a fairly successful album commercially. As someone who loves Supertramp and Roger I'm glad he has a few solo albums that I can explore

Downstream is the best Supertramp song 🙈

And it’s so sad because it is literally just a piano… but, damn, it truly is the best of the best. So much love to every other niche song they’ve made—Better Days & The Meaning, I’m looking at you—but again, this is just THE best. THE song of all time.
