"CANCELLED!" is one of my favorites from the recent album. I'm someone who doesn't truly care about the issues or dramas. I like what I like, and I always disengage from public opinion, so no amount of public outrage in the world can adversely affect my appreciation for her music. It's a win-win scenario for me, and life is much easier when you let the music speak for itself.

A song can have its own character, independent of the artist. In fact, the divisive reception shows Taylor's unfiltered nature, as well as her boldness and versatility as an artist. Besides, it's Reputation-coded, so the angst is no stranger to her.

Kitchie Nadal is my GOAT. And Barbie is one of my favorite OPM artists too.

I watched a reaction to Babylon from someone who describes themselves as a big Swiftie, and I came away confused. This reaction is a perfect example of an unfair take on Taylor's new songs. I'd like to hear whether other people see it the way I do.

It's a reaction to Babylon, a classic Taylor tune, from someone who calls themselves a hardcore Swiftie.

They even gave Joe the credit for the strong writing on folklore and evermore because, in their view, Taylor has lost it at this point. That's wild coming from someone who clearly doesn't understand what she's talking about in this song. That felt like recency bias to me, and it seemed to color how they heard the whole song.

They also mocked the line "Love is ice upon the ladder that you need to climb." I've always thought it was clever. I don't think it's hard to follow Instead they treat it like a joke and use it to take another shot at Taylor. They also seemed to assume the song is about Taylor herself. My reading is that it's about a man so driven by ambition that he pushes away his family and the people who cared about him. Once you hear it that way, the line makes sense.

The thing is that this is one of the least divisive songs on the release, and it's a good showcase of her writing. Criticism is totally fair, but it lands differently when it comes from someone who presents themselves as a longtime fan and misreads the song. Takes like that also tend to get recycled by people who just want to pile on Taylor.

People think this is insulting to her, that her detractors used this to make fun of Taylor, but little did they know the one who named them is actually a massive Swiftie. Like, would they name their scientific discovery after someone they mock if they were to expect acclaim, especially without expecting some flak considering the subject artist they reference? Doesn't make sense, right?

Four newly discovered plant-feeding insect species in Australia have been named after Taylor Swift. The four species have been bestowed names inspired by her as well as several of her albums:
• Swiftiephylus taylorae (taylor) — Taylor Swift
• Swiftiephylus amator (lover) — Lover
• Swiftiephylus intrepidus (fearless) — Fearless
• Swiftiephylus poetorum (poet) — The Tortured Poets Department

I've always hated seeing animals in a taxidermied state, honestly, regardless of the specific case. There's something worth sitting with in the act of taxidermy itself. It turns a once-living, feeling animal into an object meant for viewing, essentially reducing a life to a display piece. Even when it's framed as preservation or education, the process still treats the body as material to be posed and presented, not as something that deserves to rest. That's a strange thing to do to any animal, especially one whose entire life was already defined by being watched and used by people. Which brings me to Mali.

I keep coming back to what we actually owe her now that she's gone.

Taxidermy doesn't preserve dignity, it preserves a specimen. She spent her entire life as a spectacle for human viewing, and that's the tragedy people are upset about in the first place. Keeping her stuffed remains on display doesn't correct that history, it just continues it under a different roof. We're still looking at her, still treating her as an object of curiosity, just now with a museum plaque instead of a zoo enclosure.

If the goal is genuinely educational, her physical body isn't required to teach any of the lessons people say she should teach us. Photos, records, her actual story told honestly, a proper memorial, even a grave people can visit, all of that can immortalize her without keeping her remains on display for foot traffic. We've already moved in that direction with human remains, opting for burial and repatriation over indefinite display, because we've recognized that visibility isn't the same as respect.

Burial isn't disrespect, it's the end of being a spectacle. Taxidermy is the opposite, it keeps her performing a role she never consented to, indefinitely. She was already reduced to a statistic of animal exploitation while she was alive. We don't need her body kept on display after death to prove that happened, or to remember her properly.

If anything, letting her rest is the only way her story actually ends, instead of just changing venues.
