Album/Single Review: Trim - SC PRINCESS/Floor/GUAPO/CoconutWater

Trim is an artist artist that just appeared out of nowhere like a blade of grass from the concrete. And now before you can blink shes made the 2026 XXL Freshman cover. Interesting for sure. But okay I’ll bite, she has no album and so this EP is the best we can get for an actual sample size. Taking the GELO place of last years class, having almost no music out yet getting a placement on one of the most well known Hip-Hop lists of the year eh? Gotcha.
.

Trim sounds like a Nicki Minaj knock off incamt lie. And in 2026 we might need a Nicki replacement I won’t lie, but I’m not sure I like the imitation that seems to be happening here on SC PRINCESS. Trims raps are good enough, the flow and the rhyming itself, but lyrically doesn’t bring anything impressive. I mean it’s literally the same exact type of content you’d expect from Nicki which only makes the vocal and flow similarities stand out that much more. Bugatti has Trim talking about a Bugatti, her body and clothes. A theme that follows all 4 tracks here.
.

So I also decided since the EP was so short and mediocre I’d also check out Coconut Water and some other singles. Floor is solid enough, it brings the same elements of SC PRINCESS but drops the voice that sounded like Nicki and suddenly everything improved. It’s not great, but it’s solid for sure. GUAPO is hilarious because it’s the same exact melody and flow for the hook as the next song I’ll talk about which blew up, so I guess don’t give up lol. Trims big single that dropped this year and like her placement on the XXL list, seemed to bubble up out of nowhere. It’s a good song and for sure is much better than anything on SC PRINCESS. Trim dropped the Nicki Minaj impression here for some other voice doesn’t sound like any of the other songs Trims made, but that’s fine I suppose. It’s a good song and I see why it’s big, but not a song that’s blowing me away.
.

Trim has talent for sure, but I’d need her to find her own sound and identity before I can buy in. Especially because her push feels extremely unnatural to me. Maybe I’m wrong, but things don’t few organic, and using the same flow from GUAPO to Coconut Water is that kind of industry mindset stuff that’s popping red flags.

Album Review: Tierra Whack - WHACK’S MUSEUM

Ever since 2024s WORLD WIDE WHACK, I’ve been anticipating more music from Tierra Whack. Her skills were evident and I wanted to hear more. Here in 2026 shes given us WHACK’S MUSEUM, a great album that’s absolutely worth the wait, even if I still want more ha.
.

normally I don’t catch singles but I did happen to listen and react to WAX PAPER produced by Conductor Williams and loved it. It set high expectations for WHACK’S MUSEUM and Tierra Whack fully lived up to it. the start of the album is full throttle and takes a while into everything before the foot is let off the gas at all. WHACK JOB, WAX PAPER, BRAZILLIAN WAX, WIGGIDY WHACK, TOTEM & GODDA all bring major bar work from Tierra across beats straight from the dungeon. Easily my favorite run of songs and chunk of the album.
.

SIREN & CANDLE WAX are the first tracks that feel slightly calmer, but that’s not to say Tierra Whack isn’t absolutely attacking the beats, because she is. Her flow on CANDLE WAX specifically was amazing. These last few songs in the album are still all great, Tierras content and lyricism is top tier, they just don’t hit me quite as strong as that first 2/3. I’m talking about QUEENS CROWN, EAR WAX, TWO FIFTEEN & FLOWERS, yet these songs would standout as the best tracks on many MCs albums. That goes to show you the strength of this project.
.

Tierra Whack delivered with one of the strongest albums of the year so far with WHACK’S MUSEUM! I wish there was more and we didn’t have to wait so long for it, but it’s all worth it. This is a must listen to album this year and one that’ll be tough to beat!

Album Review: Pastelle Records - Vol. 2… Pastelle Is The Future

Earlier this year Pastelle Records released the collaboration album Vol. 1… The World Is Yours, a great album. Well Pastelle Records is back with Vol. 2… Pastelle Is The Future, an album that brings back many of the names from Vol. 1 and arguably raises the bar. Let’s talk about it!
.

Like I said, Vol. 1 was a great album and I really enjoyed it, but there’s something about Vol. 2 here that feels leveled up just a bit. Vol. 1 still had a few songs I wasn’t as into although solid. Whether that be the beat or the MCs, but I didn’t find those moments here on Vol. 2. Similarly to the last album, the names here are high caliber and brought the heat to match. Panamera P, Rufus Sims, Hunnaloe, Jose Franco SSW, Vic Spencer, Ju Jilla, Tru Foe, 500, A1, Papo2oo4 and more notable MCs fill the tracklist front to back.
.

