Teen Broom Axe: AIO?

This isn’t really a point of contention in my home; not in this instance anyway.

My [42M] son [17M] was outside doing a chore( sweeping off the sidewalk in front of our home).

He walked in with our broom that we’ve had for about ten years. It’s not a particularly special broom, but a reliable one, and probably had some years left on it.

The broom was busted at the end of the shaft, with the threaded portion still within its receptacle.

He’s a good kid, as upfront and honest. He said “I broke the broom. I was pretending like it was an axe and I hit it in the ground but not hard. I was just goofing off after I finished sweeping.”

There was no outrage, no anger or anything…it’s just a broom. However, I did suggest he should probably be on the hook for replacing it, since it wasn’t broken while using it as designed.

I just want to make sure I’m not being an ass to my kid.

Not pressing the issue, but want to teach responsibility and fairness.

Thoughts?

Good evening,

Last week I posted pics of my stack, and made it known I was using APMEX to track the value. It was made clear to me that APMEX tends to inflate value a bit, based on their current sale price, and I wanted a way to track melt against current spot, only really caring about the intrinsic value of the precious metals.

I started putting together a spreadsheet with forumlas that can break down gold and silver bullion, 90%/Constitutional/Junk by face value, then 925 by gross weight and breaking it down to net silver content. I then ran it through ChatGPT to correct formula errors. It seems to be working well for me so far, but will be making some tweaks here and there too.

If you want to try it, I'm sharing it at the following link. Note: This is a Google Drive link.

I am trying to work with GenAI to help me develop an auto updating spot cell, but rightnow, you'll have to input spot manually. If you have all your assets plugged in, and current spot plugged in, it'll update everything else automatically for you on the summary tab.

I've included examples in each tab.

I picked up these Peace Silver Dollars at $40/ea today!

Had some cash burning a hole in my pocket. Went to a couple pawn shops and they were ridiculously overpriced.

Found this little “Gold Deposit” mall kiosk and asked him if he had any silver. He said only 90% coins. I told him Constitutional is what I’m shopping for today…Morgans or Peace dollars.

Then he whipped out a few bags and he has a whole bag of these. I told him I’d buy ten at $40 each…he tried to fight me on it, but I said “Constitutional is going for 12% to 15% back of spot in this market.” He sighed and let me get them for what I asked.

He has more!

They all weigh in within margin. Yes they’ve been cleaned…but are worth melt.

My stack is less than a year old (how long I’ve been at it).

I just purchased tie more 1ozt gold coins that will be on their way soon.

The plastic stackables contain constitutional dimes and quarters, and the rolls in the back are are constitutional quarters (total of 30lbs constitutional quarters and dimes rolled). Then there’s the stacked constitutional that’s not enough to be rolled (mix of dollars, half dollars, quarters and dimes).

At 21 ASEs, I feel I’m weak there…definitely need to get more of those. Then there’s a mix of Britiannias, Canadian Maple Leaves (gold and silver), Vienna Philharmonics (gold and silver), US Mint Commic Art Program silver medals (2x 2.5ozt, 1x 1ozt), Krugerands, Libertad, Tuvalu dollars, and more.

Been having fun!
