Pine for platforms?

I'm currently building an enclosure for a dwarf hamster following Victoria Raechel's instructions and we are now building platforms for the inside. Can I use untreated pine for them? I live in a very small rural town and only have access to pine.

So many spring tails!

This paludarium is a new build that ended up forgotten for a little when the end of school year craziness set in. There's no water flow and only serpa design "recipe" substrate for the plants, topsoil in bags under the sand cap in the water and clippings from my house plants. I did take a little moss from outside so that's where I'm assuming they came from. I haven't dug around the the substrate so I don't know if they're in there too but there's hundreds on the drift wood and water surface.

Now that school is out for the summer I plan to finish the paludarium and get the water flowing in the waterfall. I'm assuming this will cause them to dissipate.

Why do they arrange themselves into circles on the surface? They rearrange themselves daily. So strange.

Samsung Dishwasher not draining

As the title says, our Samsung Dishwasher (DW80CG4051SR) stopped draining.

We disconnected the drain hose from under the sink to look for a clog there and can't see anything there.

We cleaned everything inside the dishwasher and didn't find anything there.

We pulled the dishwasher out to see if we could disconnect the drain hose from that end but there's no way to access it.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

It was only purchased in September so it may be under warranty still but a dishwasher is a luxury that turned into a necessity during the last week of school when we're both teachers and crazy busy 😭

Yay or nay for this enclosure?

My daughter decided she wants a hamster for her birthday. I've never had one before so it's research time. It will be a "teddy bear" hamster, the bigger one who lives alone. I still have a lot of research to do but the enclosure is where I'm starting.

Thanks!

(Shouldn't need to be said, but I'll be providing most of the care. She is going to be 11 so I know she will be gentle with it)

Is this enough water for shrimp?

I am working on this paludarium (36x18x12) and I would like to add neocaridina shrimp. It will be room temp (19C in winter and warmer in summer) and it is filtered with an eheim 2215 with a small pump to add to circulation. There is a waterfall. The water is only about 1 to about 2.5 inches deep. Will this be enough?

I only just started this and there's a lot of plants that need adding, above and below the water.

The light will be changed. My light gave out and this is temporary until I can grab another one from my classroom tomorrow.

What do you think?

Do I have to buy specific leaves for the bottom of my aquarium or can I collect some from outside? Are there any leaves I shouldn't use? We have poplar trees, mountain ash, and Aspen trees around our property.

I would like to drill a bulkhead but I just realised maybe I can't?!

(Excuse the state of the build and also excuse the fact that I don't have access to egg create)
