Symphonic Metal Introduction Playlist
How do we feel about this as an intro to the genre? Anything big missing or is this a good mix? I tried to put it in a good listening order as well.

Spotify just showed me this playlist of my most listened songs of all time (which is since 2020). I assume everyone has one so I was curious how many/which symphonic metal songs you guys have in your top 10.
Personally I'm not surprised by my number 1, a bit more by Abyss of Time being by far my most listened Epica song, and even more by Perfume of the Timeless being in the top 10 (I must really have listened to that song on repeat a LOT when it came out haha)
Produced by Vikram Shankar (Within Temptation / Pain of Salvation).
Directed and orchestrated by Jorge Salmay.
Here's the Spotify link for anyone curious.
"Metztli" means "Moon" in Nahuatl, an indigenous language family historically known as the language of the Aztec (Mexica) Empire, as well as other pre-Columbian civilizations in American continent.
A mix of symphonic and progressive metal. Anna Fiori herself described it as conceptual album, which will guide you on the journey through your own grief and losses, under the world view of the primary Nahua moon goddess.
Personal note: This album will likely go under the radar because of being entirely made in spanish and nahuatl, but I can't help thinking it's an absolute MASTERPIECE and one of the best albums I've listened to in recent years.
To be clear, I don't have a problem with the ruling, since genre definitions are inherently arbitrary. It was just funny to see these bands singled out.
My background: I'm 44. Always listened to oldies, rock (Metallica, Guns n Roses, etc) and somehow enjoyed country music. Back in like 2008, a friend from the Czech Republic introduced me to Nightwish. I instantly liked it, then discovered Within Temptation (LOVE them), and then began discovering other bands. I only listen to the bands with female singers. Around 2 years ago found Ad Infinitum which honestly took some adjusting at first due to the growling, but I grew to really admire the beauty and abilities of her vocals.
For the last several years, except for oldies (50's and 60's stuff) once in a while, for me it's primarily symphonic goth metal. Bands without a symphony now always sound like they're missing something, obviously. And the lyrics match me. I hate music like country where it's all beer, rainbows, unicorns, life is great, blah blah blah bs. Symphonic goth metal speaks of how difficult life is. It makes me feel like I'm not the only one. I guess that's the reason why I like it so much. Idk.
Which one do you prefer (ft. Piotr Rogucki) or (ft. Dave Pirner)?
It occurred to us there isn’t a flair for memes. So we added one. Have fun!

I'm so tired of seeing people lumping in all the metal (and sometimes not even metal) bands that have women singing as symphonic metal. Female fronted is not a genre and I'm sick and tired of this generalization, it is sexist and diminishes the efforts of all the talented women in this male dominated music genre. Why is okay to not look beyond the sex of the front person of a band when its about women? There is so much more, lets not fixate in that, it is 2026, lets evolve. Thats it, thats my rant.
I'm such a sucker for this stuff. I know a fair amount of it exists in symphonic power metal but I'm pretty open to different styles of symphonic metal with narration and spoken word elements (read: harsh vocals are cool by me).
I'm already aware of bands like Rhapsody (of Fire), Bal-Sagoth, and Nightwish. I'm also open to less conventional narration like what's going on in After Forever's Invisible Circles.
I don't need a full-blown concept album but I guess it doesn't hurt. Any and all recommendations are welcome, thanks in advance!

Hey everyone,
I wanted to share a very special project that has been my life and soul for the past months.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Nightwish, I have created a series of 30 paintings that explore the history, the music, and the profound atmosphere of the band. Nightwish's music has been a massive inspiration for my creative process, and this is my artistic tribute to their legacy.
I am incredibly honored to announce that this independent art project has received official institutional support from the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland! 🇫🇮🎨
Details of the Exhibition:
I am sharing the official invitation/poster with you all here. If any of you happen to be in Bulgaria or traveling through Europe this July, I would be beyond honored to welcome you to the gallery and share these pieces with the community.
Thank you all for keeping the magic alive. Stay magical! ✨🛡️

I think Alexandra is a big Floor Jansen and Nightwish fan. Alexandra also has covers of Shallow and Alone.