This isn’t an album I’d skip around personally, but I’ll still highlight some of my favorite songs. Dreams Like Mine, Macho Man & Product Of My Blick are all good songs and start the album off string, but Pipe Dreams is the first song I fell in love with on here. Something about that beat takes me back in time and Vic Spencer, Panamera P and 500 delivered on it excellently. 500 followed it up with another standout with Mild Sauce Extra, that beat just knocks in the right kind of gentle way and 500 hits his flow accordingly. Class Clowns and Money Drugs Hoes back to back makes for one of the best moments on the album and last but not least to mention is the BhramaBull produced Corner Store Music. Similarly to Class Clown & Money Drugs Hoes has some of my favorite current MCs all together and is hard to miss with.
.

Pastelle Records is on a run! As long as they keep putting together high caliber talent like this, success will follow. If you haven’t, check out Vol. 1 and then run up Vol. 2. Then dig into each artist here, because each one brings heat on their own!

Album Review: Dezit & A Producer Named 2 - Beats, Wines & Spirits

Beats, Wines & Spirits is an album that dropped today from the rapper Dezit and producer A Producer Named 2. And I’ve been fortunate enough to have early access for a while so I could talk about the album day 1! I’ve caught quite a bit from A Producer Named 2 in the last couple months, while Dezit is new to me and coming out of the Bronx. But I had faith this would be good from the elements involved. And I was right!
.

This album brings a great vibe throughout, a great match for the theme of the album. Sometime, Young Man & All Night all bring a soulful and elegant sound that Dezit meshes with well. Now Show brings a bit more of a modern vibe that’s bouncy and laid back, more in the lifestyle and luxury rap lane and it works well not only as its own track but as a break in the flow of the album. Before getting back into the classic and classy Hip-Hop style.
.

Apply is a favorite track and one that starts out with a spark, “for the Earth Wind and Fire, we’re trying to reach for the sky”. Followed by Settle Down, another standout track that has Dezit talking about meeting his girl and settling down. If you’re in tune with A Producer Named 2 and his peers, than this album will have some familiar names featured. Guys like AceWonda, 5’4EvEryDaY, J-Mal & even the legendary Stretch Money all deliver great features worthy of the hype behind their names. Extension with J-Mal is one of the songs here that breaks the mold, getting dark and ominous, one of my favorite songs here. Similarly with the Got Action (Remix) featuring Stretch Money. I love the vibe of the album but these couple of switch ups help bring everything together with a balance.
.

This was a great album, both Dezit and A Producer Named 2 brought their A games to the project and it pays off. There’s an uplifting and positive feel that extends the album, with enough to mix things up at the same time. Check out Beats, Wines & Spirits out on all DSPs today!

Album Review: Griffen - THE IMMORTAL

I’ve caught some features from Griffen aka The Immortal Griffen since I started reviewing a while back and it’s only right I finally dig into a project from this Chicago MC. It doesn’t take much looking or listening to see Griffen is a Hip-Hop veteran. With a wide range of sounds and styles, there plenty to enjoy on THE IMMORTAL.
.

I caught the deluxe version of THE IMMORTAL, so there’s plenty of tracks and moments to talk about and get into. First, Griffen has a great flow and rhyming ability at a high level. You can take it from me or you can take it from the many voices throughout THE IMMORTAL that sent their love and respects for Griffen. Hearing his peers give Griffen his flowers was great and as a new fan, it pushes me to want to dig deeper into his catalogue. This is supposedly Griffens last album, which explains the messages from everyone, many of which have a semi somber tone. Understandably as it’s obvious Griffen has left an impact on his fans and peers alike.
.

SWAN SONG starts the album off with a familiar sample that brings its own twist. A good start to the album that hooks you in immediately. Followed by 6300, a song where Griffen lets you know exactly where he’s from and a standout track. THE IMMORTAL GRIFFEN is one of the best songs on the album and features one of my favorite MCs, IAMGAWD. GAWDs hook is incredible and is perfect for the beat. Meanwhile Griffen chops up the verses and lets it be known, the way to be immortal is to put your soul on wax. A powerful message that I agree with. The Intermissions like BE & RUNTELDAT are both great break tracks, and of course there’s a few tracks I like a bit less which is expected with a long album and a versatile artist like Griffen. But some of my favorite songs here outside of the ones I’ve mentioned are NOPE, HIGHER, LONG LIVE YONA & BORA BORA.
.

