Why do we care if ethel isnt "Niche"?

isnt this.. a good thing? that her amazing art is being shared and loved more? I dont understand why we feel the need to gatekeep her, or any artist for that matter. It doesnt make them more successful, it only diminishes what they can do without the right resources.

What is it about her music that resonates so deeply with you?

Some of us have tattoos, some of you travel very far for her shows and her music makes many of us cry. Why? I’d love to hear your personal takes and stories.

For me, personally, I grew up being a queer kid in a very religious family. Have dealt with SA by male role models, been dependent on men for validation, accepted severe physical and mental abuse and objectification by random strangers just to feel loved and seen, struggled with my own sexuality and what I’ve always felt was ‘deviant’ due to for instance internalized homophobia and shame. All of this culminated in ways that I won’t go into (some of my story is still very personal, and I want to keep it that way). Although I don’t have crosses all over my body to remind me of who I used to be, my body is riddled with other storytelling cuts and bruises.

This got deep and dark very quickly. Sorry.
