KLIPPBOK water leak sensor teardown (to remove the buzzer)

Inside KLIPPBOK (IKEA's Matter-over-Thread water leak sensor)

I bought my first KLIPPBOK a couple of months ago, and it worked well under the kitchen sink. I thought of buying another one for the bedroom, but I needed it to be permanently quiet. It looks like a way to mute this sensor may become widely available at some point (https://www.reddit.com/r/tradfri/comments/1txryu6/silent_mode_in_klippbok_water_leak_sensor/), but until then I've decided to silence KLIPPBOK's buzzer with a bit of 'surgery' ✂️

TLDR: the sensor is sealed for waterproofing, so it's impossible to open without causing damage. Two plastic parts are thermally bonded, so they're pretty hard to pull apart. I broke my utility knife's blade while trying to do this.

https://preview.redd.it/aj5syt563bbh1.jpg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=21cad9e13f576a6d914b8def76dd715847c3e763

The result was far from aesthetically pleasing:

https://preview.redd.it/fo438s563bbh1.jpg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=50a4de319fdcdbc70e24eac9c584dff1af47ff9d

You may have better luck if you use a hot blade to melt the plastic at the edge, but I haven't tried this.

Here is what KLIPPBOK has inside:

https://preview.redd.it/s0uur2aw3bbh1.jpg?width=2251&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=52e8e1bc3384a5378d514b492042d27ab8a24c97

https://preview.redd.it/3xef95h93bbh1.jpg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0fbe090b9b33a866f2c7fe4c2f02b7ba9aaa5807

I tried to desolder the buzzer but pulled it a bit too hard. It came off and took three of its four contact pads with it, so putting it back would be impractical. The sensor is cheap, so it's not a big deal.

https://preview.redd.it/d1xgkvo74bbh1.jpg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e2e820e010e4fb87e606135611ae0d7947d04ebb

The device was still alive after the 'surgery'. I was able to onboard the sensor onto my Thread network, and it detected water as designed:

https://preview.redd.it/hkjzjill4bbh1.jpg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=09fa56c290cf764801a9368c4e48981b881f4bcb

https://preview.redd.it/75jyzyll4bbh1.jpg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e9bef2e5a8d00fae2b965001b311f7769a167448

https://preview.redd.it/xtsp9kll4bbh1.jpg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3d4a230caa1910dcdeee42107186a69446179ab3

Of course, I lost the waterproofing around the top edge of the sensor, so it could no longer be fully submerged.

https://preview.redd.it/ipta2nzm5bbh1.jpg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=12575e2c3e83a18223f43e79137d0cf58c5becf4

The 'surgery' is obviously not a perfect solution, but it's good enough for my case. I am aiming to detect moisture around the window sill, where I don't expect massive floods. I don't want the sensor to disrupt my sleep, but getting scheduled HA notifications should help me fight mould on the curtains.

With a bit of glue and black tape around the edge, I've got a permanently muted KLIPPBOK that will hopefully do its job!

https://preview.redd.it/hrne4qap5bbh1.jpg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a0f0b5b8a9405596de78822894657c6c6ea42da7

https://preview.redd.it/37rzzqap5bbh1.jpg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7eda04dcae6624b53205d8662d79573b77a35f94

My advice: don't disassemble this device until you've explored the EnableDisableAlarm option. By the time you read this, there may be more info on silencing KLIPPBOK programmatically.

Fun fact: the body of KLIPPBOK is bulkier than the components inside it. It looks as if they were planning to make the sensor thinner but changed their mind after the board was made. It could be just aesthetics. My other wild guess is that they wanted the sensor to float in water, so they increased the amount of air it holds. What else could explain this design decision?

Two TRADFRI drivers, two BILRESA remotes?

Does anyone know how to pair multiple BILRESA to the same device?

I'm trying to have two remotes both control two TRADFRI drivers in my kitchen. When I try to pair both remotes, only the most recently paired works. I tried the old method of linking the remotes together, but it does not seem to work with BILRESA.

Any suggestions? Thank!

ikea released a new update for the hub.

1st of July 2026
DIRIGERA Hub version 2.975.2
We’ve been working hard to keep DIRIGERA Hub for smart products in top condition, so your smart home can run as smoothly as ever! In this release, we have:
This release brings stability improvements to Matter and Thread. We’ve reduced mDNS network noise, upgraded Matter Controller to version 1.4.2, and added several enhancements to improve overall performance, making your smart home more reliable and responsive.

feel free to add bugs in the comments that arent fixed for you in the replies or new introduced bugs.
things still not fixed.

