Best areas/Buildings/Properties to rent

My husband and I will be relocating to the York area from Colorado at the end of August for his job. I am looking for any recommendations of where to live or avoid living in the York/Lancaster area, specific properties or companies to rent with, really any and all suggestions are welcome. We are in our mid 30’s with no kids and love the outdoors. My husband does not mind a little bit of a commute but ideally within 30-45 mins of his office which is located just southwest of downtown York. We are also looking for an area that is convenient for grocery shopping/coffee shop/restaurants within a short driving distance if possible. Thanks in advance!

Looking for new friends. 38m

Hey everyone. I'm a 38-year-old guy from the Harrisburg area looking to meet some new people and hopefully make a few genuine friends. I've lived in Central PA my whole life, but making friends as an adult is a lot harder than I expected.

A little about me: I'm a professional musician and a massage therapist, I'm really into personal growth and self-improvement, and I'm working on getting healthier and back into shape. I'm just looking for good people to hang out with—guys or women, somewhere around my age.

I'd be up for grabbing coffee, trying a new restaurant, going for a walk or hike, checking out local events, or just having a good conversation.

If you're around Harrisburg, York, or Lancaster and you're looking to expand your circle too, feel free to send me a message.

York PA vs. Hereford Zone

Hello!

My family is relocating to somewhere roughly 30- 60 min south of Harrisburg. We have kids in public schools (middle and high school.) I am not as familiar w/ the area as I'd like to be and have some general questions. I have heard great things about living in Northern Baltimore County (Hereford Zone,) and little about great places to live outside of Harrisburg in PA aside from Mechanicsburg, Lititz, Hershey. None of those spots geographically appeal to me too much- and all seem like insanely high real estate prices for tiny lot sizes. Our budget is up to 1.4.

I recently saw a home for sale in York (Suburban York Schools) for around $800K. The same home in a town like Monkton, Freeland or Sparks MD would be $1.2 easily. What am I missing here, in the vast difference between the cost to live in each area? According to Niche.com... York Suburan Highschool ranks just as highly. Is it the town itself?

Thank you for any insider feedback to point me in one direction.

Found scared chihuahua dog (4th of July)

Trotting east down country club road, walked right up to us in our driveway. No collar, friendly, jumped right into our car as we were taking our kiddo out of the car. Please repost and spread. We really can’t shelter due to cats.

24/7 gyms

Hi! Moving to the area from the northeast US in the fall. Looking for the best 24 hour gym that’s clean and not creepy for a female to work out in early am (4:30ish). Looking for something with enough squat racks, plate loaded equipment, turf, sleds, boxes, etc. Needs to be in York, so I can head to work right after.

Also looking for a gym for CrossFit/hyrox training - found Crossfit Collective in Lancaster - any reviews on that gym?

Greenspring Apartments

My boyfriend lives here and I'm often shocked at their water setup.

An entire building shares water in the sense the overall buildings cost is split evenly among residents no matter if you have 1 person in your home or 5.

On top of that, if you're showering and someone else decides to in another apartment, your water goes scalding hot or freezing cold. So forget a relaxing shower.

For the monthly cost, I just can't fathom why anyone lives there. He's locked into his lease but is trying to move as soon as he can.

outdoor living space

Just wrapped up this custom outdoor living space, and we're really proud of how it turned out.

This project included:

• Full masonry fireplace with chimney

• Built-in firewood storage on both sides

• TimberTech DrySpace under-deck drainage system

• Built-in stainless steel grill and storage cabinets

• Custom concrete countertops

• Stone veneer finishes throughout

• Low-voltage accent lighting

• pizza oven

A lot of planning went into making this space both functional and built to last. Every detail was designed to create an outdoor area that feels just as comfortable and usable as the inside of the home.

What would you add to an outdoor living space like this?

Serious question for the public

So I notice that at a grocery store I go to people will put the baskets they use around the store instead of putting them where they got it in front of the store or I’ll hear them ask the cashier where to put it I’m confused whether this is laziness or lack of common sense and if it’s the latter they need to do better instead of saying we as a generation need to have better common sense

Hunting for a kiddie pool?

We spent half the day just looking for something to wade in. Everywhere is sold out. We finally found one at Rose’s in Manchester. We were tipped off by a guy at Ace Hardware. There were a few left and a ton of pool floaties and other odds and ends. Sprinkler stuff and other inflatables for kids and such. Just a lil PSA!

Have a happy and safe 4th!

Boat rentals?

Where is the closest place to York city to rent kayaks or rowboats today? Just finished a four-hour drive to get here, so hoping to spend as little time in the car for water access as possible. Thanks!

In desperate need of an AC

As the title says, I’m in desperate need of an AC as my upstairs room is boiling in this heat and I can’t stand to be up there for more than an hour at a time, but don’t have the money to buy a brand new AC unit. If anyone is selling one I can give you 50-60 in cash! I’ve tried marketplace but I’m not getting any responses and would like to get one sooner rather than later! If anyone does please comment or message me it would be greatly appreciated!!
