Grillplats - A word of warning and lessons learnt

Some experience to share:

For legacy reasons, I have a more complex automation setup than I'd prefer. The main automation hub is a Homey, using a Google Nest Wifi mesh backbone, Hue lights, an Aqara M3 and a few other bits and bobs.

I decided to consolidate a lot of devices on Matter a few months ago and gradually bought a load of IKEA devices (amongst a few from other brands). They all worked OK but I had been having Thread network issues for a while (lost packets, dropped devices etc), ranging from minor annoyance to the odd major collapse. At one point I thought I had narrowed it down to a faulty Grillplats (posted elsewhere), but was still having issues.

I eventually did narrow the ongoing issues down to the Grillplats (8 of), and did some experiments:

* With all 8 Grillplats, unstable and with loads of discarded packets

* Removed all the Grillplats, network stabilised completely

* Replaced 4 of the Grillplats with Onvis plugs (slightly higher on the budget ladder), network even more stable as they took over some routing.

* Added back just 1 Grillplats, the GrillPlats immediately started discarding huge numbers of packets and took out some local devices.

* Removed that Grillplats, repowered lost devices, network now healthy again, with low packet lost

My other IKEA devices are fine. I'm pretty sure the Grillplats were OK when I had a smaller Thread network. My theory is that Grillplats just can't cope with a network this busy, where the Onvis can. Other theories are most welcome, but maybe we need to avoid Grillplats on larger Thread networks.

Upgraded SOMRIG and BILRESA face plate customizer site

The Tool: https://somrig.marcel1.com/

https://preview.redd.it/n54lsqi18qjh1.png?width=1509&format=png&auto=webp&s=cf820f0df8ff4e13867c3ae7883e4a7ccc901832

I am back with the IKEA lightswitch custom covers! Now with BILRESA support and 3D model download for printing.

A few months ago I was bothered that the SOMRIG makro button just comes with a handfull of pre-printed paper sheets to customize the buttons, and I did not find any resource to get or make more of them.

So I built myself a little tool to create those paper printouts. The tool lets you set text, icons, separators, etc.

With indicators for single press, double press or press and hold! ( • , ••, - )

At some point someone asked me if i could offer SVG download as well so it can be used for 3D printing, so I did that as well.

But I noticed that there are no nice 3D models out there to replace the original button faceplates. So I made some, and that was the hardest job of the whole project. Getting a nice fit, good feeling and no breakage on the prints was a hassle. But after a buuunch of prototypes I made it work. And since I now had the 3D models and the tool, I had to combine what I have.. Now the tool supports direct 3D model download, ready for the slicer. For BILRESA and SOMRIG.

Downside to that approach is that I get zero points on makerworld for downloads on the website to finance my next printer, but oh well, I just could not bring myself to make the useability shittier for points haha

I hope someone can make use of the tool! And I am open and happy about feedback or requests (:

Here also the models on makerworld, if anyone wants to print some from there, I would be happy about the points haha
Or boosts of course, if you feel like it

2.975.2 update broke Dirigera, accessories not responding

So I’m on the latest dirigera update. i Had to unplug my hub from power for 1 minute just to move some stuff. After plugging it back it all zigbee accessories are unresponsive. thread accessories work fine in ikea app and iOS Home app, it’s like the zigbee radio from the hub is not working anymore after power restart.

Any ideas? Thanks

Innr Ceiling Light on Dirigera hub

Hi all

Anyone has experience running an Innr Color Ceiling Light with the Dirigera hub?

https://innr.com/products/innr-round-ceiling-light-white-colour

Compatibility is not guaranteed by Innr Support but "should work". I read elsewhere that users had trouble with LED strips from Innr on Dirigera but light bulps on the other hand seem to work flawlessly.

Thanks for any hands on experience.

Can't connect at all... Driggera, Matter & Kajplats Lights

I got the Driggera and 2x Kajplats

Fw: 2.975.2

Matter: 26.4.0

The network setup it's very easy: One ONT-Router, public IP, no IPv6

  • I tried connecting from both iPhone and Android, both failed
  • Tried resetting the Thread network
  • Tried with both
  • Reset the hub
  • Reset network
  • Reset the bulbs
  • On iPhone I got a popup if I want "preferred thread", tried that too
  • Tried with NAT64 on/ off

The lights are discoverable, because I get popups, but they can't connect... I get "could not reach the hub"

Absolutely nothing works... a night ruined because I needed these lights to work for ambiance...

Hub issue - can’t add new devices

I had the dirigera hub for maybe 2 years. The Trådfri accessories paired really easily but now with all the new devices from IKEA there is just a loading screen and then it fails.

I have the latest hub software.

Any issue with my router that cause this ?

Alpstuga showing wrong time when connected over matter

Hi I have Alpstuga sensor for few months now and I'm happy with the air quality readings but what annoys me is the time (which I would like to be using despite being air sensor).