- battery status of bilresa dual button remotes. (remotes latest firmware seems to be 1.9.15)
- sleepy lights scenes not going to lowest value set but goes to 3% and then just turns the lichts of. (was 5% before the update)
- kajplats rgb setting it to red still makes the light more pink then red

Kajplats Pairing Kit

Hello

Can the GU10 bulbs from the Kajplats kit be added to the IKEA app in addition to the remote control?

And how do you change the colors using the included remote control?

Bilresa kajplats issue

We have the Kajplats bulbs with Bilresa dual button switches. Upon installment, the native controls were really intuitive and nice to use. Unfortunately, after getting an apple HomePod mini as a smart home hub, we realized that the native controls were lost. I speculate that this is because the direct connection between Bilresa and Kajplats disappears when connecting both to apple HomeKit.

As far as I can tell from reading trough some forums, a possible solution is to add a dirigera hub to my system. This seems unreasonable, and I would like to see if there are any other options before getting the dirigera.

My question is therefore:

Is there any way to get native controls when only using HomeKit?

Home Smart App - feature requests, design, contribution?

Hi all,

I have a few things I want in the IKEA home smart apps.
Is there somewhere we can ask, or somewhere we can help?

IKEA says their Home Smart app may some day be Open Sourced. I'm a software developer, I might have a look or contribute. But sadly it's not yet open sourced, and I don't think it will anytime soon.

The things I would like are for quick access or saving space: with 10 rooms, 45 lights and some other stuff, I don't want to scroll so much.

  1. if any room has an icon, there's the icon on a "line" and the name under it. Could they be on the same "line" to waste less space?

  2. a quick dashboards with only icons and no names would be cool

  3. I have MYGGBETT, could we have an icon to see if the door is open or closed? You should be able to say "I want a shortcut" or not (I would show all of them)

  4. Same for MYGGSPRAY: is there movement or not? (I would hide all of them)

  5. Could we hide or show any measure from TIMMERFLOTTE or ALPSTUGA? I'm really mostly interested in temperature, not humidity

  6. easy exporting/importing config, or just fixing the BILRESA remotes (3 of them were marked disconnected and they actually had no problem but I had to reinstall them)

  7. when listing all products, could be search by name, room, connected status, sort by names, rooms, last install/modification date, and status

  8. when listing products or scenes for configuration, search by name, room, order by named and last modified/installed

  9. add a dashboard of all disconnected products so I can fix them fast.

Thanks to you all and if anyone can get me in touch with the actual developers at IKEA (or their managers) I would first thank them all then kindly ask for all this, donating what time and skill I could.

Cheers,

Hub upgrade questions with legacy Tradfri bulbs & switches

I have and use the tradfri product line for lights and switches, and I know Ikea has changed their product line to use the DIRIGERA hub and new models of bulbs and devices. Fortunately using the ikea bulbs have increased the "smart" acceptance factor with my family that we now have Echos, and starting on appliances (Samsung smartthings)

Two big questions I have.

    • since i still have the existing tradfri equipment in the system, does the Dirigera hub run the older stuff too in addition to the new equipment, or do i need to do a wholesale change of bulbs and switches if upgrade or add the newer ikea stuff?
    • with my family being more accepting of this kind of equipment, does the hub accept other non ikea smart devices in addition to its own, or would there be a better hub choice to support more devices, if i stay with ikea lighting devices, but looking to add things ikea doesnt make (appliances, plumbing, security system)

Can't pair new BADRING sensors with DIRIGERA

Upgraded to DIRIGERA from Tradfri last year. I have like 10 lights and 6 BADRING sensors.

Decided to add 3 more of BADRING, but any of them don't want to register.

IKEA support replied: purchase a new Hub if you’re having issues with it.

DIRIGERA has latest firmware.

Is there any way to find out that sensors are bad or DIRIGERA? Before jumping to replace everything to make it work?

To the IKEA Home Smart team: Add Electrical Power Measurement cluster (0x0090 for estimated power draw to your matter products

You already have made test for other certifications so you guys know at what brightness how much power in w it draws. Expose it in the matter clusters so we can estimate how much energy our devices draw!

And then use the MeasurementAccuracyStruct to flag it as an estimate.

