Starting A Small Female-Only (~28+) Writing Group✨

Hey! I was looking to form a small writing group of women who are serious about writing and furthering their writing ability. I'm older (early 30s) and I find that there are more groups for younger writers out there, so I'm hoping to fill this space for the "older" women (we're not old but that's what the youths call us 😭;;;) who feel excluded or out of place in most groups these days.

To be honest though, I'm pretty introverted, and not the best leader or instigator of conversation, so hopefully someone can help out. LOL I would like people who will be as active as they can be and are passionate about writing and reading each other’s work! I want to be able to uplift and hype each other up while also giving constructive criticism. I'm very accustomed to critique circles, so I hope for similar-minded people who will bring the same energy.

‼️ hard rule: make sure everybody is involved, everybody is getting feedback at all stages, and everyone is being respected!

Please do comment/send me a DM if you are interested! ✨

Genre/s: any fiction! with that being said, I do want to make it clear that while romance is OK, it's not my strong suit and I'm not super comfortable reading/writing romance. I would be more than happy if someone wanted to lead that section though. I don't want romance to be excluded here

Goals/expectations/commitment: Not expecting you to be online 24/7 (especially starting out since it will be a super small group!) but want people who will be able to be consistent and semi-active in the space and just see where it goes!

Writing/experience level: anyone truly willing to put in the work improving writing skill and connecting with others

Meeting place: Discord! Hoping for fortnightly checkups to see progress in writing goals

Max size: ~10 or so active members to start

Where I'm at with my projects currently: two projects in the brainstorming stage (YA political fantasy fiction & YA magical school fantasy fiction) with some written scenes. I haven't written creatively for several years after graduating with a Creative Writing BA ;-; I got so burnt out but I want to get back in to it and meet others who are starting out too!

EDIT: there's so much more interest than we thought and I haven't had the time to respond to all of the DMs! Apologies if I haven't gotten back to you but we're at ~25+ members already so I'm starting to slow down a bit with the invites. If we're still accepting new members in the future, I'll be in touch! Thank you so much for your interest!

A bounty hunter assembles a strange team to hunt a skinwalker (rate my prologue).

Act I Kyle Krane.

-Aw, come on man! Why won’t you give me that bounty? I asked, clearly frustrated.
-Because you need a team of four to claim it.
-WHY?! I asked again, frustrated even more.
-So people like you won’t claim every single one. He responded, finally giving me the reason.
-So you’re saying I'm too good for my job? I asked mockingly.
-No… ah! just go to hell!
-We could help!
Some random girl offering me help? Normally I wouldn't even consider it, but well I don't have much of a choice. I went up to her table, she was sitting with 2 other guys playing cards. I think it was some kind of poker, I don't know… She had a white hoodie and a damaged scarf. She was wearing a weird wooden mask with a scar on it and blank dark eyeholes. On her belt there were two daggers. She looked like an assassin, maybe I could use her. There was a tank too, he looked very solid. Strong armor, massive hammer under his hands. Yeah he could be a help. Then there was this guy, he was giving out cards. I don’t know much about him, but that's a complete team of four. I guess that means I get the job after all
-You think you have what it takes to be a bounty hunter? To fight mythical creatures? I asked
-Do you? Tank responded with his deep voice
-Hey bar-man give me that bounty I have the team! I screamed excitedly.
-Alright boys! I started my speech.
-Ahem…! The assassin girl looked at me like I committed a crime.
-And ladies. It’s gonna be a tough mission so i don’t want anybody backing down alright? Let’s start with your names and a little something about you. I’ll start. My name is Kyle Krane, and I’m a bounty hunter. I hunt mythical creatures. -I said trying to get to know them
-I guess i’ll go next. The girl calmly said. I’m an assassin. I also hunt, but people, for money.
My name’s Ashley, Ashley Ravenwood.
-Wait aren’t you the girl whose parents died from the hands of a bloody murderer in the Ironwalls? I asked curious.
-Yes, I don’t wanna talk about it
-I’m a tank, the name is Thorne Kade… - Said very calmly
-That’s it, nothing else you wanna tell? - I asked, trying to get him to open a bit more.
-I’m Kael Virelli. I used to work at a circus place in the Adzaran Empire. But Well… Let’s just say I got fired.
-Alright, So the bounty is a classic skinwalker, it lives in the forest north-west from here. I presented the bounty to my companions.
-I’m sorry. What's a skinwalker? Ashley asked looking at me like she didn’t just ask the dumbest question in the world.
-A skinwalker is a witch that can morph into other creatures using its skin and rituals. I answered her as fast as I could.
-Well let’s get going before it’s too late, Oh and I shotgun the kill. Said our tank.

Let me know what you think!

Need help writing my story

Hey everyone! I'm working on an original sci-fi superhero series called The Void, and I'm looking for a co-writer to help bring it to life.

The premise: A corporation's enhancement chip program accidentally tears open a breach to another timeline — and creatures start crossing over. Now a fractured strike force is the last line of defense between humanity and total collapse, led by a man who doesn't realize he's spent his entire existence trying to stop the very destruction he caused.

