HBO Max app v7.8.0 fixes Apple TV app integration

The latest app update appears to fix the issue where shows and movies watched in HBO Max weren’t updating the “Continue Watching” section in the TV app on both tvOS and iOS. This had been an issue for the past several weeks.

If you’ve been experiencing this bug, update the app and see if it fixes the problem for you. I watched a few minutes of HoTD and it appears to be working properly.

Apple TV service outage

It appears the Apple TV streaming platform including continue watching plus general Apple TV app functionality, purchased content, etc. are currently experiencing an outage.

It’s clear that Apple is aware of the issue and are working to restore it as quickly as possible.

In the meantime, please avoid creating duplicate posts reporting your frustrations about the outage. If you’d like to discuss the issue or share updates, please do so in this thread. All other posts related to the outage will be deleted.

Yes, outages are frustrating, but there’s nothing the community here can do to speed up the fix. A little patience goes a long way, and hopefully all functionality will be back to normal soon.

We’ll update this thread if any official information becomes available.

EDIT: service is back up. All is well.

Friendly reminder for anyone running tvOS 27 beta

If you’re running tvOS 27 beta on your Apple TV and something weird happens, remember… you’re running beta software. That’s kind of the deal.

If you run into bugs, glitches, crashes or other unexpected behavior, your best options are:

  1. Report the issue directly to Apple using the Feedback assistant app
  2. Post in the r/tvosbeta sub where you can compare notes/troubleshoot with other beta testers

If you’re dealing with an Apple TV issue that isn’t specific to the beta, post it here in r/appletv and someone will help troubleshoot it. But if something strange happens while testing tvOS beta, it’s most likely a beta issue and there’s usually not much anyone here can do to fix it.

Thanks for understanding and happy testing!

While I wait for my B&N Criterion order to arrive, here’s the haul that started it all

This pic is from 2020. During a homebound pandemic, I decided to get back into collecting physical media after losing my bluray collection in a fire 12 years earlier. I’d been an admirer of Criterion for years and always appreciated the care they put into their releases, restorations, supplements and artwork. But strangely enough, I’d never actually bought one until the pandemic.

I saw many of these films in theaters as a college student in NYC during the late 90s/early 00s and they all represent so much of what made me fall in love with cinema. Do The Right Thing, The Thin Red Line, Topsy Turvy, Traffic, Being John Malkovich, Mulholland Dr. all fundamentally changed the way I thought about movies and storytelling as a whole.

Two of these are still sealed, of course. I won’t tell you which. But when I look at this picture (and my full collection), I’m grateful for Criterion. I always smile a bit when I see someone here post their very first haul because every collection has a beginning. This was mine. And yes, thanks to the sales, this innocent little stack has grown into something much harder to explain to my wallet.

Recent Pickups

These are from the Gruv Father’s Day, Prime Day, and Arrow 2 for $60 sales. I’ll probably pick up A few releases from the B&N 50% off Criterion and Arrow 50% off sales. I think I’ll be done with pickups for a while after that.

Apple TV Old Price Megathread

Apple raised the price, and now everyone’s on a treasure hunt. Instead of having a new post every time someone finds an Apple TV at the old price, let’s keep everything in one place.

If you find one, post:
• Store
• Location
• Price
• Online or in-store (include a link if found online)

This will make it much easier for everyone to see where the old pricing still exists.