This was a really great album and if it really is the last release from Griffen, it lives up to the status. Obviously I’m a newer fan but of course I hate to see any artist say they are done. So hopefully the retirement is temporary. Hip-Hop needs more Griffens to hold everything up and bring balance, which is exactly what Griffen does.

Album Review: Eminem & Royce Da 5’9” (Bad Meets Evil) - Hell: The Sequel

It’s been 15 years since this album dropped? That’s fucked up. This is an album I absolutely loved when it came out. I was already a big Eminem fan at the time and only a few years previous to this release, had become a huge Royce Da 5’9’’ as well. So I can’t help but want to look back at this after a few years away but will be trying my best to set aside any nostalgia as I breakdown Bad Meets Evil’s Hell: The Sequel.
.

The first song Welcome 2 Hell is possibly my favorite song on the album, the back and forth between Eminem and Royce Da 5’9’’ never ceased to impress me and hook me in to the track. The reunion of these two after years of beef and drama will always make me happy. Fast Lane is one of the singles for this album and one of the best ones. Both Eminem and Royce are heat spitters, sometimes there’s bars that I don’t love but for the most part I just love the technical skills shown and mostly the lines are great. Speaking of reunions, The Reunion is arguably my second favorite song on the album. The stories, Royce and Eminem tell and the way they come together is always enjoyable and makes me laugh. Those first 3 songs are my favorite run of tracks on the album.
.

Above The Law is good and I like the hook but was always a slightly more middle of the road song. Royce Da 5’9’’ took the cake on Above The Law one for me. I’m On Everything took me a long time to get into back in the day, the beat is just a bit funky and the Mike Epps sampled hook is just alright. But both of these guys know about what they are talking about and the verses are dope from both Royce & Em. A Kiss is another standout, the beat is smooth and deep and once again Royce & Eminem slice right through it lyrically. Lighters was a huge song and one I appreciate but not one I really return to. Very commercial with Bruno Mars but Royce Da 5’9’’ has said that song changed his life and bank account, so I can’t be mad at it. Take From Me has great verses but the vibe of the song is just one I don’t revisit much. I never really liked Loud Noises even though I’m a big Slaughterhouse fan, just that beat and hook don’t work for me. But the bonus tracks, Living Proof & Echo, are both really good and songs I wish could have made the original album. Or swapped out my two least favorite tracks for it.
.

This is a great album and one I still love. It’s not flawless and some days I feel like skipping some tracks. But to get a collaboration album from Eminem and Royce Da 5’9’’ was a dream, especially back in 2011. This will always hold a special place for me and 15 years later that still holds true.

Album Review: Westside Don - Its Lit Til Its Not

I caught Westside Don on Howie Stackz album Fried Hard, where Westside Don joined his Chicago peer. After that this album It’s Lit Till Its Not from Westside Don hit my radar, and I had to give it a listen. Blending fluid rhymes with smooth melodies, there’s plenty to enjoy here!
.

Westside Don lives in a musical lane that mixes street content and songs directed toward the ladies. Regardless of the content, Westside Don is bringing smooth vocals and arguably smoother rhymes & flows. He also has a very distinct voice that has great character to it and keeps me hooked in. And to return the favor to Westside Don, Howie Stackz has multiple features in the album to help hold things down across the 40 minute album.
.

When Westside Don is on his more pure street shit is when my interest is at its highest. Songs like All We Got & Duo Sliders are my favorites with the hard knocking beats and aggressive content. There’s a lot of tracks here that are more like love songs and Westside Don said himself on Duo Sliders, “I be singing LBE songs cause I love these bitches”. And I can’t argue with that honestly. Westside Don makes great songs it’s just in a lane that doesn’t exactly get into my daily rotation.
.

If you’re into melodic music and songs about ladies, this is a must listen. Westside Don is clearly very talented and he crafted a dope album with Its Lit Till Its Not. Westside Don is a branch on the ever growing, and highly talented Chicago Hip-Hop tree.

Album Review: Young M.A - Kween

When Young M.A first hit the scene I wasn’t really that into the wave admittedly. OOOUUU wasn’t a song I loved even though there was some remixes I enjoyed, point being I never tuned into Young M.As debut album or any subsequent projects. Well after a multi year break, Young M.A is back with plenty to get off their chest!
.

