This doesn't seem okay. Am I misreading her cues?

She seems to be up too long at once. Is she getting worked up and staying up longer?

She unlatches, wiggles and cries. It seems like that behavior could be due to multiple things and I could be misreading her sometimes. She definitely does it for potty sometimes, as observed during diaper free time. Other than potty, it could be due to a strong letdown, needing to puke, or waiting for a letdown.

She goes pee shortly after being over the potty but is she just going because it is offered? She is fine to be held on the potty, then cries just before pee. She cries for pee and not really for poo. She holds it fine during naps so that is another reason idk if she is really always fussing for pee during feeding.

Am I contributing to her getting worked up by potentially misreading her behavior, or is this normal? Especially those who feed over the potty may know.

And please, don't comment about - you don't have to get every catch. I'm not bothered if this is what it takes while she has a little bladder and gets used to the sensation, but I just don't know if I'm reading her accurately.

edit to add: I made another post about crying on the potty before pee. Is that from discomfort with the sensation? or is it so hard for her to calm down to relax to pee?

Crying before pee

We've done EC since day 4 and she is now 23 days old. No poopy diaper since day 6

What is surprising us is the amount of grunting and crying before pee. It seems more than for poo. She does her potty dance and we get her on the potty and then grunting, perhaps pushing, and crying for pee.

My husband tried to run some water over her a few times and he said he thinks that helps and she doesn't cry. Maybe it helps her find the muscles fo relax, but I don't want her to depend on that or take that as our cue.

So is she crying in frustration or discomfort? It doesn't seem like this for poo. At least not as dramatic and consistent.

I think she also does it during bare bum time, which we've done a lot in the heat, but I haven't kept track as well bc she also grunts and cries at that time when feeding because my let down is fast.

My mom wants me to get her checked about it but from what I read it can just be discomfort and frustration.

Also we noticed foamy poo. What is going on with that? 😆

I should've done this sooner

Since it is good to pair fats and sugar, I've been mixing softened butter and this "nutella." It allows me to do a thick coat without having to pile on the nutella. I like the milder, creamier taste. And it is good for me to have butter while breastfeeding. (The container says joghurtbutter, but I am just reusing the container.)

Newborn Sleep

I should've been logging sleep to make this easier, but all the gaps are basically when she is asleep. She is 17 days old.

My question is - are the green lines I drew actually a rough pattern? It looks like that could be a pattern, and it is skewed between the days.

I wish I were able to know "she sleeps __ hours every __ hours."

We are doing baby pottying, so that is why you may notice the potty icons.

How do you go out like this?

12 days old, EBF. EC started day 5

How do you go out like this? We have a 3 hour ride tomorrow in which we will, of course, make stops. We will use disposable instead if cloth for that ride.

When she is awake it is just boob, potty, boob, potty. We are back and forth until she goes to sleep. Thankfully my husband can help bc he works from home. When I can sit up comfortably, I will try feeding on the potty.

Today we did a diaper free day starting in the morning while it was hot, so her skin could air out. No misses during that time. She only went when she was upright on the potty.

The potential signs I've noticed for my baby include: unlatching yet rooting, squirming, and grunting, even for pee.

Update:

She was sleeping most of the ride. We stopped once for potty and feed. Her diaper was dry. It was her first outdoor pottying!

About 45 min later on the road, she started grunting and eventually peed in the diaper and hated it - screaming to the point of sweating. We were only 15 mins to home. We stopped to change the diaper so she could calm down. Then she was a happy girl.

We used disposables bc we only packed 4 diapers to go to the birth home, since I hadn't planned to start cloth so soon, not even EC, but we tried it once and picked up the cues soon enough.

It seems quite necessary for her bc she won't feed if she feels she has to go potty. I want to try feeding on the potty so we don't have to go back and forth. I guess I wouldn't mind it so much if I could sit more comfortably when I heal more.

Looking at our stats on the Huckleberry app

Born on June 9th!

We've been using a bucket but I would like to try a basin so we don't have to hold her so precariously.

I also experimented with giving her the boob while she was fussy after peeing. Poo came soon.

We started cloth diapers yesterday.

Didn't expect to try it 4 days PP

So I wasn't expecting to be able to do this four days post-partum with stitches, still at the birthing home, but here's how elimination communication has gone.

It started this morning with the observation that she was fussing and I was thinking that maybe she was already pooping, so I waited a little bit, and then we decided to try to change her. There was no poop in the diaper. She started peeing on the waterproof mat and it was sliding off onto the bed. 😅

I didnt expect that cue for pee. It was like she was bearing down and pushing.

Then we held her over what we had out, the wipe/water bowl, but there was nothing. We moved too soon. She started peeing on the mat again.

She was upset from being covered in pee so I gave her the boob to calm down. We tried diaper-free time at that point and blowing on her bottom but she was probably done at that point.

So we concluded that sort of fussing was her cue for the potty, so when we noticed it the next time today, we decided to try EC.

We opened the diaper and there was already pee and some of the water-soluble poop. So we put her over the bucket which was sitting steady on a big plate on the bed.

She started going poop! We were impressed! She seemed to be done when she cried. We wiped her off and put on a clean diaper. We were glad that we didn't have to clean up that mess in her diaper.

We will still wait to start cloth diapers bc I didnt take the time to teach my husband the folds and cleaning system beforehand and now I can't sit up long.