It's got a Stranger Things meets The Boys tone — grounded characters, heavy themes, and a slow-burn mythology that ties back to a covert 1996 incident nobody was supposed to survive. The whole season builds toward a finale that completely recontextualizes everything you thought you knew about the lead character.

Young writer (23M) looking for writing pals

Hey guys! I love writing stories, primarily dark, emotional, character driven ones, and I’m on the hunt for new friends to talk about writing with. I don’t have a lot of people in my life who enjoy writing so sometimes it’s hard for them to relate to me on that subject.

My favorite authors are Joe Hill, Danya Kukafka, Rick Riordan, Brandon Sanderson, Isaac Asimov, CG Drews, and Stephen King. I’ve also been getting into RF Kaung and Emily Henry. Let me know if you’re interested!

PS - not looking for anything romantic, so please don’t ask lmao

Starting to write again after DV: Looking for supportive friendly types!

Hi, I'm a 35y/o female from Europe.

I've just started writing again after DA (my Substack: https://drsophienotsupply.substack.com/p/how-i-became-a-paid-writer-while?r=8o71b8)

I don't have many friends since leaving my abusive relationship, and I'd love to find a supportive community.

I have no idea how Substack works, but it seems to be the place to be for writers.

If you're over there and our interests align, I'd love to follow you and support each other remotely.

Bonus points if you're a journo/copywriter like me :)

Looking for fantasy/romantasy writing friends 🌙 (and I built us a little home)

I'm a 30-something fantasy writer in Toronto. I've been deep in my book for about a year and a half now, mostly on my own, and I finally hit the point where I just wanted people to write alongside!

The book: a gothic romantasy called Shadows of the House, about a dhampir enforcer tangled up in vampire court politics. Blood debts, shaky loyalties, a main character who's incredible at her job and a disaster at trusting anyone. It leans more intrigue than romance. I'm deep in the drafting trenches and would love people to spiral about it with.

I kept hunting for a writing community that actually fit fantasy, romantasy, and romance writers. Somewhere social and supportive that wasn't a critique grind or a class. I couldn't find it, so I made it! It's called Feral Writing Society, it's free, and the doors just opened.

What's inside:

  • Coworking sessions so you're drafting with company, not alone at 11pm
  • A book club picking its very first read soon (come vote on it!)
  • Trope talk for everyone who needs to discuss enemies-to-lovers at length
  • A corner for spiraling about your WIP where nobody's going to workshop you into the ground

The vibe is unhinged but supportive. I believe in taking writing seriously but not ourselves!

If you write in these genres and you've been wanting writing company, drop a comment or send me a DM and I'll send you the Circle community where we hang out! 💚

Older Grad Student Looking for Multi-Genre Writing Groups

Hello. My name is Basil (41f) and I am based out of southern Colorado. I recently graduated with a BA in English/Creative Writing and am currently enrolled in an MFA program.

I have experience in workshopping and creative writing tutoring, plus a tiny smidge of publishing experience. (For what it’s worth, I will add that several pieces I consulted on in undergrad went on to be published in lit mags.)

What I am looking for is accountability and people to bounce ideas off of in an environment that is geared towards professionalism and the intent to publish. I am also open to workshopping if a foundation of trust can eventually be established.

There are some genres I am not personally interested in, but I am capable of engaging with works outside my comfort zone. For my own writing, I dabble in many genres. I read a lot of horror and sci-fi, but my own works tends to lean towards humor and absurdism. I am also 15,000 words into my first novel, a speculative fiction story.

If any of this sounds like it might be a good fit for you or your writing group, please let me know in the comments or via DM.

Thanks!

Looking for your new writing tribe? Grab a coffee and join The Writer's Nook! ☕️📚

Hey everyone!

Writing can be an incredibly solitary gig, so I recently put together a Discord server called The Writer's Nook. We're building a cozy, supportive community for writers to connect, share ideas, and keep each other sane through the drafting process.

A little about me: I write romance and dark romance, and I'm currently mapping out the beautiful madness of a 10-part series! You can usually find me fueled by a serious black coffee addiction and blasting classical music to get words on the page. When the burnout inevitably hits, I'm a huge advocate for taking nature breaks and hiking to reset the brain.

Whether you're outlining your first novel, tackling Kindle Unlimited algorithms, or deep in the trenches of a massive series, you're welcome here.

What to expect in The Writer's Nook:

  • Goal Tracking & Accountability: Let's celebrate those daily word counts and gently nudge each other past writer's block.
  • Plotting & Brainstorming: Stuck in a plot hole? We'd love to help you dig your way out.
  • Off-Topic Chatter: From our favorite coffee roasts to our best strategies for avoiding burnout and finding inspiration.

We’d absolutely love to have more voices in the mix. If you’re looking for a low-pressure place to make friends, share your wins, and talk craft, this is it.

Skill based writing matchup

I am running a (free) critique partner matchup. Here’s the link to the google forms to join.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfdPndLX25AjcV6U9bYqOmodRWxI6d-kE0uxT-jIj3ycwbe9g/viewform

How it works: Fill out the form with a 2000 word sample and a short blurb about your project, and we will match you with up to 3 other writers. What’s different about this matchup compared to others is that instead of being based on genre, it’s based primarily on ability, to assure you’re matched to people at a similar writing level. However, you can still opt to avoid genres you’re not interested in reading.

