We’re in Sierra Madre, California and wondering what this crazy hard fungus is. We’ve noticed a ton pop up in the neighborhood and in the burn areas of Altadena and Pasadena from the Eaton fire 18 months ago. Any help is appreciated!
Found these in Southeast Louisiana, USA.
They are growing on a dead oak log.
Edit: As pointed out by a commenter, these are NOT shelf mushrooms.

I’m in Michigan, this is all spawning around a maple tree outside of my apartment and I want to know more! what this is! Looks like two or three different kind of fungus/mushrooms growing around the base of the trunk. It first appeared about a week ago (max) and started as a spot of the browner shroomy on the base of the trunk. The brown fungus started spreading around the trunk, for a day, and the next day or so there was some on the ground on the opposite side, which has since spread into a big patch. After that I noticed the nodules (if that’s what to call them) appear out of the mulch a couple feet away from the trunk. And then this morning I noticed a small patch of the yellow fungus, and it’s now grown to the size it is (about 1.5 feet across).
I just wanna know what kind of mushrooms they are, and why, perhaps, they may be growing around this tree? What are the different kinds, or are they the same guy but different looking? What else may this indicate about the surrounding environment? Is there anything I should worry about? Should I give it a name and will it be my friend? (If so, how do I make friends?) etc etc etc
If any super cool mycologists would like to impart some knowledge, I’d love to learn something new!
Other things maybe of note:
- The tree and surrounding plants don’t seem to be in distress at all,
- we have had all that wildfire smoke here this past weekend if that plays a role
- there hasn’t been excessive rainfall but it has been humid.

I found these little guys in the woods on the leaf little and when i picked one up it instantly bruised blue so obviously i was intrigued! Im sure theres not much you can do given how small they are but figured it was worth at-least posting.

First time seeing this mushroom. Found in Hamilton County, TN
Hoping for some help identifying the boletes in this picture. The red and yellow one seems to be boletus sensibilis as it stains instantly blue (bummer because I was hoping it was boletus bicolor) but I’m having a hard time with the other two large groups. The smaller mushrooms aren’t boletes, not asking about those.
The large boletes were both found in my lawn under a very large oak. I have a mixed forest of eastern white pine, maple, oak, sassafrass, birch, beech, etc.
The cracked ones do not stain. Even when exposed for a while, the flesh in the cracks is not changing much; it’s staying closer to cream - golden. The pores are very spongy.
The other ones also do not stain, and their caps feel very velvety. I’m not sure they aren’t the same mushrooms to be honest- they have so many very similar features.
I did try posting about these in the mycology group but am not getting much in response. I appreciate if anyone has recommendations for where to continue to narrow things down!

My grandma has a little standalone flower bed and this morning when I was sitting outside I noticed these clusters of mushrooms growing. I’m not very knowledgeable in things like this and wanted to know if anyone knew what type of mushroom or why they were growing with the flowers? It has been very hot and rainy this year where I live (Midwest) and didn’t know if that had anything to do with them showing up. (Please ignore the dying flowers, this is fresh dirt that nothing has been grown in and plants we’ve never tried growing before. The heat hasn’t helped that.) thanks! Went on a small hike and found multiple mushrooms.
Found on a random nighttime dog walk in the foothills of the Blue Ridge, Virginia. Seek couldn’t get me past Amanita mushroom.
