Just got the new Switch physical copy! Excited to start playing :)
Very beautiful artbook and art card :)
Can't wait to start it soon!!
(Will be my first time playing)
Did I spoil myself too much and ruin my experience?
I've already completed the game but honestly I'm still overthinking about how I spoiled myself before I did. I'm aware I definitely ruined my experience with it but I want some opinions and confirmation from others yk. I saw some of these spoilers before I started the game while some are during the game.
•Knew about how we're playing as Michel & his gender
•The Maid is Giselle (didn't know abt her story etc but it would basically mean that I knew Door 4 is a lie)
•The Witch name is Morgana and how she looks
•Had confirmation that White Hair Girl isn't Michel but it still did make me wonder if she was Morgana or a whole new person
•Saw the scene in Door 8 where Michel is carrying Morgana (knew nothing about how he got there or whether he was able to save Morgana or not)
•Didier will make an appearance in Door 8 (not sure why he's there though)
•Saw the ending picture of Michel and Giselle
Door 2 Review
A couple of days ago, I began my first playthrough of The House in Fata Morgana. Earlier, I wrote a review of Door 1, where I expressed my appreciation for the story and my excitement for the next chapters. I’ve decided to review each door of the game as I complete it.
Door 2: Yukimasa, the Beast. Where do I even begin? It is now pretty clear to me that each door provides something completely different from the previous one. I had a feeling that the VN would focus on aristocratic societies and the dramas/tragedies revolving around them. But now I am convinced of just how versatile this game can be.
The second door revolves largely around identity and interpersonal psychological fragmentation. This door’s premise tells the story of Yukimasa, who claims that he is a violent beast and tries to confront his bestial nature, trapped in a dichotomy between peace and ferocity. The more people treat him as a human being, the more compassionate and human-like he acts, yet whenever he is treated as a beast, he actually begins to act like one, murdering and torturing people around him.
The duality of Yukimasa is where I found the story to be special and compelling. Yet this duality also leaves a lot of unresolved questions. My main concern with the story is that there is no coherent explanation for him becoming such a violent lunatic. It all suddenly begins as he slaughters the people on the ship. I actually miss some background information explaining why. I wish the story could dig deeper into that, or maybe I missed some important clues.
Now, I honestly found it very hard to sympathize with such a disgraceful and unlikable character as Yukimasa. I really felt frustrated by his actions, and I didn’t like that the main character of this story was a remorseless killer. Thinking about it more after completing the door, maybe this disgust and resentment are what the reader is intended to experience. After all, those feelings toward the character are what evoked such strong emotions in me.
What confused me throughout the story was the White-Haired Girl’s appearance. At first, I thought that she was the same girl from Door 1, but her appearance and backstory were completely different from her previous version, and she was also apparently blind. I thought that she had lost her memories or was intentionally hiding them. But after completing the door, I think it is more likely that she will appear in every door, serving as some sort of symbol figure. This is the second time she has been referred to as a “witch.” Her duality centers around her being a very sympathetic and likable person while also bringing misfortune to the house.
After completing both doors, my interest in the story has only risen. I love multi-layered stories that are also interconnected between each other, and I hope to see more of that versatility in the next doors. I also very much appreciate that people shared their opinions and clarified some things for me in the comments on my Door 1 review. Thank you!
RFI is just pain, misery, despair and sadness from start to finish
This game is gotta be rage bait 🥀😔
TLDR: First playthrough. This game is making me go insane and I think im los8ng hair
This is my first play through of the game and so far its pretty good, but it feels like watching that one scene towards the end of Devilman Crybaby (ifykyk).
I was initially hooked by the esthetics and ost but damn ts is like emotional torture. Its gotten so bad that for every good feeling scene I expect to be to hit by a train. Its like the devs are scientists that trained me to preemptively react with despair whenever I feel joy 🥀.
I've made it past the 4th door and decided to go with the truth route. Im at the part where Giselle confessed her love for Michel then he rejected her (???). cuz why the f would he do that. This deadass makes me want to take a long break from the game. I actually had to make this post instantly for the copium. Im also surprised this door went on for this long because I thought it would end like twice now.