Young M.A has a lot to say and isn’t holding back on Kween. Starting with the first track, Therapy - Intro Young M.A opens the book on their life and doesn’t close it till the album concludes. Across the album on songs like Therapy, Open Scars, Hennessy Medusa & more; Young M.A speaks on her mom helping her get her career started and encouraging her music, addiction, friends and loved ones leeching and of course the loss of her brother. The personal touches on this album is what gives this album some needed soul even if they aren’t all my favorite songs.
.

One thing I can say about Young M.A is that shes authentically herself. Never shying away from those street roots and stud talk, like her or not, Young M.A keeps it a buck. Young M.A is a good rapper but not always one that I find impressively good. The flows and rhymes are solid and there’s some good bar work, but the delivery and style just leave me wanting more. I’d say my favorite songs here are Pressure, Lasagna & especially Gyal Dem Ryte. A song that felt like Young M.A really projected her voice and leveled things up, as well as the amazing sample of course.
.

This album is good just not fully for me. Even though Young M.A has grown on me over the years I still can’t say I really enjoy her style like that. When the energy and delivery turns up, so does my interest. But it’s just a bit too few and far between.

Album Review: Eyeda & Ghostboyjr - (In)Sense

Eyeda Sophia & Ghostboyrj are a rapper/producer pair both coming out of Canada. This quick 17 minute, 6 track EP, (In)Sense brings a great showcase of their respective skills! Laid back beats from Ghostboyrj, matched with furious yet calm rhyming from Eyeda Sophia. A hell of a duo, one that’s not to miss!
.

1 Shot starts things off with a dark and laid back beat whose drums drive the song in another gear. One that Eyeda Sophia matches as she spits her rapid fire spoken word style. Ear Wax slows everything down a bit but the energy from Eyeda doesn’t take a dip. Her delivery is calm yet passionate and it’s rare to catch a somewhat spoken word style like this that also rhymes and flows so well. Ballerina Farm is more of an uplifting vibe, and Eyeda Sophia brings a similar energy as she spits about love, nature & more.
.

Across the whole album Eyeda Sophia brings great lyrical content that spreads the width of life and she got a landscape of beats that’s perfect for what she’s bringing. Silky has Eyeda Sophia flexing her vocals on the hook and Ghostboyrjs beat evolves and flows along like a river. Roundabout Dr. has the one feature on this EP, from M3IKA, a new artist to me but one that held her own on the track. (In)Sight is the song that closes out the album and brings a somber tone. While Eyeda Sophia digs deeper than maybe any other song on this album to end the (In)Sense strong.
.

This is a really great project and both Eyeda Sophia and Ghostboyrjs are strong branches on the Canadian Hip-Hop tree. One of the strongest and healthiest trees in the culture. This project is worth the time and one you should check out today!

Album Review: Latto - Big Mama

So Lattos’ retiring eh? I can’t say I believe that, but I was always gonna tune into Big Mama regardless. So whether it’s a gimmick or how she really felt, and whether it lasts or not doesn’t matter too much. I want to hear heat no matter what and Latto has been know to bring it, but did she deliver here? Let’s talk about bit.
.

For me Latto brings a lot of stuff I like for the lane shes in. Good vocals, energy, solid flows and rhymes, all packed together in the more explicit female niche. It’s not mind blowing, but I’m also not really tuning into Latto regularly like that. But if and when I’m in the mood for some music like that, which is here and there, Latto isn’t a bad pick in my opinion. Now what I don’t think works as well is when Latto gets more melodic and sings. It’s not bad but I’m not sure I’d say its good either. At minimum, it’s not for me. Songs like Chrome Heart Diaper Bags, Okayyy, Fallin’, Make Me, Naked & others felt weighed down by the singing. There’s other artists I can turn to for that but I understand and appreciate Latto not being boxed in at the some time.
.

When Latto’s really rapping is when she’s at her best, and unfortunately this album didn’t have her digging her heels in and spitting like that. She was rapping but the production kept things light and less aggressive. That did make for some more heartfelt songs, they just weren’t songs I’ll be returning to. Some of my favorite songs here are Get Money Girl, GOMF, Onnat & Need Luv 2. But unfortunately nothing hear reached the heightens of any of my favorite Latto songs from the past. Not a bad album but really just made me want to listen to my favorite Latto songs and very few songs here would be considered ro be added to that list.
.

