Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

[Poland] Landlord kept my deposit for rent after taking back the keys and refusing me access — does this make sense legally?

I rented an apartment in Poland for several years. I recently moved out and I'm now in a dispute with my former landlord over the security deposit.

I'm deliberately changing some dates and amounts for privacy, but the basic situation is accurate.

The deposit was approximately 7,500 PLN.

I informed the landlord in advance that I was moving out. During the first few days of the month I removed all of my belongings, and a few days later I handed all apartment keys to an agent acting for the landlord. The landlord himself had told me to coordinate the handover with that agent.

After the keys were handed over, I no longer had access to the apartment.

There were some minor cleaning issues after the handover. I told the landlord I was willing to come back and clean/fix anything reasonable myself.

He refused.

He basically said he didn't trust us anymore and that cleaners had already been arranged. The keys were then apparently given to the cleaning company, so the landlord/agent/cleaners had control of the apartment while I had no way to enter it.

Several weeks later, the landlord told me he was withholding almost the entire deposit.

His reasoning is roughly:

  • about 4,200 PLN for another full month of rent, because according to him the lease had not formally terminated yet;
  • about 2,700 PLN for cleaning/repairs;
  • almost nothing left from the deposit.

The lease does contain a written notice period, which is the part that concerns me.

However, what I don't understand is the landlord's position regarding that final month.

If I was supposedly still legally renting the apartment and therefore owed full rent, how could he:

  • take back all of the keys;
  • refuse to give me access;
  • tell me I wasn't allowed back inside;
  • give access to his own cleaners;
  • exercise complete control over the apartment?

And regarding the cleaning charge: I explicitly offered to come back and clean reasonable remaining issues myself, but he refused access and hired cleaners anyway. He is now trying to make me pay for that.

I have written messages showing:

  • advance discussion about moving out;
  • the landlord directing me to his agent for the handover;
  • arrangement/return of the keys;
  • confirmation that all keys were returned;
  • my request to return and finish cleaning;
  • the landlord refusing access because cleaners were already arranged.

I also have the original lease, move-in documentation/photos, move-out photos and the landlord's written calculation of the deductions (no receipts).

My questions:

  1. Under Polish law, can the landlord still claim a full month's rent after accepting all keys and then refusing the tenant any further access?
  2. Could accepting the keys through his authorized agent and subsequently taking exclusive control of the apartment be evidence that the landlord accepted an earlier termination/surrender by conduct, despite the notice clause?
  3. Can he reasonably charge me for professional cleaning after I offered to clean the remaining issues myself and he specifically refused to let me back into the apartment?
  4. How much documentation does a landlord normally need to justify deductions for alleged cleaning/damage — invoices, before/after photos, itemized costs, etc.?
  5. If he refuses to return the deposit, is the normal next step in Poland a przedsądowe wezwanie do zapłaty followed by a civil claim?
  6. For anyone who has actually taken a landlord to court in Poland over a deposit: was it financially worth doing for an amount in the several-thousand-PLN range?

I'm particularly interested in answers from Polish lawyers, landlords/tenants who have dealt with a similar dispute, or anyone who has actually gone through the Polish civil court process.

Just trying to understand whether his position is legally reasonable and whether pursuing the deposit is worth it.

Help identify a hit-and-run cyclist who seriously injured my wife on Armii Krajowej bike path

EDIT / UPDATE: We found him.

After 3 days of searching, thanks to tips from people here and on other local groups, we managed to locate the suspect hiding in an abandoned building near the scene. Police confirmed his identity during the intervention — he admitted to being involved in the accident and fleeing the scene without helping her. When they asked him, why he left injuried woman, be murmured that he panicked...

Thank you all so much for the tips, shares, and reach — this genuinely would not have happened without this community. It's still an ongoing case, but at least now there's a real suspect instead of just a description and a blurry photo.

Really appreciate everyone who helped push this forward.

Date: August 17, 2026, around 12:00 PM

📍 Location: Warsaw, bike path along Armii Krajowej street, near the Waldorf shooting range (no. 23)

My wife was riding her bicycle on the bike path when she was hit by a man riding an electric fatbike-type vehicle (similar to the ones food couriers use, though the offender was not a courier/delivery worker) — one that doesn't require pedaling to move.

The offender did not help her and fled the scene, heading east toward Maczka street.

My wife suffered very serious injuries – knocked-out teeth, a dislocated jaw, a torn and stitched upper lip, a dislocated shoulder, and numerous abrasions and bruises over her whole body. She was taken to the hospital by ambulance. She now faces upper jaw reconstruction surgery and a long rehabilitation. She was wearing a helmet – without it, the consequences could have been even worse.