🤞🏽 praying for light to be at the end of the tunnel
Jacopo deciding to send a literal fucking BEAST to capture the target that should be captured as safely as possible:
Just finished game ( a little bit of thoughts )
I wanted to write something big, but just deleted what I wrote 3 times lol (it was cringey and still is)
Well I'm not usually a fan of this kind of story and setting (gothic etc.). But this time I gave it a try and wasn't disappointed. Story is indeed very well written and was very emitionally tense. At the beggining you see absolutely separate disconnected stories and don't understand anything. But it all started to make sense and everything turns out to be connected at the end. I honestly didn't expect this kind of story from visual novel (this is my only third experience with VN)
I even kinda regret of playing it because emotions it bringed was too hurting and saddening. Usually they put a lot of fucking warnings in a movies and games that isn't even disturbing. THIS IS the game where they should put a lot of warnings and cautions. My favourite door was 1 and most disturbing( if it's a correct word for it ) was door 6. That is pretty much all I can say without writing a wall of text, just wanted to share a bit of opinion though you can ask me any questions
Door 1 Review
Yesterday, I began my playthrough of The House in Fata Morgana. I had almost no prior knowledge of what this game was about or what it could offer. I knew that it was one of the most iconic VNs, yet as I am relatively new to the genre, I haven’t heard much about it.
Firstly, I want to appreciate the game’s OST—it is wonderful. I can’t fully express how much I love the track 'Ephemera' which depicts Mell and Nellie’s carefree childhood. It just fits that scene so well. Not to mention 'Luciole' with its absolutely majestic and ethereal tones, and the beautiful vocals throughout the soundtrack. I have no idea why the OST is in Portuguese and would gladly appreciate it if someone in the comments could clarify that for me. Initially, I thought that the singing was in Latin.
Now, about the writing. I very much appreciate the details and their later payoffs. The story seems very multilayered, and what initially appears to be filler information later turns out to be crucial to the story. I still think that noticing all the details won’t allow you to predict the ending or the plot twists, which is also part of the beauty of it for me. But because of those details, everything makes sense later. I honestly thought about taking notes while playing through the next doors.
This door gave me actual shivers. I am quite sensitive to emotionally enriched stories, and this ending left a very strong and intense impression on me. I expected the game to be tragic, but not THAT tragic. I felt very bad for the White-Haired Girl while despising Nellie by the end, but I still somehow understand her as a character, as the writing allows me to get a better idea of why she did what she did.
Besides the plot twists and the details that already tell us a lot, there are still many unresolved elements and mysteries. Where is the father? He is present in the narrative, yet the story never shows him or tells us much about him. Who left the text behind the painting? Did someone intentionally want Nellie to discover it? Who is the black-haired Maid? She is the one who guides me through the estate in the present, yet in the flashbacks, she looks just the same as she does now.
Having finished the first door, I am very excited to explore the story further. I can’t wait to see what the other doors can offer me. The first door really got me hooked, and I hope I can share my thoughts on the next doors as I finish them.
reading for the first time and im glad i noticed this even if i have no idea what it could mean right now
theres quite a lot of it i hope i didnt miss much other than what was there now im worried that i have to check the logs more
Talk about dodging all the curses going around.
Assento Dele and Door 4
Assento Dele is a masterpiece on its own and reinforces door 7 most obviously.
But the "don't touch me" I believe serves as a basis of inspiration for Morgana to spin the fake 4th door and precisely because Imeon left without revealing she was Noémi (a girl) Michel was not dispirited and able recognise the fakes in door 4 perhaps because his soul thought the notion of "not touching" belonged to a man who was not him. I guess that makes Morgana's plan of making him the WHG even stronger as he had to avoid Noémi. I don't really know what implications it has behind Michel's success or failure at not believing the 4th door.
Also Noémi saying Michel would find someone like Giselle was beautiful.
I found door 2 a big step up from door 1. Is that an unpopular opinion?
I found door 1 pretty dull up until the ending. I only stuck with it all the way because I hoped there are better things waiting later down the line (and was right). And that ending, while it presented us with a really good twist, seems to give too much gravitas to the events that transpired, relative to their actual weight. I mean, all that actually happened was Nellie cutting off the white haired girl's hair. She didn't scalp her, didn't mutilate her face, didn't kill her, she literally just cut off her hair, and used it to impersonate her. And even broke her cover before raping Mell by deception. Yet, the story acts like we've just watched the finale of Hamlet.
Door 2, on the other hand, had started strong, and caught my attention right away. The ending twist is brilliant. I loved how the story led us to believe it was playing the old beauty and the beast tropes straight, only to pull the rug out from under our feet.
