Why can’t I play this army right?

I’ve gotten into this game for a while now, and I still can’t seem to wrap my head around all the intricacies of combat. Why do my giant necrosphinxes get like 2 combat res points which a block of infantry will get like 12 for just existing? Can’t seem to find a collective list of all modifiers for combat and the rule book just has a small list with the addition of “and more that apply” cause the writers are too incompetent to actually list these. Like over kill isn’t even listed in it? I need some serious help cause fighting these chaos warriors feels like there’s nothing I can do against them when my warriors can’t heal fast enough to take the damage and I lose my what feels like 30 combat res pts and lose that many more warriors and I can’t deal damage cause every skeleton just has a wet pool noodle to swing with.

Crumble Beginnings- Part 18

Painted up the Pyramid Golem by Archvillain Games as a nice palate cleanser, could proxy it as a necrosphinx, cask of souls or baggage train I guess 😂 very satisfying model to paint

Hello r/tombkings,

Hope your bones remain strong and full of Calcium. Having played a few games and learning the ropes at 1000 points I am making my way towards my first 2000 point game of TOW. I drafted the above list with models I currently own or intend to own (still need 2 x more boxes of Tomb Guard). I went rather infantry heavy on this list as I think fielding a truck load of mummies and skeletons feels pretty on brand for Tomb Kings. I'll break down some of choices here:

- High Priest on foot will be hiding behind these walls of Infantry and supporting with Arise as well as all of the Necromancy / Lore of Nekahara spells to debuff targets. Meanwhile the Mortuary Priest is hiding in the Skeleton Horse Archer bunker doing similar and utilizing the extra mobility to go patch up units that need some extra Arise while still maintaining range/sightlines for the Archers.

- Royal Hearld in my opinion is fairly necessary in this list. He's stationed next to the Tomb King in the Tomb Guard block with the Halberds to turn that unit into a blender with the combo of MWBD and his Icon of the Sacred Eye. With all the buffs plus Halberds they are WS 6 and STR 5 in combat.

- Big blob of Skeleton Warriors with Banner of the Desert Wind to go tar pit an opponent's block of guys I don't want my stronger units tied up by. The Banner gives me some extra movement to go rush down and get up in their face quicker. With the Mortuary Priest on Horse running around I can also help buff/Arise models to create an endless combat if I dedicate enough resources towards it.

- Speaking of aggressive units, Necropolis Knights will be playing the flanks and looking for a juicy charge into an opponents side flank. I also chose these guys because they're frankly super sick looking.

- Second group of Tomb Guard to watch my flanks / shielding my back lines to protect my Screaming Skull Catapults

- Two Catapults to try and trigger Panic tests so I can pick and choose my fights a bit more or pin/cause units to flee that I don't want to fight that turn. Another "I just think they're neat" choice.

Anyways, would love some thoughts from the community. I appreciate any help. Really loving the game coming from AoS and how much more player expression there is in list building!

From beneath the sands

Quick rule clarification. Ambushers held in reserve can be summoned with from beneath the sands during the command sub phase.

Ambushers are rolled during the start of turn sub phase.

So does this mean you have to roll every turn (beginning round 2) during the start of turn sub phase. If you succeed they have to be placed as reserve.
If you fail, you roll another time during the command sub phase for beneath the sands. And only then they will be summoned by the rules for from beneath the sands?

And how about turn 1. Ambushers start from turn 2. but from beneath the sands doesnt state any turns. So would you roll for it during command phase of turn one?

Painting up a duel-wielding Tomb King.

As much as I like the old metal 6th Ed Tomb King minis, these new plastic minis are much easier to paint, the detail is much deeper and defined.

Since GW didn't give us Hierotitans, I decided to summon my own for my baggage train

Made using the new Liche Priests and leftovers from the new Monarch/Herald kit, Tomb Guard, Necrosphinx, and Bone Dragon

Optimal Necropolis Knights Configuration?

Salutations my fellow Dynasts, I have recently assembled my Necro Knights and played them in a couple games.

The first game didnt go too well, they got caught by boar boys and then a big squigg. Did not fair well, so next game against HE (pictured) I went the extra mile and took chariots to screen them so they dont get caught by enemy cavalry or anything big and dangerous like that phoenix. I also took a liche priest with a horsemen unit to give them reserve move and make them faster. They performed way better this time, but they spent a lot of time just positioning and it felt like I committed a lot to make them work.

How do you tend to run yours? Is there a more optimal way to run them and increase the odds of them working out? I thought maybe banner of Rakaph could help with positioning quicker, wish I could give them the reserve move banner but idk I thought I would ask here to get some input. Thanks in advance.

Crumble Beginnings - Part 17

Printed a mixture of archers from Undying Dynasties set and Crab Miniatures Pharoah’s Legacy set to make it a bit less repetitive to paint 20 models 😅 still have trouble with blocks of units

From Vampire Counts to Tomb Kings

I started the hobby when I was a kid and collected a lot as I always loved monsters and especially undead. But I've focused on vampire counts and only got the catapult from the tomb king back then.

Then they got rereleased with the Old World and I took the Necrosphinx and Tomb Guards as I found them dope. But I stayed focused on converting my vampires.

And then I had this strange fever, going to specific markets and online... And I recovered all this all together ^^. I'll stop now and try to organise but it was definitely a bargain.

I'm very happy to join the tomb king army. I even have the old cheeky Nagash sculpt ^^

Finished 6th Ed Tomb King mini.

Here is my redone 6th Ed Tomb King mini. Not really happy with how the crest behind his head turned out but I'm tired of dealing with it so I'm calling it done.

Prince Apophas

Recently picked up this fella for a bit of a bargain, cleaned him up to paint him myself - just wondering if people use or run him and how best to utilise and play him, anything he works particularly well with, or what to target with in regards to his abilities etc?

Special Units

Hwy fellow Kings of the tombs.

Im curious how you make use of your special units contingent when not playing mortuary cult with extra Necrosphinx and bow shabtis.

Besides scorpions, which are the obvious choice there is not much stuff that’s convincing.

Personally Im a huge fan of necropolis knights but I never take more than four of them.

Do you even end up filling the special slot?

Look for Bone Giant legs STL

Hey gang, anyone know of a good stl for legs for a Bone Giant that uses the Necrosphinx upper body? Like this one that was a third party caster, but for a 3D printer.

A few flavour pieces to add to the army, don’t think any of it will be proxied for play but maybe used as base fillers or terrain pieces.

The sacred band of carthage rises again from their graves (tomb guard)

Just finished my tomb guard for my carthage inspired tomb kings army. This unit was by far my most anticipated project for this army and I'm glad they came out this way
