how's the social life and living in grand forks?

i'm from the south and have committed to UND, i was wondering how the social life is in ND, are the people friendly or rude? also how is living in grand forks, i've done research and it looks like a hella boring "city", but is it at least okay and livable? is there stuff to do ?? since i will be out of state (20 hr drive for me), i'm thinking i will have to just bike around, but can you even do that bc of the snow out there? pls help, i need advice :/

Got assigned a residency building but want on-campus apartment

I'm a transfer student with more than 60 credits coming in. I applied for on-campus apartments back in January (Which I assumed would be alright since I can bypass the First Year Live-On Requirement). Then last month, I submitted a completely separate application for residency buildings as a worst-case-scenario backup cause my family suggested it.

I just got assigned U-Place and haven't heard anything about my apartment application. I already sent an email to housing but wanted to see if anyone has been in a similar situation.

A few things I'm wondering:

  1. Does getting assigned a residency building mean you're out of the running for apartments, or do the two applications run separately?
  2. Do I need to cancel/decline the residency building assignment to stay eligible for apartments, or will that just leave me with nothing?
  3. Was I supposed to do something more than the application for on-campus apartments? I know the off campus ones had a different site and whatnot, but I assumed the only first step for on-campus was

Any experience or insight would be greatly appreciated, I'm getting ancy while waiting to hear back from housing.

Edit: I do not want a food plan. In my 3 years at another university I barely utilized it and do not plan to do so at UND. That’s why I want an on-campus apartment rather than the listed “residency halls” regardless if they’re apartment style or not.

How many credit should i take in my first semester?

Im an incoming Commercial Aviation major with a flight slot for the fall. Im also doing a second major in business analytics. The recommended class list that I got from my advisor is telling me to do 16 credits but I want to finish both of my majors inf 4 years so I want to do a couple more credits maybe around 25. Is that possible or will it end up being too much?

The advisor recommended these courses to me: Meteorology I, Meteorolgy I Laboratory, Aviation Orientation, Introduction to Aviation, Flight Lab, Introduction to Fine Arts, and Fundamentals of Computer Information Systems.
