XGIMI Titan Noir Max: DBLE (dynamic laser dimming) confirmed NOT WORKING on some units on V1.2.54

The "Noir" in Titan Noir Max is carried by three things: the dual iris, the native contrast, and DBLE — the dynamic laser dimming that gets you from 10,000:1 native to the advertised 100,000:1 dynamic. On my unit, one of those three is a toggle connected to a menu animation and nothing else.

I can prove it. And I need your help figuring out how widespread it is.

First: why "I toggled it and saw nothing" is worthless evidence

Before anyone grabs a pitchfork — or worse, comments "works on my machine" after a five-second glance — you need to know that DBLE has **documented soft modes that are by design, not the bug:**

- **Dynamic iris on** → DBLE runs very lightly or not at all. They don't fight each other; DBLE yields.
- **Low laser power** → almost zero dimming headroom left. At laser 3, DBLE is effectively neutralized before it starts.
- **f/7.0 iris** → native contrast is already maxed, so DBLE intervenes softly on purpose.
- The X-Vision chip needs **a few seconds of playing content** to analyze a scene before it acts. A paused frame proves nothing.

If you tested at laser 3, f/7, dynamic iris on — congratulations, you tested the feature in the exact configuration where it's designed to do nothing. I did that too at first. That's not the bug.

## So I brought receipts

I shot professionally for years, so when eyeballing failed me I did what you do: locked camera, controlled test.

**Config:** manual iris f/2.0, laser 10, dynamic iris OFF — maximum dimming headroom, maximum DBLE authority. Black clipping pattern (~99% black frame with gray steps), *playing*, menu closed, 5+ seconds of settle before each capture.

**Camera:** fully locked manual exposure. 1/120 shutter, ISO 100, fixed white balance. The camera cannot lie about a change it's not allowed to compensate for.

**Result — mean pixel values per patch, DBLE on vs off:**

Patch DBLE ON DBLE OFF Delta
255 188.5 185.8 +1.5%
100 117.1 115.5 +1.3%
50 48.4 47.9 +0.9%
45 42.1 41.6 +1.1%
40 38.9 39.1 −0.6%
Black floor 2.00 2.00 0.0%

Every value is inside measurement noise. For reference, a *working* DBLE on this frame should crush those near-black steps by huge margins (the laser dims ~3.5x on real content per reviewer measurements) and actually **raise** the 255 patch, because the gamma compensation lifts highlights while the laser dims. One reviewer measured exactly that on pre-release firmware 1.2.36 — DBLE pushed dynamic contrast past **80,000:1** at a comparable iris setting.

The feature worked before our units shipped. On V1.2.54, on my unit: nothing moves. Factory reset already done. No change.

## It's not just me — and it's not everyone

- Backers in the **US, Spain, Italy, and France** reporting the identical dead toggle on V1.2.54
- Multiple reports that the **Black Level Tuning slider produces identical output at min and max**
- At least one backer with a **confirmed working unit** — so this is a firmware or batch split, not a universal defect
- And the spicy one: XGIMI support told an EU backer his unit

> "could be a beta unit"

...which is quite a sentence to say to a paying customer, and if early Kickstarter units actually shipped with beta provisioning, that deserves an official statement.

## Where this stands

Support ticket filed with serial number, full methodology, and repro steps. The Kickstarter thread is collecting data points. To be fair to XGIMI: when the community flagged the anti-RBE issue, they shipped a fix via OTA fast. They can move when the data is clean. So let's hand them clean data.

## If you own a TNM, this takes two minutes

  1. **Firmware version** (Settings → About)
  2. **Source + region** (Kickstarter or retail, US/EU/UK/other)
  3. **The test:** f/2.0, laser 10, dynamic iris off, letterboxed dark scene *playing* — do the black bars visibly deepen when you toggle DBLE?
  4. **If broken:** does the Black Level Tuning slider do anything at min vs. max?

For the record: this projector is otherwise the best thing I've ever pointed at a screen, and the native contrast claims are real. That's exactly why I want the headline dynamic feature we all paid for actually working.

Will update as data comes in and as XGIMI responds.

**TL;DR:** DBLE is measurably dead on some Titan Noir Max units on V1.2.54 — zero laser modulation, zero gamma lift, verified with locked-exposure camera in the max-authority config. Some units work. Drop your firmware + test result below so we can map the split.

How to transfer files from Windows 11 PC to Xgimi Elfin, USB port not working :(

Hi all

Unfortunately it seems like my USB port has stopped working and I need to transfer some files to the projector. Transfer files, not stream.

I've tried using Send Files to TV which worked a few years ago but doesn't any more for some reason. I would love to get the official Android Quick Share app to work, but on my PC I can't see the projector and don't see a setting to make it visible.

Any ideas?

Thanks :)

TNM unstable image

Something I'm noticing with my TNM is almost like flickering or unstable pixels with static images. When browsing the ps5 game catalog, the box art pictures are unstable and flicker and molt together in several spots.