I would think you would have some spare RAM in the microcontrollers in the products to offer this!

P.S:
Hoppas ni implementerar detta och keep up the good work! Kanske sätta det på någon strudent? (Är själv det inom datateknik)

Kajplats slow to return to adaptive

I have a mix of tradfri zigbee bulbs and now some new Kajplats white spectrum matter/thread bulbs all running through the Dirigera.

When I turn on the tradfri bulbs with a remote, they immediately snap to the adaptive setting for the current time (ie cool and bright during the day).

However for the KAJPLATS bulbs, if I turn them on during the day, it will still be dim and warm from when I used them last night, and then over a minute or two it will slowly raise the brightness to match the current setting, and then finally after a bit it will snap to the current cool temp. Why are the Kajplats so delayed in transitioning after turned on with a remote? Is it intentional or a bug? I prefer the tradfri behavior.

Weird Bilresa pairing behaviour with Apple Home

I've had varying success with pairing the Thread stuff. My setup:

>TBRs - Apple TV 4K
HomePod Mini
Dirigera
Nanoleaf Shapes
Home Assistant OpenThread

Got an extensive Thread network. It's unified. Most Matter. Some HomeKit native.

Home network is native IPv6 with 3 different /56 routable prefixes

Various VLANs. The TBRs are all on VLAN0 with my home network. That VLAN has /60s from two of my IPv6 ranges to delegate. The Thread network has a /64 from one of them. NAT64 is turned off on the Dirigera. Everything routes properly.

Some of the IKEA stuff pairs instantly when I try to pair it via Apple directly. Some has been very ... reluctant, though. In particular I got a Bilresa recently that Just Would Not Pair.

iPhone pairing seems to have 3 stages: Connecting, Setting Up, Adding to Home

Ordinarily attempting to pair MOST Ikea stuff with Apple Home just works.

But this Bilresa just would not. At all. Stuck on "Connecting" until it timed out.

Except one time I saw it skip straight to "Setting up", and then timed out, and then I realised I had my VPN on.

Lots of experimenting later and I determined there was Something Weird™ going on with IPv6

If I put the phone in a different IP multicast regime to the ones that the TBRs are on, it would get as far as "Setting up" before timing out. If the phone could see the TBRs via mDNS, it timed out on "Connecting".

Here's what I think was happening. The phone tries to do the initial handshake and notices the TBRs and says, "Hi guys, got a newbie for you".

And for some reason the TBRs can't handshake with the Bilresa.

But if it CAN'T see the TBRs, it uses its own Thread radio, but then notices that there's a Thread network already in Home and for some reason the Bilresa won't join it.

Putting the phone on my backup VLAN, which can still route to the TBRs but can't see them gia multicast got it as far as "connecting".

Then I swiped down to get "control centre", and toggled wifi on and off.

The phone joined the main VLAN

It saw the TBRs

It handed the Bilresa, which it had presumably given a link local address to, to them.

The Bilresa joined the Thread network

"Adding to Home" "Done"

So here's my hypothesis: SOME Ikea Thread firmware will basically ignore IPv6 announcements to reconfigure its IP address IF and only if it already has a routable V6, because it figures it's already on the Thread network.

This is fine if the IPv6 prefix of the Thread network never changes (mine does, one of my v6s is dynamic, and I occasionally have to power cycle some of the IKEA stuff), or if NAT64 is being deployed.

But if the Thread network is a routable v6 but happens to have a different prefix to your routable LAN v6, then it just won't pair.

This is conjecture, but I feel like it makes sense and could explain a lot of the problems some of us have been seeing.

My dirigera and HomeKit aren’t friends anymore :/

had my dirigera since the first year they came out. it’s updated. i use Siri via HomePod to run most actions including scenes.

Ever since I added 3 kajplats, nothing works well. my scenes don’t execute properly (2/3 lights will come on at correct brightness, one will not be correct brightness, or some other bizarre mix up), the phrases I used before (‘hey siri, bathroom lights 100%) don’t work ‘I couldn’t find that in your home’ hey siri, bathroom lights turn to 100% brightness, and it works. No matter how many times I try to turn on my laundry lights, it never works properly. One bulb doesn’t respond, the other doesn’t go to requested brightness, the light strip always does what it should.

Everything worked nearly flawlessly before I added the kajplats and enabled matter.

