Board Game Night

Hello, y'all! I posted a few days ago about how cool it is being here at UBCO, and one thing I mentioned was wishing there were more social activities or events over the summer, as it didn't feel like there was much to do in terms of meeting people. I'm staying on campus in the Lower Cascades, and my roommates and I have been doing occasional game nights to kinda get to know each other and hang out- we're planning on doing a board game tonight, and we just wanted to kinda open it up in case anyone else out there is feeling like they haven't had enough opportunities to meet people and kinda hang out.

We're going to be playing a game called Betrayal at the House on the Hill, it's basically a board game where you play as a group of ghost hunters investigating a haunted mansion, it's a ton of fun. We're in Cascades building F, unit 102 (it's facing the street on the first floor, we'll probably have the door open to make it easier to find. We'll probably be starting around 7. Shoot me a message or comment if you're planning on showing up!

Making friends

Hi, I moved to Kelowna in September and honestly I’ve enjoyed my time here. I’m in grad school, I spend a lot of time doing my work from home, it’s been a blessing and a curse. I’ve had such a hard time making friends, or finding meaningful connections with like minded people. I have tried to start conversations when I seat next to someone but never seems to go anywhere. I literally have no friends, I know a few people from trying out different clubs, but never get invited out to things. Any tips, I’m open ears 😫?

Biol 210 vs 204

Can anyone who’s taken these courses speak to their experiences with them?

I have a choice between the two and honestly i’m not that interested in either subject but i’d love to know which course was easier and more engaging.

Thanks!!!
(for context 210 with chase mason and 204 with ken savage)

Where do I go?

Ubc was my dream I am hoping to transfer to Sauder if I can. Which one is better overall city and jobs and internships? Do u think it’s easy to transfer? Help me please.

YOU GUYS! WE'RE HERE!

I just moved here from the States for the summer semester, and y'all- this is the coolest thing ever. This campus, the programs, the environment, the local food, everything. It's so easy to get normalized to an environment, to get bogged down by all the small picture bullshit. I hope you guys take a moment to appreciate though, this is the coolest thing ever. I feel so lucky to be here, and I hope some of you guys do too.

The one thing I'm bummed about is how little social/club type activity there seems to be over the summer, so I'm thinking about possible stuff to try to organize, just very unofficially and casually. Shoot me a message or comment if you would be interested in that.

2026/2027 Fall/Winter Courses

For anyone wondering and for questions I’m gonna assume people will have soon, the courses for next year have been posted as of today. I think some things could change from now until registration so keep that in mind but we can now set up course schedules in workday. On that note, workday also has a new calendar view function which makes it way easier to see your schedule (had to happen sometime). Happy hunting!

Thoughts on the Veda Exclusive Student Housing near UBCO

Hi!! Does anyone have experience with the VEDA Exclusive Student Housing near UBCO in Kelowna, British Columbia? I am talking about the one on 842 Academy Way. I'm an international student interested in getting an unit, but I am worried it might be an scam or a place that is crumbling. Please let me know if you've been there as a guest for a friend or someone who's live it in personally. What are your thoughts on the place. PLS HELP A DESPERATE STUDENT OUT.

Eng second year onwards course planning

As an eng student coming into second year, realized that there were loads of course planning-related shit I wasn't aware of cos universities want to keep their mouths shut and hog more money out of us international students.

For example, nobody told me the syllabus structure of COSC 111 and the way its taught would be way better than taking APSC 177, etc. Or that an online course was available that every other eng student other than me took apparently. If so, I wouldn't have wasted thousands of dollars on a shit course like 177.

So, just wanted to come on here and ask whether theres any similar courses like that (e.g. a fucked syllabus) for second year onwards, cos I'm tired of universities bullshitting with us. I'm pretty much set on mechanical with a specialization in aerospace, and potentially want to do an astrophysics course as an alternative elective if possible cos I have a pretty good GPA so far.

PS I have spoken to an academic advisor before, but I probably asked them at the wrong time as they themselves weren't sure what courses would be available during the summer or if I could take a certain course or not, etc. Just fyi.

Completion letter

Mine finally switched from the "upon completion" wording to "has completed" but now the second last line says:

"Subject to the approval of the Senate, this credential will be officially conferred in May 2026."

Is this fine?

Need opinions for engineering summer courses

I have two options:

ENGR 305 with Louzanne Bam
ENGR 468 with Ayman AlNaggar

I don’t know much about 305, except attendance is extremely mandatory? I also know nothing about the prof. How was she for winter? How is she for summer? I’ve also heard grading has gotten harsh over time, is that true?

I have taken a course with Dr AlNaggar before, so I vaguely know what to expect. But how is that course specifically? Anyone know? How has the prof himself been in recent years?

I could technically do neither and focus on other things, but if I did want a course, these are my options. Let me know anything you can 🙏
