Teen Broom Axe: AIO?
This isn’t really a point of contention in my home; not in this instance anyway.
My [42M] son [17M] was outside doing a chore( sweeping off the sidewalk in front of our home).
He walked in with our broom that we’ve had for about ten years. It’s not a particularly special broom, but a reliable one, and probably had some years left on it.
The broom was busted at the end of the shaft, with the threaded portion still within its receptacle.
He’s a good kid, as upfront and honest. He said “I broke the broom. I was pretending like it was an axe and I hit it in the ground but not hard. I was just goofing off after I finished sweeping.”
There was no outrage, no anger or anything…it’s just a broom. However, I did suggest he should probably be on the hook for replacing it, since it wasn’t broken while using it as designed.
I just want to make sure I’m not being an ass to my kid.
Not pressing the issue, but want to teach responsibility and fairness.
Thoughts?
