Crashes are terrible to hear about, and just as bad to experience. So here is a rare semi fortune one my best friend had that always cracked him up.
First off he is ok. I remember it took him about a three weeks to mostly recover. This is how he described it.
He was riding alone through wooded roads from his GF house headed home. And it was just before sunset which is a dangerous time to ride if you are headed west. Which he was. He lets the ride get too good for him.
He noticed the doe sprint hopping across the road a second too late. He clipped her and came off road and went over his bars about 40 ft before landing face first in the grass off-road then tumbling another 20 yards which knocked him out for about half hour. Just long enough for the sun to completely set.
He was lying face up under a highway lamppost that had just turned on. When he first hit he must have struck a rock dead center of his visor which shattered it in a radiative pattern spreading from point of impact. It stayed together but was ruined.
When he woke up his first thought with a weird pattern of cracks in this vision in the dark with a strong illumination from a lamppost directly over him was “I can see the light!…Oh wait. I’m in pain. I’m alive. Well shit.” He made it back to his GFs house all bloody and said. “I love you, can take me to the ER?” She married him a few months later but thought he was gonna die he was so bloody.
He always thought it was funny. She did not.
He was always lucky. Good thing he always wore a full helmet.
