Duplicate errors when nothing overlaps + APSC 182 has no sections available without conflict

Hey everyone, I missed my initial registration appointment and now im completely stuck fixing my schedule.

Workday is flagging overlapping errors, but nothing actually conflicts day by day. However, workday is weirdly duplicating my sections.

Has anyone dealt with this on workday before? How do i clear the duplicates?

I also need to add APSC 182, but it shows absolutely no options to add without overlapping.

Thanks 🙏🏿

Joining in September

Hey, everyone 👋

This post is directed largely towards the current UBCO students.
My name is Nirvana, I’m an international student joining in September as a first year student. I am 17 years old (turning 18 on 15th September) I’ve applied for my on-campus accommodations (haven’t received any confirmation of anything though, waiting on further communication from UBCO).

I have a number of questions regarding UBCO’s accommodations, student life on campus and in Kelowna, convenience facilities on campus (such as grocery stores, mess halls/cafes, laundry rooms, etc.), transportation, schedules, exams/test, semester structure, nightlife/entertainment, so on and so forth.
Basically, I want to get an idea of what day to day life is like there. I also have smaller nuanced questions regarding my personal situation which I cannot isolate into a single category.

I was initially going to ask everything here but I realised it would turn into a massive wall of text. If anyone is willing to shoot me a DM and hop on a quick voice call sometime, I’d really appreciate it. It would be a far easier and more natural way to go through everything rather than sending hundreds of messages back and forth.

Thanks in advance, I look forward to joining UBCO.

should i write this for personal profile or no?

hi i'm thinking of applying to ubc next fall, so i was preparing what i should write for the personal profile this summer. i know you have to not just write about ur accomplishments but your struggles and what makes you unique and all that so, would it be a good idea if i wrote about how i struggled with change, and an example of that was when i moved schools in grade 8 and then grade 11, something to do with those experiences or is that just stupid and shows ubc that im not good w stress or making friends plzzz help

Should I take COSC 111 instead of APSC 177?

For context I failed APSC 177 during my first attempt and am trying to decide whether to retake it or take COSC 111 instead since it can be substituted for APSC 177.

For anyone who’s taken the course, are there any drawbacks or disadvantages to this and is the course easier or harder in comparison to APSC 177?

Standard courses load for science major

Hi everyone. So basically I'm really curious about if you guys really follow academic calendar courses to able to graduate and finish the courses on time in 4 year or usually u need to expand to 5 year or summer to able get degree like bio or biochem or chem or bio. Because it seems like academic calendar if I really follow that the courses load for biochem for example will be 3 bio, 2 chem in a sem which is pretty hard. But when I look to summer courses we don't offer that much courses to take in summer. And in my 1st year I follow like exactly like academic calendar and I think it seems not a good choice to able to balance all the courses load.

Dumb question

I am a future first year student at UBCO, and I was wondering on whether whatever stuff like a lamp or bedsheets or a mini vaccum cleaner, that would be required in my dorm room, so like should I directly enter my dorm/building address to get it delivered there itself instead of carrying it all in a bag? is that a good idea?

Ubco engineering

Is ubco really that bad? I see a lot of posts about it being a terrible option…I’m from a really small Caribbean country where I’ve been surrounded by trees my entire life so I could care less about studying in a really deserted area.

*im planning on pursuing engineering for bachelors and am still deciding which universities to apply to…Please give some recommendations (I’m an international student and don’t really worry too much about tuition). 🙏

Workday blocking BIOL 131/133 registration (open seats but restricted) – HELP

Hey everyone,

I’m a Biology major and I'm trying to register for BIOL 131 (Term 1) and BIOL 133 (Term 2).
Workday is completely blocking me from registering specifically the lab section after the lab section that I was able to put in saved schedule got closed. I checked my timetable, and other open lab sections fit into my current schedule perfectly with no time conflicts. Lecture section is open as well. I can literally see that there are open seats available in those specific labs, but the system won't let me add the lecture and lab together.

The warning gives me “During course registrations, you won't be able to register for this course section because you don't meet the eligibility requirements for the reserved seats and the unreserved seats are at full capacity. Replace the course section if you can't resolve this issue.”

The exact course notes in Workday say:
"This course has prioritized registration: School of Nursing students; BIOL/BIOC students; Science students and then general registration. Any reserved seats not filled by SoN will be released 2 weeks after 1st year registration begins."
Has anyone dealt with this specific Nursing restriction before?
First-year registration opened on June 22/23, which means the 2-week mark lands right around early July. Does Workday automatically unlock the seats the exact second that 2 weeks hits?
Should I email ugbiology.okanagan@ubc.ca to get a manual override right now, or will they just ignore me and make me wait out the 2 weeks?

I need this sequence to apply for my Master's degree later, so I'm stressed about losing a spot. Any advice on what to do next would be amazing. Thanks!

Are there good asian restaurants?

I'm chinese, and I'm very scared I'm not going to find any authentic chinese places. I remember going to Kelowna years ago and all the asian places we tried were basically just catered to white people... It was fine, but nothing like the chinese food from china town in Calgary. Are there any other asian students who know authentic places? I know how to cook stuff, but groceries are going to be a once every few months thing because I don't got money for that lol

Advice on foundational courses for BoA

Hi. I'm an undergrad doing bachelor of arts and I'm looking at the degree requirements. If anyone is also boa, can you let me know some free classes to take? (communication, creativity, critical thinking, classes that should be in those kinds of stuff).
