After making 0,78 M in last two days in China, Obsession officially grossed more than Elemental, soon it will overtake The Conjuring: Last Rites and become top-5 best grossing horror all-time and reach 500M.
Just like its great horror predecessors, Obsession will be a movie we still debate, find details, and rewatch in 50 years. The shining, Rosemary’s baby, The Thing etc. are still widely discussed and beloved today and I think the same will happen for Obsession. Aside from it being a viral cultural moment, it has one of the best lead performances in a horror movie ever. It also had top notch characters, writing, makeup and hair, supporting actors and soundtrack. It has that right blend of psychological madness, social discomfort, and dark paranormal force that it has become an instant classic. I would grab any Obsession merchandise now because it will probably be appreciated in the future. One more point is that the iconic still of freaky Nikki covered in blood reminds me of the iconic photo of Carrie drenched in blood at her prom.
Movies like eyes wide shut, Hereditary, the empty man, a dark song, etc. bonus if it features any sort of elite wealthy secret society.