This album wasn’t bad but didn’t really get me excited like I’d hoped it might. A lot of stuff feels like a step down from some of her previous albums and that’s fine, but a shame if it’s truly her retirement album. I won’t hold my breath that’s true, but you never know.

Single Review: YaH-Ra feat Quincy White & Python P - ‘25 TiL iNFiNiTY

When YaH-Ra drops, I’m always interested. When ‘25 TiL iNFiNiTY dropped last year I listened and enjoyed but never got around to writing up about it at the time. Well seeing as I’m doing another run of single reviews, I figured I would slip this one into the lineup! Along with Quincy White on the track, and produced by one of my favorite up-and-coming producers Python P, this is a stand out song!
.

Quincy White is a new MC to me and he starts the track off, bringing a smooth and swift flow to the beat. Kicking bars about life, the West Coast and fly rap shit. All fitting for the tracks and a great verse! Like I said Python P is one of my favorite rising producers and was one of my 2025 Rising Star producers. The beat here is laid back and brings the West Coast vibes to match Quincy White and YaH-Ras vibe, filled with soul and great vocal samples ringing off in the back.
.

YaH-Ra takes over the track after Quincy White and delivers a strong verse as expected. YaH-Ra has many styles and on this shes getting into a rhyme style that chops and flows simultaneously. A very unique and dope delivery. While YaH-Ra speaks on the struggles and stresses around her, all while she keeps a cool like the W$P she is. Queen shit.
.

This was a great trio of artists that came together for ‘25 TiL iNFiNiTY and put on a showcase for the west coast! Quincy White made an impact for his first impression here and both YaH-Ra and Python P delivered like I knew they would. Check out all three of these West Coast heat makers and hopefully it’s not the last time I see a combination of these three!

Album Review: ILL GORDON & Custom Made - Full Plate

Not long ago I heard ILL GORDONS 2025 album Pen’s & Needles with Uncle JoHN, and I loved it! And before I knew it, ILL GORDON had dropped again. This time with Custom Made on productions they give us Full Plate! Bringing a whole new vibe than the last album I heard, there’s plenty to get into here.
.

Quickly into this project it’s clear there’s a slightly different sound and feeling compared to Pen’s & Needles. Full Plate is more calm & soulful overall. Always good to see the different dimensions and styles an artist likes and I appreciate having a specific sound for different albums. Not to say there’s nothing ominous. Whats consistent across albums is ILL GORDON on the mic. Lyrically and technically a highly skilled MC that’s flipping rhymes left and right. Trolls and High start the album off smooth and sets the tone.
.

There’s a few guests here that get more than one feature and it’s well deserved. Le’Aire Xciv, Akua Taylor and Andreaus Haley all shine as well as GRIFFEN who helped lock down one of my favorite songs here, House of Chen. A posse cut that had each MC slicing through one of the few darker beats on Full Plate. Some of my favorite songs on this album outside of the ones I’ve named are On The Guys, Click Clacks, Above All & I Wonder.
.

This is a great album and it’s no surprise with an artist like ILL GORDON. He’s continued to impress since I first heard him as a feature and is now an artist I’m actively keeping up with! If you’re not tapped in with ILL GORDON, then this is a perfect place to start!

Album Review: Rufus Sims, Ju Jilla & Xcelence - Put That On Everything (UPDATE)

People may or may not realize that most of my 10/10s come in the form of updates. More often than not an album needs to sink into its 10/10 position for me and Put That On Everything just needed that splash of extra time with me to get it there.
.

The more I listen to this album I already thought was incredible, the more I find myself asking where is the missing piece from being a 10? And I haven’t been able to locate it. Read my full review for all my thoughts but in short, this album is a masterpiece!

Album Review: Smoke DZA & Memphis Bleek - Trees Open Doors

I’ve been a fan of Smoke DZA for a long time at this point so when he drops I try to tune in. Recently I saw he was dropping with Memphis Bleek and thought it could be a dope combo. Then a song popped on after finishing another album and Smoke DZA was spitting so crazy I had to tune in right then. So let’s talk about Trees Open Doors!
.

