Walk me through green manure / cover crops

I really like the idea of growing something on my beds to a) protect against winter and b) enrich the soil.

But I'm stuck on the details.

I live in zone 6. I have beds that are beginning to thin out already. Here are the questions I have.

  1. Do I sow seeds now in the gaps in the bed?

  2. What should I sow?

  3. What do I need to do to look after it?

  4. What are the risks?

  5. Do I chop and drop or let winter take its course?

  6. How to I get the bed ready in Spring?

Thanks for the help.

Rescue plant

I found this plant in the rubbish. I've cut off all the dried/dead leaves, and brown bits, and given it a good water.

Now some leaves are curling up. There's no signs of bugs or disease - any ideas?

International debt

A friend of mine left bank debts in Chile, 10+ years ago. They haven't paid them nor responded to the banks demands.

What's likely to happen in this scenario?

Rasberry, suckers!

I've just discovered some raspberries growing in my allotment. I didn’t plant them and I didn't notice them last year (our first on the plot). They're now about one metre high.

I was thinking about growing a raspberry in pretty much that same place. Have I lucked out? Will these grow and give lots of lovely berries, or do I still need to buy a new plant?

UPDATE! I just had a better look and I can see that the hedge is full of raspberry plants. There are also a few conical fruit buds.

NEW QUESTION. How can I make this the best, most productive raspberry bush in Finland? Should I prune the rest of the hedge back? Should I feed the raspberries?

I'll try and attach a photo.

What to use for mulch?

I don't have ready access to straw or grass, and I don't have lots of compost.

Does anyone have suggestions for a biodegradable mulch I can get easily, or do I have to buy something?
