Tips for organizing sheet pieces for waterjet cutting/dxg export
My next project will be modeling steel welded structures for which I will have individual pieces cut on a waterjett or laser table. I'm a little worried that with the extreme number of parts to make up the whole structure, it will be very tedious keeping each piece into a separate component that can be exported. I'm tempted to use Rhino just for simplicity, though of course parameters would be nice for adjusting hole diameter, tolerance etc. Just looking for any general tips or advice on how to go about this efficiently. Thank you!
Time to adjust to Cat nextgen elec/hyd excavator controls?
TL;DR Did you also initially hate the electric over hydraulic next gen controls? Did you ever get over it and learn to like it?
So Cat makes some unique small excavators like the 302 and 302.7 and I'm looking at buying one. I have probably 100 hours in Cat next gen machines (this was a couple years ago) and I have to say I strongly disliked the controls. I've been operating for 10 years, about 4,000 hours, so I'm competent, and I've been able to adjust to any normal hydro/hydro pilot controlled machine in a couple hours to full proficiency. But even after that 100 hours on the Cats, I still felt like something was off. The lack of tactile feel or feedback i guess, idk.
Anyways, now I'm looking at purchasing a cat machine because they have certain options that no other manufacturer does. Also, I think the elec/hydro controls are probably easier on the shoulders and arms over the long run, so there's some extra appeal there. But I'm worried I'll never get to the point of actually enjoying the controls. Whereas on my current pilot/hydro machine I find it very pleasing to operate. Anyone have relevant experience they could share?
edit: retractable tracks on the 302.7 is the unique feature. if anyone has seen that on a 2.6-2.7t machine by another brand, let me know! (also the 302 has much more power and a little more weight than the only other comparable, 2 ton retractable track machine, the bobcat e20)