Overall, for me, it's door 2 >>> door 1 all the way, but is that an unpopular opinion on this sub? A lot of folks around here seem to think door 2 had a drop in quality.
The House in Fata Morgana - Mudae
For those who have ever heard of or played the Mudae Gacha game on Discord, I went ahead and ordered the characters from most popular to least popular (Morgana being the most, while Barnier being the least)
[Main game ending and Requiem spoilers] Would him telling the truth really had made a difference?
If Jacopo had told Morgana who he really was, would that really have assuaged her anger and stopped the curse from ever happening?
Yes, he could have revealed to her that he isn't the man who held her captive and used her as a blood bag in the past. Instead, he's the person who showed her the most kindness she had ever experienced in her short life, the one she had the closest relationship with... who then had her kidnapped (and maimed) held her captive to use her as a blood bag right fucking now.
No, he's not the old enemy. He's a traitor, who had done onto her exactly as that old enemy did.
Granted, after learning his perspective in the future, Morgana was persuaded to end the curse, but that was literally centuries later. If Jacopo manned up back when these events were taking place and actually confessed - to the bleeding, maimed, furious, delirious Morgana - would that really have made her feel better about any of this, or would she hate him even more? Would this betrayal only add fuel to the fire of her curse?
How do powers in fatamoru work?
How the fuck does everything in the novel happens?
Morgana can create places that exist above time and space,Michel can literally resurrect himself,Giselle is immortal, and that's without mentioning the reincarnation stuff.I have played base game a long time ago,and I still haven't finished RFI sub episodes or reincarnation or Erasmus yet,but iirc that stuff never gets addressed in the novel.
Has anyone really talked about the similarities between Pauline and Morgana?
I feel like they're characters that people don't put side by side too often. They never actually met in their first lives (please correct me if I'm wrong), but comparing the two of them is super interesting imo.
While Morgana’s identity as a saint was built on lies, she completely devotes herself to that identity. She believes in God with her entire being, and spurns the idea of being a normal girl.
In contrast, Pauline is a full-fledged member of the convent, despite not actually wanting to be. Despite wanting nothing more than to be an ordinary girl, she is thrust into the role of “Saintess”—a role that Morgana herself says should be her own.
Pauline is devoted to God in name only, but finds herself elevated within the church as the benevolent Saintess. Morgana is devoted to God in both body and soul, and is constantly referred to as an ordinary girl by all of her peers (Jacopo, Maria, Mell initially).
Both of them are attached to mentally unstable men that hurt them. Pauline accepts Yukimasa in his entirety, but Morgana spurns Jacopo for his misdeeds. Pauline (the nun) is reflective of God's nurturing and forgiving side. Morgana (the saint) is more representative of God's righteous judgement.
This was part of an analysis I'm drafting, and I thought it was interesting enough to share by itself.
[Door 7 and 8 spoilers] If you were Michel, would you do it?
Curse your family, I mean.
Me? I'd do it without a moment of hesitation, at least when it comes to Michel's father who flat out tried to have him murdered, and the sadist sister in law who abused him for months. I'd like to think I'd spare the brothers who did save his life after all, and the mother who told them to do it, and was mentally ill after all, but I can't be sure.
If I were him, after years of exile, with my own brothers not even having the decency to return my letters, and my mom doing so only to keep making it clear that she considers me cursed, with all the time in the world to erode all semblance of trust I had left for them, with Morgana's voice to stoke the fires and add to the doubts... maybe I'd be swayed to curse them all.
The Seventh Lair
THIS WAS NOWHERE NEAR COMEDIC
I JUST FINISHED IT AND I CAN’T STOP CRYING OMG
I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST SOME KIND OF A BACKSTAGE EPISODE AND IT’S JUST A SHORT STORY BUT OH GOD THIS BROUGHT UNBELIEVABLE TEARS TO ME..
it also takes me back, if i do remember in base game it was mentioned that if michel had stayed more in the mansion, alone. he would have cursed the souls of his family.. Giselle’s quite LITERALLY the light of Michel’s life.
reading doors 5-8 happily ever ~after~ sub episode and ghost of an excuse short stories and now the seventh lair.. omg i don’t think any fictional relationship could come close in terms of how they impacted me (or the times they made cry).. i really can’t wait to finish the erasmus with it’s short stories and finally read reincarnation and at the same time i don’t want to ):
PLEASE EVERYONE GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE SEVENTH LAIR!!
