SPYI total returns don't have me convinced

I'm looking at total returns of SPYI, ie dividends reinvested and NAV movement, since its inception. Check out these two images, It underperforms SPY according to totalrealreturns.com . Is this accurate?

so my question is why not just hold SPY before retirement for more growth, and then convert to SPYI for income during retirement? Yes I know taxes on the SPY gains will drag during conversion, but I've done rough calculations and even in like a 20% tax bracket you'd still come out ahead doing this, for about 20 years before retirement. Has anyone done something liek this, or am I thinking about this wrong? Thanks for your advice

For SPYI, how true is the ROC/qualified treatment for those who actually hold SPYI?

I'm reading about SPYI, QQQI, etc being tax efficient because it's largely ROC and qualified dividends? But for those who actually hold these funds, what percent did you actually pay towards taxes this year on SPYI and other neos funds?

Was going over old notes and came across this

Not to be discouraging or anything. But I really tried options for four years and realized I'm just not good at it. Lost about 7k over those four years, I consider myself lucky that it was that and I didn't blow up my portfolio. I enjoy dividend investing and buy and hold more. The brain power it took for four years selling options just wasn't worth it for me. Maybe I'll be back to thetagang banging but the mental load is just too much for me and I want to do other stuff with my life. I like SPYI more hehe

For those that live fully off dividends, do you have any strategy or simply live off the cash from the dividends?

Would like to hear people's plans of those who are living entirely off their dividends. Do you simply receive the cash and not drip? Some other strategy? Does your plan pivot when the market goes down? Ty for your responses
