Body on the AMT Cobra is pretty much done. Chassis is all painted, with interior yet to be started. I saw a photo of a roof spoiler when doing some research, and really liked it, so I made one, but Im not sure I like it on this . Some angles I like it, others, not so much. Im leaning towards just leaving it off. Last 2 photos with it mocked up.
Which one to build next? Widebody Hellcat, SN95 Cobra, or the 348 Challenge? 🤔 Undecided on color for the Hellcat and Ferrari. The Cobra is gonna be eruption green. Ive also still got some wheels coming for both the Ferrari and Cobra.
Started this back in February, and was originally supposed to be my build off submission, but I just couldnt get bench time. Overall, Im happy with the outcome. Did quite a bit for this one. Made a cowl hood and laid some CF over it, twin turbo coyote swap, WELD wheels and Toyo Proxes R888 tires, lowered the height, swapped some seats, did A LOT of cutting and grinding to fit the engine, had some lambo brakes left over from another build and added those, and routed some oil lines to a cooler, then the turbos. Seats, engine and wheels are from Tx3Dcustoms. Color is Kona Blue that I got from Splash. The flake really pops in the sun, so I tried to get some photos of that. Kit is the Revell Lightning.
The worst color 98% of the time, but for that other 2% of time....

But Im still working on the Lightning! This was supposed to be my submission for the build off back in March, but I just couldn't get any work in on this during the time. Just wanted to get a few pics of what I have been working on. SLOWLY, getting there. 😆Still have a bit planned though!

Thought Id throw up a quick how to on paint correction. I had a bit of trash, and some orange peel in my clear so I figured Id post how I get a nice, smooth finish. First pic is what I started with. I start with 2K grit sandpaper, and gently wet sand the panel. Dont get too aggressive with pressure and, STAY AWAY FROM EDGES. If you do sand on edges, be extremely delicate or you will burn through the paint. Generally, paint is more thin on edges than on more flat panels. After a general wet sand, wipe away the residue and see where youre at. You can see in the 2nd pic, after my initial sand, I still had some orange peel and some minor trash. Keep going until you have a nice, even panel with no peel. After knocking down the orange peel, we're going to step up the grit in sandpaper. I went to 3K, and we're going to start to get rid of the scratches left behind by the 2K. Again, constantly wipe and check progress. After 3K, I stepped up to 6K, then to 8K. After the 8K, I was satisfied with how flat everything was, so I start the polishing process. You want to start with the LEAST abrasive as possible, and see how it works. If you need something more aggressive, you can use a compound with more abrasive and a stiffer pad. I started with what's in the photo, which is a compound/polish in one, and a medium grade pad on my dremel. Again, keep the speed somewhat low on the rotary tool so you dont burn through the clear. On mine, Im typically between speed 2 and 3, and LIGHT pressure. Let the tool do the work, and dont stay in one spot! Keep the dremel moving! If you started with an aggressive compound and stiff pad, and you've still got some light scratches and haze, dont fret. This is when you go to the next compound and pad, which will be a finishing compound and a lighter, less stiff pad. After polishing, you should be left with a nice, smooth finish!
Edit: To add, clear used is Splash-Paints 2K clear.
...its time to get back to working on my twin turbo Lightning. Had to get myself another nozzle and needle for my Evo because I completely messed up my previous one. Now she sprays like a dream again. Sprayed color and clear the past couple days. I do have a little trash to sand out of the clear. Color is Kona Blue, a factory Ford color, that I of course got from Splash, along with their 2K clear. Tried to get a little of the flake/sparkle in the sunlight.