DESCRIPTION OF THE OFFENDER:

👤 Man, approx. 50–60 years old, heavyset build

👕 Orange/red t-shirt, dark long pants, baseball cap

🚲 Vehicle: electric fatbike with thick tires, with a large black box/case mounted on the rear rack

📸 Attached is a photo of the offender taken as he was fleeing.

The case has been reported to the police, nearby CCTV footage is being analyzed, and the investigation is ongoing.

IF:

– you recognize this vehicle or person,

– you witnessed the incident or saw the offender that day in the area,

– you have footage from a bike camera, dashcam, or nearby CCTV –

please write in the comments, send a private message, or report it directly to the KRP Warszawa IV police station, case number 295956, phone: 477239434.

A person who left an injured woman lying on the path and fled does not deserve a clear conscience. Please help find him.

🙏 Please share this widely – every share increases the chance of finding the offender.

Anyone here making extra cash with flexible work around a full-time job?

Hi everyone! I'm currently grinding the 9-5 corporate life and looking to pick up some extra income on the side. I'm open to suggestions, but I'm specifically interested in gigs where I can commit just a few hours at a time and get paid flexibly—nothing like courier work though. Any recommendations on where to sign up?

Your golden tip to elevate the experience in Warsaw

Hi All,

We are planning a vacation with some friends to Warsaw. We will stay for four days and would love to see some of the local culture (and kitchen). We love board games, live music, some drinks, and to just get lost in the city.

The plan for now is to have a place to say close to the old centrum so it is easy to walk around. maybe do a cooking course, see some museum, go to live music bars and paradox cafe.

The question:

What is your golden tip that we cant find online, or the place we can't miss?

Where can a tourist buy traditional Polish pottery at reasonable prices?

I’m currently visiting Warsaw and would love to buy some traditional Polish ceramics as a souvenir, especially something in the classic Bolesławiec style.

I’m not looking for anything super fancy or collectible . Maybe a mug, small bowl, or plate, ideally for around €25 or less.

Are there any shops, markets, outlets, or other places in Warsaw where tourists can find traditional Polish pottery without paying inflated tourist prices? I’d really appreciate any recommendations!

Rent and living price in mokotov

Hi, I'm thinking of moving to Warsaw. I have a job paying ~10.000zl after taxes. I’m planning to choose the Mokotów district, somewhere not too far from Konstruktorska Street or Westfield Mokotów. There’s an office in that area for a company that offers relocation assistance. After reading this thread, I’m a little confused - some people say 6,000–8,000 is enough per person, while others say even 10,000 would barely be enough. Which is true?) As far as I understand, can I rent in the area I want for 4,000–5,000, or should I consider a location further away since I have the option of taking the metro or public transportation?

From what I know, I don’t have to go to the office every day, so I can choose something farther away at a reasonable price (or the same price but with better conditions).

I’m living alone, don’t have any pets, and don’t plan on partying hard at clubs.

Foreigners living in Poland?

Hi! I’m doing a short anonymous survey as part of my master’s studies. It’s for people living in Poland who originally come from another country. The survey takes about 10–15 minutes, and participation would help a lot. Link in the comment box.

Thank you!

Police being avoidant (???)

I am not Polish, but my friend in Warsaw was telling me something about her life which I found super bizarre. I want to better understand exactly what has happened, because the whole thing seems insane to me.

My friend (let's call her "A") lives in Warsaw and she have a sort of criminal relative (let's call him "B") who was abroad for many years but he has recently returned to Warsaw.

On a weekly basis, B will show up to A's apartment block and try to kick/punch the entrance door while screaming at the building. On some other days, B may harass A's parents while they are shopping at the local Biedronka.

During the first incident, police were called. The police car rolled up on the street, saw B, then drove away quietly. On subsequent calls, the police call taker declined to send officers (making various reasons why they cannot do anything). As a result, A has given up on calling the police and has to deal with weekly harassment from B.

I was further surprised to learn that, in the past, officers used to sometimes knock on the door to ask A's family if they have seen B because they are looking for him. This would occur every couple of years. At the time of these questions, B was probably living in the UK. So... I don't understand why B was a person of interest but now he's suddenly of zero importance.

I have some questions:
[1] Is it possible A is now on a blacklist and as a result will never receive police help?
[2] Is there some kind of ombudsman's office either at Warsaw City Hall or with the Police Department that handles cases like these?

WUT accommodation – how long does this take?

Hi! My WUT accommodation application was submitted on August 4, formally verified on August 7, and changed to “Place allocated” on August 13. However, I still don’t have the dorm/room details or accommodation document.

I have my Polish D-type visa appointment on August 20, and I can postpone it if necessary.

For anyone who has experienced this process or knows how it works, how long does it usually take after “Place allocated” to receive the actual accommodation confirmation? Would you wait until August 20, or postpone the visa appointment until the document is available?