The lights are all near HomePod minis, and it’s not just the kajplats that dont do what I ask (its a combination of kajplats, tradfri, stoftmoln and jetstrom- but not all my tradfri 🙄)

Ikea app control works fine, but I’m not about to put my laundry basket down to pull out my phone to turn on the lights in my laundry room.

any suggestions?

Does IKEA Home app support graphical plotting for TIMMERFLOTTE sensors?

This is a feature I would like to have (see how the temperature evolves in the sensors over time). I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what does the IKEA Home app supports in this case?

Finally… IKEA & Eve Matter working with Matter update to HA!!!

Over the last 48 hours I’ve finally managed to get my thread fabric to behave and get my collection of IKEA matter devices (yes, I bought a lot when they came out and yes, I was very annoyed) and a very temperamental Eve Weather to consistently connect. I’ve been using HA for about a year and rebuilt my entire smart home using it so this has been a real first world annoyance.

With the new matter server update in HA to be able to view the thread topology there was fundamentally nothing wrong with the setup but my connections were all poor and the disconnected nodes wouldn’t update. I run my thread network on 3 eeros with good coverage in a small house so it’s been irritating that the performance has been so disappointing.

Using the settings in the matter server, I set the network credentials, removed the buggy devices and cleared connections to dashboards and automations… and started the re-adding process. I had tried this previously but it just didn’t work on the old server.

Not only did the devices all connect first time, connect to an appropriate parent and… work but where the Ikea firmware had refused to update or struggled, it just updated instantly. The Eve weather (which is a great piece of kit when it works) is also stable for the first time since I’ve owned it.

Previously I’d also had to disconnect an alexa I have with a thread router built in but it just ignores it now and connects to the right fabric every time. Even with the right credentials set in the previous functionality it was just buggy and inconsistent.

I know a lot of people have been disappointed with the performance of the Ikea Matter products but whilst I’m only 48 hours in… this is the most consistent connection I’ve ever had and my investment in the Ikea products finally feels worth it.

Google Home problems

In the Google Home app I tried connecting another service: the IKEA Smart Home app.
Instead of connecting, it just brings me to the IKEA Smart Home app itself.

The IKEA Smart Home app tells me to go to settings > Hub Settings > Integrations.
When I go there, I do not see a way to connect the IKEA app to Google Home.
It can only generate a 11 numbers long code for me. It tells me that I can use that to connect to external services (like Google Home I guess.

I copy that code and go back to the Google Home app. Instead of connecting another service, I now choose to add a device. My Dirigera indeed already shows. I click on it and fill in the code.
After clicking through some prompts, indeed the Dirigera shows as a device in my Google Home app, but that is the only thing that shows.

None of the smart lights that I have already set up in the IKEA Smart Home app show up in the Google Home app. None of them.
The Dirigera device shows, but I cannot really do anything with it.

What am I doing wrong?
In my house, I have a Google Nest Mini and a Google Audio, a IKEA DIRIGERA, and six IKEA Smart Lights.

I hope someone can tell me

What does this warning message mean? (And how can it be fixed?)

I think something happened with my Thread network overnight.

I had already added some devices in the previous weeks which worked perfectly, but today I tried to add a brand new Bilresa remote and a Tradfri driver. The Zigbee based Tradfri connected immediately, but I couldn't get the Bilresa to connect, no matter what I did. I noticed that I have this warning message "Thread configuration is skipped" showing up. I couldn't find anything in Google or Reddit, looking up this message.

I noticed that none of my Thread devices were working, they all showed up as Offline. I notices that in the Thread network details, in the Home smart app, the iOS Preferred Network and the Network added by HomeSmart differed. I messed around in the settings, did something so finally they became the same. I think that the pairing fail page had a message on the bottom that "the hub is not on the preferred network" - I could move the hub to the preferred network, but it did warn me that my Matter devices can actually fail to move (eg. stay offline) - which I think they did.

So my already connected Matter devices kept being offline so I had to re-pair all of them - I could finally pair my Bilresa remote too.

My Thread setup includes a Dirigera, + 3 homepods + 1 Apple TV 4K. It seems like that the Thread networks split into two somehow? Sadly I didn't take a screenshot the configuration of the "Thread Credentials" screen when I had the first bad state when the iOS and HomeSmart networks differed.

What worries me though is that this "Thread configuration is skipped" message still shows up and I don't know what it means and I don't know how to fix it, and I'm worried that I will have to re-pair all my devices again.