Please try to fill out as much of the form as possible to get the best matchup! Deadline is Thursday July 2nd. Age limit is 18+. ABSOLUTELY NO AI assistance allowed in either writing or critiquing. EVERYONE CAN TELL!

  • Genre/s: Any
  • Goals/expectations/commitment: Please reciprocate. If you decide to drop out that’s fine, but don’t do so after people have already put time into reading your work.
  • Writing/experience level: Intermediate to advanced. Must have at least 25k words of completed writing
  • Meeting place: Up to group. Matchups will go out via email.
  • Max size: 4 per group

(26F) Looking For Beginner Writers Like Myself!

Hai, my name is Aria and I'm looking to find friends around my age to bounce ideas off of! Ive written off and on throughout my life and I've really picked it up this time but I am rusty so bare with me.

I'm looking for friends that are writing in the dark supernatural, romantasy genres.

Fair warning my bare bones and first drafts will be based off/a fan fiction of whatever I'm hyperfixated on at the time. It's unhinged but it's simply the only way it's getting done lmao

Comment or message me here if you're interested in vibing! LGBT, POC, second language english speakers welcome! :]

Variety in writing styles?

Hi there!

I’m pretty new to writing, a little over a year, and I was wondering for you guys personally how many projects you work on at one time. I’ve found that I tend to stay most productive when I’m working on several things at once, for instance I started last year with a western novel I’ve been learning and redrafting and refining and all that, but along the way I’ve made little forays into a sci-fi short story, a psychological horror short story, a character drama, and recently been working on a longer-form sci-fi book and delving into poetry.

For reference, I do tend to do this with everything. I’m a musician too, and I often work best bouncing between metal (my home base) and rock (similar) and then just various other things; folk, gypsy jazz, classical, progressive stuff, funk, Latin, whatever. And when I consume media I do the same thing, I’ll read like 9 different novels and stories alongside each other or watch 3 or 4 TV series and so on. I just find that when I’m not in the mood for a particular style, forcing myself to work on it produces only slop, while not working on it at all kinda kills my motivation and creativity, so pivoting into other related projects helps me keep going and practicing while still staying alert and fresh. Surprisingly I don’t have a hard time maintaining focus in general lmao

Anyone else do this or am I an oddity?

How many characters is too many to tell a story through?

I’ll keep it short as the plot isn’t as important as the delivery device right now.

That plot device is a weathered journal passed from person to person and sometimes back to a previous person. Overall I ended up with 17 authors of the journal over the years and about 10 tertiary characters that exist in the story but never directly wrote in the journal.

So 27 characters total.

I don’t want to just cut everyone’s voice out to suddenly only have 3 or 4 telling the story so it’s easier for the reader, but I understand that I have to do something to assist with the pacing and overall character list.

Is there like a magic number writers avoid going above, or is there a ratio of understandable swaps?

Need a writing accountability buddy lol

Hi there! You can tell from the title, I'm a writer and I'd love to text someone in the same boat as me. I love reading, listening to music(generally pop) and my favorite games are Minecraft and Overcooked 2!

My favorite series until now has been The school for good and evil, though Artemis Fowl and ACOTAR come a close second.

I've had a major reading slump since I got into uni which I'm hoping to recover from this summer and if I had to recommend a standalone book to you, it would be You Deserve Eachother (its about two fiances who hate eachother and it is such an amazing romcom lol)

I'm open to recommendations though! And I'd love to fangirl over book series if we've both read them :)

But thats all for now, I'd prefer to talk to people 20+ and somewhat near my age.

Thank you for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!

i write essays and letters ❤︎ i'd love to share my written world with another soul !!

hello! i often pour my heart out into letters and essays but i don't really have a friend to share my writings with each time i finish one :") a little bit about my writing style is that i often write in very flowery prose, and i sometimes take on a philosophical lens in my pieces as well.

i particularly enjoy when my readers highlight which lines stood out to them emotionally, or really just give me feedback on how the piece resonated with them or impacted them.

we could swap writings!! a little disclaimer though i write VERY frequently, and i currently have piles of essays and letters sitting in my drafts >_< i just finished one today as well, and i really yearn for someone to pore over them line by line ❤︎

the central themes i touch on are love, sadness, selfhood, identity and more! i often use a lot of imagery in my writings as well :)

please connect with me!!

Writing server on discord if you wanna join

Hi, I made a post yesterday asking if anyone wanted to get in contact and share our writing. I have had some interest and have descided to create a discord server for that purpose. I am currently writing a fantasy, going into dark fantasy that focases a lot on my charcters mental issues, self hatred, and relationships throughout the story. I would love to find some people who are interested in this genre that I am working on, but any genre is welcome, including poetry if you'd like. The server will be for discussing ideas, sharing our work for encouragement and advice. If you are interested let me know and I will send you the link, just let me know what genres you write and why you'd like to join. I want a very small server, less than 20 people preferably so it's just easier and doesn't get to busy.