This is a 4 song EP so it’s quick but that’s alright. Leave people wanting more. Blockbuster Night was the first song and brings a jazzy beat driven by the prominent drums. Produced by Pria, Smoke DZA hits the track first and lets us know when they go big for the night, it’s a blockbuster event. Memphis Bleek matches the theme and spits a good verse, his rhyme schemes don’t get as intricate as Smoke DZAs but brings a good balance to each track. Lock In was the song that caught my attention and pulled me into the project before I was planning on originally. Smoke DZA fires off in his verse like a rocket and doesn’t end until the hook is over. And Memphis Bleek brought a similar energy and popped off in his verse, telling friends and enemies alike to lock in if you want it like these guys do.
.

Slide took me some time to get used to admittedly. The beat is good but switches up so much from the previous 2 songs that it took me a while to grow on me. More of a mainstream kind of song, not something I’d typically imagine Smoke DZA on but both him and Memphis Bleek sounded good. I think my main issue was not really loving the hook. And then Party of Five gets into a slow, heavenly beat that pulled me right in. And Christian D’or held his own with these two Hip-Hop legends.
.

This was a really good project, I wish I liked Slide more even though it grew on me. I always say when a project is short like this there’s little room for skips and Slide is right on that edge. Regardless Smoke DZA and Memphis Bleek both went off on this project and made for a dope EP drop in 2026!

Album Review: Aviated Keyaan - God Bless The Hustle

Earlier this year Aviated Keyaan hit my radar with his EP Gamesgiving 2 from 2025. A great bite of a project that gave me an idea of what Aviated Keyaan has to offer. Well he’s back with God Bless The Hustle and there’s even more heat to be had. Bringing smooth vibes and bouncing beats out of Ohio, this one’s for the laid back money makers!
.

Just like Gamesgiving 2, Aviated Keyaan brings the vibes. If you’re into lifestyle rap this is an album to check into. With production from a range of producers like Dapp Beatz, Mink Tha Playa, Luka Burr & more, they all delivered on the soundscape to bring Keyaan to an elevated state. And while the production leads the charge through Aviated Keyaan direction, it’s the man himself that built up dope tracks on top of these beats. With flows and rhymes as smooth as the production, this is an album to smoke and ride to.
.

With very few features here, the weight is largely left to Aviated Keyaan to hold up on his own. But he does it well. Not completely alone thiugh, the features here make an impact. Maino, Curren$y & Dii Jay Made It all showed up and showed out for AK and helped boost the album. I will say Aviated Seduction & My Gemeni were probably my least favorite tracks based on the content but still sounded good for sure. On the other hand some of my favorite songs here are All Grind, Ohio’s Groove, Gas Gauges, Sport Button, Beans & Rollin 3x. But generally it’s an easy album to put on and it’s let play!
.

Aviated Keyaan is making some great moves in the lane he’s in! Like I said if you’re into luxury/lifestyle rap then this is an album worth your time! Great beats, great flows and rhymes, all tied together in a gold laced bow!

Album Review: Vic Spencer - Inspire Your Idols

There’s no doubt in my mind that Vic Spencer is one of the hardest working artists in music. In 2025 Vic dropped multiple amazing projects and it’s time for us to get our first major dose in 2026! Vic Spencer is one of the few people that can say he’s inspired an idol of his in Sean Price, Rest In Peace. And now Vic is here to not only decimate beats alone, but with a few newer and lesser know talent that he believes in. And y’all don’t know how excited I was to get an early listen to talk about this album day 1!
.

So much good stuff to get into here on Inspire Your Idols.. Starting with the production, it’s amazing front to back. As much as everyone and myself loves a one producer album, I also love multi-producer albums and this has a different beat maker for almost every track. Vic gets the best from every producer and each beat is different yet radiates with a Vic Spencer vibe that matches perfect. Amazon Truck On Spokes, an incredible first track that’s smooth and elegant before the beat switches into a bass heavy attack then back again. All while Vic matches and flows perfectly in the groove. Vic Spencer has endless bars and quotables that are filled with humor and wit, yet authenticity and respect are still exuded. There’s a reason Sean Price was a fan.
.

Guys like Nut G, BlaQ Chidori, J Wade & Aakeem Eshú & Lil Kydd (also produced 2 songs here) are all brand new names to me, can be risky if they don’t deliver. But every single one of them did, nobody let Vic Spencer or us listeners down. And Marv Won, came through like I’d expect out of the Detroit great. Vic Spencer’s flows and thyme schemes throughout this might be the sharpest and most intricate I’ve heard from him so far. A song like Come Thru On Point (produced by Billionaire boys out) has Vic going absolutely crazy. Not just spitting clever and funny bars, as always Vic gets introspective and personal throughout the album. Showing his real feelings and thoughts on life, friends, love and enemies. always a great balance within Vic Spencer’s music.
.