I have videos of it but I don't know how to add them to reddit..... Actually the longer I look at it... The more it seems like it's literally everywhere.

Edit: added comments with videos. The distortion you can see and pixel flickering is not because I'm recording with a camera, it's actually less severe being captured than I'm seeing with the naked eye.

Edit 2: I hot swapped my whole configuration from a valerion VisionMaster Pro2 that wasn't having display issues, and the TNM is on the latest firmware.

Xgimi Halo (Original) Wi-Fi dropping every 5 minutes

In Nov 2024 I bought a Halo 2nd hand with no issues until recently where I have had no end of issues. The WiFi disconnects and reconnects. I had issues from a year ago where it would disconnect for 10 seconds but once a night. Now It can go through phases of connection and disconnect every other second (no exaggeration). Has anyone any ideas? There has to be a way for Xgimi to sort this out. Not a cheap device!!!!!

How does TNM (kickstarter) guarantee work?

Hey there, got my TNM this Tuesday to Germany.

Totally disappointed but I do realize this is because of my false expectations and too little informing.. I am absolutely not a projector nerd…

Well I bought it to watch Germany and other World Cup matches outside (thought it is bright enough to create a good picture in the evening when Sun is low, weather cloudy and I have some shade, but I was very wrong, barely a better picture than my horizon pro.. also on my cheap esmart Amazon screen, not really better.. now I know it is made mostly for home cinema rooms..

So I am going to sell it.. but how does Transer of guarantee etc work?

Titan Noir Max Image Issues

Just plugged it in and it looks like there is either something on a lens or an issue with the display chip? 2 very obvious spots in the center of the image that appear like rainbow circles and then 2 dark spots on the top right. I’ve already cleaned the front glass just incase so it has to be internal.

Not sure how to link an image in a post here to show the issue but it’s extremely noticeable even while watching content.

Going to have to contact support and see what to do here, but not a great first impression.

Horizon 20 DLP Update Potential Mistakes

It seems to have come to my attention and maybe a few others but the customer service team responsible for sending out the DLP Update for Horizon 20 series may be sending the wrong version. V5.4.4 is not the new version if I am correct. Below is the message from customer service I received when asking for the update:

Hi there—thanks for reaching out. Here’s information on updating the DLP firmware for your XGIMI Horizon 20 Base Model:

  1. Ensure System Version: Before proceeding with the DLP update, make sure your system version is V1.2.106. If your system version is higher, you may need to downgrade it first.
  2. Download the DLP Firmware:
    • Download the DLP firmware update file from this link: Horizon 20 - V5.4.4 The file is named "OpticalEngineImg_5.4.4.zip".
  3. Prepare a USB Drive:
    • Format a USB flash drive to FAT32.
    • Place the downloaded zip file directly in the root directory of the USB drive. Do not unzip the file.
  4. Install the Update:
    • Insert the USB drive into the projector's USB 3.0 port (the blue port).
    • Wait for the update pop-up window to appear and follow the instructions to confirm and start the update.
    • The update process will take approximately 15 to 30 minutes. During this time, the projector may display a black screen, and the fan will run at high speed, which is normal.
    • Once the update is complete, the projector will automatically restart and return to the home screen.

Was könnt ihr mir da empfehlen? Vielen dank für die Hilfe!

Update for Horizon 20 series is here !

News found on the official page of Xgimi on Facebook :

"Horizon 20 Series Firmware Update — Now Available. 🎬

Thank you for your patience. Here's what's ready:

Cinematic Enhancements: Manual Filmmaker Mode + HGiG for better gaming visuals

Smart Projection Features: Auto Keystone, Auto Focus, Screen Alignment, Eye Protection, Brightness Adaptation (even after lens shift)

Connectivity: Bluetooth discoverability toggle for easier pairing

All features are fully tested and live. Update now and enjoy the upgrade."

So according to this post, it should be rolling out right now for the OTA update.

There was indication that a USB update was needed for everything related to the chip, I haven't seen any news about that or if it's included in the OTA update but it doesn't seems to be listed in the point above.

We will see.

For those who are able to install it and test, please let me know what you think about it.

Edit: 01/07 New message from Xgimi on the Horizon group on Facebook with detailed instructions on the update :

OTA and DLP Upgrade Notice - HORIZON 20 Series To HORIZON 20 Series Users:

We sincerely appreciate your patience throughout this process!

The official OTA system upgrade to version V1.4.163 has commenced. This update will be rolled out gradually starting today until July 6th.

If you see a pop-up notification on your device after powering it on, it means the update has been delivered. You can proceed with either of the following methods:

  1. Wait for Automatic Installation

The update is configured to install silently in the background. Once completed, your system will automatically update to the new version the next time you restart your device.

  1. Update Manually

If you prefer to update manually, please follow these steps: a. Navigate to: Settings -> System -> About -> System Update.

b. Wait on the "Checking for update" screen.

c. When the screen displays "System update ready", click "Restart now" on the right.

d. The update will begin. Please wait for 3 to 10 minutes. During this time, the projector screen will be black, and the fan will be running.

e. The system will automatically restart and enter the home page.

f. You can verify the system version by navigating to: Settings -> System -> About -> Software Version. If the version number is V1.4.163, the update was successful.

