Recently started re-watching…

So I originally watched this is us during Covid and I remember it was emotional and I had to take breaks after certain episodes etc. etc.

I just started rewatching (I am on season 3) and BRUH - I have cried during pretty much every episode… I remember it being emotional but I do not remember it being THIS emotional 🥹

Seeing things through older eyes is crazy as well! There were always certain topics that touched me personally and they still do but in a different way now.. it’s so interesting to experience

Has anyone else experienced the same thing??

Then she caved let you in and you invite some other guy then just disregards the football game that she expressed she cares deeply about.

Shows like this is us

I need some recs for shows like this is us..
With deep character development, that type of of cinematography, story line and how they jump from one time line to another..! And a bit devastating I feel like it was the best show I’ve ever watched and now I’m unable to find something like that

I do genuinely feel for Kate

Can you imagine if your immediate family looked like Mandy Moore, Milo Ventiniglia, Sterling K Brown and Justin Hartley? Each was unusually talented or special in some way. An incredible singer, a talented athlete, a literal movie star, a hero, a brilliant mind. She had many great qualities like compassion, humor, fortitude and loyalty but would always be out-shown. It would give me a massive chip on my shoulder too.

What makes a family

Just finished S5 episode where Toby has lost his job and unloads on Kevin over the sushi dinner for being condescending with his generosity about money since they’re all family. And Toby says “family” is their two nuclear families, not the extended family. And Kate sits silently and later Kevin accepts this definition in his convo with Madison.

I wish Kate or Kevin had pushed back. There are lots of big extended families who think of themselves the way Kevin described. This show is so good about all the different ways family is made through adoption, reconciliation (with Nicky), remarriage, even low/no contact (with Jack’s and Rebecca’s parents). But somehow raising cousins together in the same city is off limits?

I think they could have told the male-breadwinner emotional wounds story fine without this additional bit.

I finally get it lol

I love how this is us just shows the toxic ways mental illness reflects out onto the world without naming it. It then allows us to slowly unravel who we want based on what we see in our lives. It's very powerful media.

It also shows how important it needs to be to cope with the loss of parents. I love how clearly it sees that. What a weight to carry lmao

now may the fighting continue

NICKY 😭😭😭 this scene hurt my heart real bad

this show has so so many scenes and moments that make me cry like a baby, Kleenex is really benefitting from me watching this series right now.

YOU GUYS. when Nicky put in all that time and effort making those snowglobes for Kevin's babies, packaging them so carefully, asking Cassidy to help wrap the box up so nicely, only for the globes to be destroyed at the airport 😭 I just want to jump into my tv before it happens and hug him and tell him it's going to be okay, they can just ship them and it'll be a really nice surprise in a couple days 😭 he loves those babies so much already and just wanted them to have something to remember him by 💔 he's such a sweet soul, I just can't

Me as a mom 😂

This might be silly but it’s one of my favorite scenes because it makes me laugh, and I am 100% this type of person 😂

Epic season finale (S4)

Wow, what an epic fight between Kevin and Randall. I really have come to despise Randall; he’s SO arrogant and self-absorbed. Sterling K. Brown is amazing for playing a character who I found so lovable in S1 who I am just horrified by now.

This might be the best show about dysfunctional families I’ve ever seen.

This season finale was so good! (Except the tenuous OB connection to Madison was meh.)

First time watching! I love it so far but Kevin..

For context I’m on season 1 episode 13 so very early in the series. Please let me know if I’m totally wrong or just need to wait it out; I’d be happy to change my mind.

I just find his romantic subplots so..boring? I find his career fascinating and love the pivot into theater. But his love life is just so weird to me. It starts off with him as a playboy, which makes sense he’s a hot actor so I didn’t think about it. His co star in the play that he falls for, also makes total sense. From then on, the story loses me, his bit with the writer-the actress coming back-putting his foot in his mouth about said writer and being overheard, i started getting a little annoyed by the repetitiveness. His career is obviously super serious but fuck dude you’re in a room with two women for 6 months and you immediately fall for both of them back to back?
He keeps making such bizarre decisions and I’ve lost a lot of respect for the character. He’s almost forty yet he has the emotional intelligence of a middle schooler. I just can’t help but compare him to his siblings and he just doesn’t interest me as much. He makes every choice with his dick meanwhile Randall is teaching his bio father how to drive and Kate is fighting demons at fat camp.
I don’t know I’m probably being harsh but his character just gives me the ick.
If I’m crazy that’s fine too! Like I said I’m only 3/4 thru the first season and with a show like this he can surely change or grow on me.