I have it connected to Google Nest Wifi Pro (matter hub) and the time sync often and well - when I do manual time adjustment on Alpstuga it syncs back to auto time in short time. But it sync to UTC time and I'm in CEST/CET zone.

I don't have this on any other matter device but they usually have a setting of time zone / location on their own or no time at all so it is hard to compare. Ikea app doesn't allow setting time zone for Alpstuga.

Any advice how to fix this? Or is it something Ikea needs to fix on their end? Thanks! u/tradfri

Anyone had this issue yet? Alpstuga

I have had this alpstuga for about a year now, maybe less. Seems like some of the LEDs randomly died.
Device never gets moved or bumped.

Best option for ~28m of smart LED strip lighting with an IKEA smart home setup?

We’re currently using IKEA smart home tech throughout our house — smart bulbs, the DIRIGERA hub, motion sensors and door/window sensors — and we’d ideally like to keep everything working with Matter.

Our next project is adding LED strip lighting along the skirting boards around our living room. I’ve measured the route and we’re looking at roughly 28 metres of LED strip in total.

We’ve been looking at IKEA’s KABBLEKA LED strips as they’d obviously integrate nicely with the rest of our setup, but at that length we’d need quite a few packs.

The bit we’re struggling to work out is:

  • Can multiple KABBLEKA strips actually be connected together to make one continuous run?
  • If they can, is there a limit to how many can be connected/powered together?
  • If not, would we need multiple power supplies/controllers dotted around the room?
  • Are there any better alternatives for a ~28m run that can still be controlled through IKEA/DIRIGERA, Matter or another system that integrates nicely with it?

Ideally we’d like the whole strip to behave as one light rather than having to control loads of separate sections individually.

Has anyone done something similar with IKEA smart lighting? Would love to hear what setup you went with! 🙂

MYGGSPRAY Orientation

With MYGGSPRAY, how do you know which way to orientate the device for each of these detection patterns. I'm after the longer throw of the first diagram.

Cheers!

How to extend Ikea Home Smart into my Garden

Hey

I have a simple IKEA Home Smart setup. A Dirigera Hub and several components in the house. Both the old ones and the new ones (matter).

I would like to use some stuff in my garden house (more of a shed) as well. Distance between there and the house is little over 60m.

How can I connect components in the garden with Dirigera Hub in my house?

Thx for your support

Zemismart MTP1 wont connect to dirigera - matter

Hello I recently bought Zemismart MTP1 blinds motor specifically for their matter compatibility with the intention to connect it with ikea home smart app, When trying to pair at first it says successful but when it comes back the the ikea app it just says it didn't find any devices and its nowhere to be found. I tried many troubleshooting steps like restarting the hub and resetting the blind motor none helped. Any ideas?

Cannot connect TIMMERFLOTTE. Help please.

For the life of me I cannot connect this TIMMERFLOTTE. It is failing consistently at the "Checking connectivity to Thread network". I have restarted the network twice, and then it also checked the network as part of that. I have restarted my phone (Samsung galaxy 23FE). I have done a hard reset on the TIMMERFLOTTE. Please help. When I press the elipses in the space where the thread network checking is happening, a google support for help and feedback comes up? Why is that? I am in the Ikea app.

Does the new smart home products work with tradfri?

So i have seen tradfis selling around as used for cheap, cause of the dirigera hub and the discontinuing of the old modelled lights. So. I was thinking cause im kinda broke, could i buy tradfri, and then buy the new lights and just use them with the tradfri? If someone ever tried this, tell me, did it work? Did it go great? Thank you! (Edit) actually going to buy the dirigera instead :D

Tradfri Gateway & Mittled - How to make this matter compatible

We recently bought a new home and one of the build in closets has several mittled lights incl a Tradfri Gateway.

Since I am not planning to buy a Dirigera just for the closet, I was wondering if there is an alternative, without replacing the lights.

Is there a way to add matter to the Tradfri gateway?

Styrbar executes GH automation....for one button only

I had bought and had no luck getting an automation with Styrbar and Google Home to work. Recently, I noticed a light was on a few times when I didn't turn it on. I looked at history and it turns out I was hitting the Styrbar I threw in a drawer which was activating an automation to turn the light on.

Great. My question is it only shows press, long press and long press release in the GH app as triggers. Is there anyway to get the any other triggers to work (like the dimming buttons)?

Ikea Why? How

This is a light Set of 4 Ikea identical lights, connected using Dirigera to the remote.

It is not an automation, it's just bugged. I thought my wife did something to cause it until it happened to me.

Why is this happening, and why restarting the lights fixes it?

Ikea Jetstöm 100x40

Hello. I just installed the Ikea Jetström today. Has anyone experienced it fully illuminated even when powering off the light switch? I replaced our old lamp with the Jetström and wired it the same. Not sure why it stays illuminated when powering off the switch.

I can control the light via the remote tho.