Key Updates in This OTA Version:

Image Mode: Added ISF mode; supports manual switching to Filmmaker Mode.

Gaming: Added HGiG function (available only with HDR signals).

Bluetooth: Added Bluetooth Discoverable on/off switch.

Lens Shift: Supports Auto Focus and Auto Image Correction after Lens Shift.

Other Experience Optimizations.

DLP Firmware Upgrade (via USB Installation): The following updates require installation via USB and are not available through OTA push:

  • Added Anti-RBE (Rainbow Effect Reduction) feature

  • Fixed screen tearing

  • Enhanced DBLE (Dynamic Black Level Enhancement)

To obtain the DLP firmware upgrade tutorial, please ensure your device has already been updated to version V1.4.163, then contact customer support at advanced-support@xgimi.com with a screenshot of the version confirmation and your device's SN."

So now we know everything is here and the DLP update (via USB) need to contact Xgimi support via mail to get the right file

Mogo 4 Laser fan rattle sound

Just got Mogo 4 laser from amazon, but you can hear some rattling clicking sound when it’s on, it’s like something is hitting the metal body slightly. It is not really loud but when close to it you can hear it.

Anyone experienced something similar? I’m thinking about returning and ordering again.

Possible TNM on the Way

Checked my UPS account (Dashboard). Incoming shipment shows something coming from Cainiao Supply Chain Uslaxc. No other details as of yet (no weight, size of package), but label created. I'm not expecting anything else other than TNM. So I'm assuming this could be it. I'm backer #mid-1900's and located in DFW area, Texas.

Update: Pledgebox just confirmed shipping of my items TNM and floor stand. So, it's happening.

Anker Nebula P1 vs XGIMI Halo+ for room-to-room use, semi-bright rooms, 750€ budget

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to choose between the Anker Nebula P1 and the XGIMI Halo+ / Halo+ GTV.

I’m currently in Germany and my budget is around 750€. After buying it, I will probably take the projector to another country, so warranty/service support may be difficult or impossible for me to use later. Because of that, reliability and long-term durability are important.

My use case:
\- Mostly movies, Netflix, YouTube
\- Indoor home use
\- I want to move it from room to room
\- Sometimes I may use it on a balcony or in a semi-bright environment
\- Brightness is important to me
\- Easy setup is important: autofocus, auto keystone, etc.
\- Built-in sound is a plus
\- Built-in battery would be nice, but not absolutely necessary
\- 1080p is enough

The two main options I’m considering:

  1. Anker Nebula P1
    Pros for me:
\- Brighter than many portable projectors
\- Detachable speakers look very useful
\- Google TV / Netflix support
\- Seems like a nice all-in-one movie night package

Cons:
\- No built-in battery for the projector
\- Bigger and less backpack-friendly than Halo+
\- I’m not sure about long-term reliability if I can’t use warranty later

  1. XGIMI Halo+ / Halo+ GTV
    Pros for me:
    \- Built-in battery
\- More portable and easier to carry around
\- Good brightness for a portable projector
    \- Good automatic setup features
    \- More backpack-friendly

Cons:
\- Built-in sound seems weaker than Nebula P1
\- I’m not sure if it is bright enough for semi-bright rooms
\- I’m also not sure about reliability/warranty if I take it to another country

My question:
Between Anker Nebula P1 and XGIMI Halo+, which one would you choose for my use case?

Also, is there a better alternative around 750€ in Germany? I care most about brightness, reliability, easy setup, and moving it from room to room. I don’t need 4K; good 1080p is enough.

Display issues with my Horizon Ultra

Hi, community,

I've had the Horizon Ultra for a few months now, and I'm actually really happy with it.

However, for the past couple of weeks, I've been experiencing strange screen tearing—the image flickers occasionally, and/or objects appear cut off. It's really weird—is this normal, or is there a defect?

Then it stops again and doesn't happen for several shows or movies.

This also happens when my NVIDIA Shield is connected.

Ambient light and lumens

Every time someone posts a picture of a laser projector for their living room half the comments are just “turn off your lights bro" or "get better curtains". Like yes, obviously a blacked-out room is ideal. But some of us living rooms that aren’t dedicated home theaters.

I’ve been using the Horizon 20 Max and it does 5700 ISO lumens and for me the ambient light situation is so much better than I expected going in. Afternoon light coming in through the curtains it might be sometimes a little washed out but still very watchable. Not calibration session quality obviously, but for casual viewing, sports, kids stuff in the background etc it is totally fine.

Moreover, instead of a TV, the 120” image changes how you actually use a living room space, even if the conditions aren’t perfect. And when you want the real experience you just dim the lights a bit.

Lets say you have a good quality screen. What lumen threshold do people here actually find acceptable for a semi lit room? Is 5700 ISO lumens enough for you? At what point it would make even bigger difference? 7000 ISO lumens?