I’ve spent hours and hours with this album over many days already, but haven’t felt an urge to skip a track, jump around or even turn it off at all. On Tropical Smoothie From 71st Vic Spencer says “I ain’t been proud enough in myself” and I get it, that can be hard to do. But Vic, you deserve to be proud for countless reasons and Inspire Your Idols. is just the latest one. An incredible album.

Album Review: A Producer Named 2, 5’4 EvEryDaY & AJ The Big Fella - POP! Music

All three of the artists involved in POP! Music have been impressing me since they first hit my radar in the last couple months. Linking up Michigan with Houston, this album consists of 5’4 EvEryDaY & AJ The Big Fella on the microphone, while A Producer Named 2 handles the production. This is a quick project but one that gives you a burst of dope Hip-Hop in your life!
.

POP! Music starts the project off and brings a classic Hip-Hop vibe that I can’t help but love. The project itself was released for Hip-Hop 51st birthday and this is an ode to the genre. Great verses and a great hook if you have love for the genre. Chitterlin’z comes next and slows things down quite a bit. 5’4 EvEryDaY starts the song off with his smooth Detroit voice before AJ The Big Fella matches his verse with his contrasting more aggressive style. Jasmine Rice maintains the vibe although changes into a more somber feeling as the two MCs contemplate relationships.
.

A Producer Named 2 always comes through with great production and he delivered as expected here. With a wide range of beat styles and sounds, but each moving you differently. Better Than Sex is 5’4 EvEryDaYs solo song here, a song that’s title made me unsure before getting into it but it’s amazing. That beat is dark and light, evolving as it plays while 5’4 EvEryDaY lets us know the benefits he’s getting are better than sex. F.L.Y. Is AJ The Big Fellas solo track, and like the tracks title, it uplifts. Bringing a bouncy beat, AJ matches the vibe and gets off a technical and lyrical showcase. Breakfast On Fontaine is A Producer Named 2s solo track, an incredible beat plays that I was into immediately, dark and murky, one I never check out on. The last song is Destiny (POP! Music Remix), a somber track that’s another love letter to Hip-Hop. I’ll always love songs like those.
.

Like I said, ever since I came across all three of these artists I’ve been impressed and this project is no different. This further solidified how dope these guys all are, and it’s a project I urge you to check out and support on Bandcamp today!

Album Review: Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y & Harry Fraud - Roofless Records For Drop Tops: Disc 2

It’s crazy that this is the 5th Wiz Khalifa release I’ve heard this year and the wild ups and downs that have come in that time. But this is easily Wiz’s best release of the year and might even be Curren$ys so far also. I really enjoyed Disc 1, but without a doubt Roofless Records For Drop Tops: Disc 2 leveled everything up.
.

A lot of the little issues I had with Roofless Records For Drop Tops: Disc 1 felt ironed out here. Less Wiz hooks, replaced by some Curren$y hooks and sometimes no hooks at all, which worked really well. It fit in with the heavenly Harry Fraud production, nothing here felt forced which is what the beats needed. This album is like a Raw joint, all natural. Pink Panther was a great first track, a slow calm beat that let Spitta get the intro off before Wiz took over. Passing verses back and forth like Harlem Globetrotters in the court. The Coin Toss brings a beat that could have lost me but when the beat drops and Curren$y starts with “These Harry Fraud beats we don’t skip through these, we wreck em all”, the fuse is lit. An undeniable Jet Life/Taylor Gang hit.
.

Not to focus too much on Curren$y, I gotta give Wiz Khalifa his flowers. I’ve had some reviews for Wiz this year that were hard on him, but everything he did here was exactly what I want. His flows and raps are great, his content feels authentic and mature plus he held back on the melodic parts. He’s a big brand already and I know he’s talking streaming but you gotta respect him with lines like “Tryna keep my streams up, workin’ to get my brand big”. Still in that grind mindset even as big as Wiz is. This album is only 20 minutes and flys by with its skipless tracklist. Some of my favorite songs were The Coin Toss, Champagne Bottle Emotes, Smoke N’ Pray, Storm Shadow & Snake Eyes and z28.
.

This is arguably my favorite Wiz Khalifa & Curren$y collab project. Which is saying a lot. But for me and my tastes this might match up better than any previous releases, I’ll have to look back. But regardless we have what I think will go down as another classic in these two MCs discography.