Chris Sullivan (Toby) new show just got picked up to series at ABC.

It's called r/TheRookieNorthSeries and will premiere in January 2027. I'm excited to have him back on screen!

The Toby Problem

He was written as the romcom lead who won't let the main character get in her own way and it just did not work for a lot of people.

First Time Watcher, Pt 7....Season 6 Thoughts

Wow, what a journey. I debated just doing a series wrap up instead of season 6 on its own but I fifnt think it would do it justice. I will give my overall thoughts on another post. So specifically season 6...

NICKY- how does anyone like this man?

MALIK and DEJA - first time...excruciatingly awkward to watch. Deja saying she isnt Randalls daughter, honestly, glad shes getting to be more of a teenager but they need to put their foot down. They cannot tiptoe around her and treat her differently. Shes disrespectful.Randall treats Malik and deja like adults and they're kids.

MADISON - I like her but saying she wanted to keep the twins in LA for Thanksgiving to hang with her new boyfriend...yeah no. She can stay but the kids should go with Kevin to be with his family especially knowing how important is to them and the state his mom is in. And Kate supporting it? What??? To get back with what happened with Sophie. Thats so selfish. And didnt even give the man a chance to speak.

BETH - wouldn't have made it in the dance world. I am sure after hearing her conversation with Vincent and saying he took it away from her. It would've chewed her up and spit her out. Thats not me saying its right, but it is the reality. He doesnt have a strong enough backbone for that world.

TOBY - oof well that was a spiral. I think there's nothing wrong with changing but the way he has handled and communicated everything....terrible. He clearly has a lot of resentment for who he was and what Kate wants. Him saying the only option for them to stay a family is for them to move to San Francisco is honestly so selfish and tone deaf. He heard nothing at all. "Im sorry Jack Pearson died and you had to marry me instead of him" WOW

Why don't any of them seem to have friends outside the family and eho they dats/sleep with?

PACING - got weird. Everything was moving slowly but well paced, then we sped ran Jack (baby) getting hurt in the park to divorce to new marriage

KEVIN AND SOPHIE - ok that made me tear up. Here for it. The family clapping was weird af though.

MIGUEL - i didnt realize that this was the first time for a Miguel centric episode. I hate that he used not seeing his kids as an example of how much he loves Rebecca. I know he was saying he felt like she was the only thing right but also...my guy.. go see your kids. I dont like that Kevin was the one to go to his son. Miguel fight as hard for them as you do for rebecca.

Whats with the alzheimers obsession on this station? First greys and now this!

Kate being the underdog always

Why didnt they let Kate come up with the idea about their mom's care. She always jus follows what her brothers say and i thought after being given the chance to showcase her independence they still let Kevin have a better solution for the problem.

Season 6 Episode 15 - Miguel

I finished This Is Us last night and I just have to say that throughout a show that has so many sad episodes, “Miguel” was surprisingly one of episodes that hit me the hardest. I never realized how much I had grown to love Miguel until this episode 🥺 such an underrated character.

I really feel like they had at least another season left in them to dive so much more into Rebecca's life after Jack, reconnecting with Miguel, and their early relationship,. As much as I loved Rebecca and Jack, what Rebecca and Miguel had was beautiful. I think Miguel said it beautifully. Something like "[they] had a void in their hearts that they both filled for each other; Jack for Rebecca and Miguel's kids for Miguel".

I also found teenage/young adult Kate fascinating, tragic, and realistic, so seeing her living at home, working at the diner, while navigating the new Miguel and Rebecca dynamic would've made for an interesting plot. More of Beth and Randall's early relationship and Randall's impact would've been cute.

I know Dan said his vision for the show was to have six seasons, but he really did us dirty by counting the covid season toward that lol

I honestly just miss this show so much and wish we had more episodes!!
