Rob Beckett is on record telling his brother that the hosts of a huge podcast no longer get on, but are sticking it out for the bunse. Who could it be?

Off Menu? Chatabix? I’m not sure of anything I listen to that it could be…

S5 EP9: Jake Bhardwaj

Sometimes you think the life of a comedian is all glitz and glamour, and then eps like this (and Ian Smith, Dan Tiernan and Christopher MacArthur-Boyd) remind you that it absolutely isn’t. Mites, shit sausage baps, buying plasters and another kebab to chase the one the night before. What a life! Enjoyed hearing a quiz where we immediately got all the answers… take note, Max.

David is in a veritable goldmine of potential WDWDY guests at Edinburgh, is there anyone you’d like David to tell Max to book? For me I’d love Adam Riches (would be good to hear another perspective on the vibrating Tortoise), Demi Adejuyigbe (v funny on spelling bee), and Olga Koch (would give the guys short shrift).

Teddington quiz 2: list of possibilities

I whittled down a list of possible answers to Teddington 2 by making some assumptions about the "former Premier League footballers" Max saw in the hotel.

  1. I am guessing both of them are fully retired from football, not former Premier League players who are currently playing in Europe or somewhere else.
  2. I think it's likely that both players had between 100 and 350 appearances in the Premier League (the retired players with less than 100 appearances tend to be less recognizable...)
  3. I assume they are both from England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, or Northern Ireland. This could easily be wrong though.
  4. I am hoping the number of appearances that Max has for these players matches the data that I got from premierleague.com

With these assumptions, I got a list of 314 possible pairs of players who have a combined total of 450 appearances. I uploaded the list here: https://pastebin.com/KnEu9AX2

Of course, one or more of my assumptions could be incorrect. But I feel like there's a good chance that the correct answer is in this list.

Perfect 3 British cheese cheeseboard

Help me in my quest to perfect my cheeseboard.

The rules:

Has to be cheese

Has to be British

Has to be 3 of them

Has to be generally available in a supermarket, top points for Tesco/Sainsbury's/Asda/Morrisons, entries from Aldi/Lidl, M&S and Waitrose accepted but not encouraged.

My current effort is a blacksticks blue, red fox and kidderton ash. I feel improvements can be made particularly on the soft cheese.

Solution to Teddington Quiz, Part 2

Darren Bent and David Bentley

  • This is the most likely pair of PL footballers I can find with a combined total of 450 appearances. Bent has 276 appearances, and Bentley has 174. There are other possibilities, (see below), but based on the following evidence this pair are the most likely
  • They're both have strong London connections. Bent is from Tooting and Tottenham was the last club Bentley played for.
  • They were teammates at Tottenham - Max's second team - during the 2008–2009 season
  • Their careers are right in the "Soccer AM glory years" wheelhouse, i.e. 2000s and 2010s, so more likely to be recognised by Max than a player that retired in the mid-90s
  • They've worked in the media post-retirement. It's quite likely Max had either or both of them on his TalkSport or Soccer AM shows at some point
  • They're of the right level (mid-ranking) to be recognised by Max and spotted in Teddington. Cristiano Ronaldo and Paolo DiCanio fit the bill in terms of era and PL appearances, but it's harder to imagine both of those checking out of a Teddington hotel.

Oops

The correct appearances figure for Bentley is 184 which means he and Bent have a combined total of 460

Other Possibilities

Combinations of retired PL footballers with exactly 450 appearances:

  1. Andy Johnson (187) & Kevin Phillips (263)
  2. Mousa Dembélé (243) & Nigel Reo-Coker (207)
  3. Pascal Chimbonda (148) & Nolberto Solano (302)

New Teddington Quiz -Find the data scientist

where is the data scientist who worked out the last quiz?

Parameters

2 premier league footballers

Total caps 450 +/- 10 (is 10 too small for max's margin of error)

One sounded like was on soccer am

Second one unconfirmed

Both didn't seem to know who max is so prob before GFW times.

Davids theory is that they are potentially a couple.....that might be a parameter that is hard to include

In it for life: are you?

been listening from the start and whilst I’ve always got the limits of the format, it’s always been a funny and light hearted addition to my podcast rotation. recently though I’ll be honest, I’ve found episodes pretty dull and the format is getting quite tired. I definitely sense that DoD is feeling like this. theres been a few minor comments and retorts that he’s sort of over it, or at least on the way. Max has always, since taking over from Jimbo on FW had an air of insecurity about his professional life, which makes him endearing, but it’s feeling all a little stretched now.

even the “I’m in it for life” feels like Max saying it to DoD and IMO, the way the episodes are going neither are.

some better guests and some interesting ideas would save it for sure, but atm it’s a slog of a listen. I’ve said on here before I’d be interested to hear normal peoples days. others disagreed. but comedian angle is getting a bit bloated now.

fully expecting pelters for this, but I’m ready
