I think I am a love addict

Just listened to the first half of Elizabeth Gilbert’s controversial new memoir. Don’t wish to get into that controversy. I do, however, appreciate her talking about Sex and Love Addiction.

I’ve been in recovery for over a year for alcohol and weed but the one thing I have not been able to let go off is my need for validation from others in order to feel a sense of wholeness/fulfillment in life/myself.

Particularly validation from people I am attracted to. I want to get on the apps, go out, join groups, socialize in general with the intention of finding someone I am attracted to who will validate me in the ways I want. Anytime that validation starts coming I am on top of the world and when it’s taken away or doesn’t reach the level I began to envision, I collapse.

I can’t stop thinking about it. I don’t know what I’m looking for in this post but I guess this is just my first time reaching out to a community who might understand. I suppose I could use some guidance? Some resources?
Some encouragement? I want so much to not be so dependent on others for my sense of fulfillment.
