The Poisonwood Bible or Dark Matter?

I read the first chapter of The Poisonwood Bible (Barbara Kingsolver) last night. It seems to be recommended often and amongst people's top 5 books. Maybe I need to give it a bit longer but I found the language and writing style didn't hook me. Today, my library reservation on Dark Matter (Blake Crouch) came through and I'm stuck. It's way more my usual genre but I was recommended TPB because I was told it would scratch my itch for a book with a complicated father-daughter dynamic. Do I hang in for a while longer with it (it's so long!!) or go with the one I know I'll definitely like? If you read and liked TPB, can you tell me what was memorable or enjoyable about it?

Book with inter-dimensional travel looking for someone

I've been thinking a lot about the TV series The OA and Prairie's drive to find and be reunited with Homer, who is no longer in the same dimension as her. The part that hurt about the series being cancelled was Pairie having again lost Homer and promising to come find him. Are there any books that have a similar theme? Preferably, where they're finally reunited and both recognise they have existed together before elsewhere.

Audiobooks: Some science

This post is for anyone who chooses audiobooks. I don't want any of you feeling "less than" or othered by today's question. The research finds that our brains learn equally well whether it is by acquiring that information via our eyes or our ears. Here is a link to an article explaining this science: https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2026/03/audiobooks-dont-really-count-as-reading-think-again/

There are multiple accessibility reasons behind people *needing* to use audiobooks to counter the limitations of their diagnoses/disabilities. And sometimes, it's purely preference or a more efficient use of their time.

Reading rocks in all its formats. Kayo and I love it!! You do you. ✨️

Book about complicated father-daughter dynamic

I'm looking for book suggestions where complex father-daughter relationships are explored really well and get you in your feels about the bond that is or could have been between dads and daughters. I'm open to the genre as long as that criterion is met.

Destinations

What happens when our birb completes 100% of a destination? Do we get to stay there unless we fly somewhere else? I'm almost all the way through the Amazon and it will be the first location I've stayed this long, so I'm unsure if I get to just keep hanging out here or have to fly somewhere else.

Pawpaw Help Needed

Hi,

My papaw (red, bisexual) started out growing as expected but then dropped its branches and leaves at the top and started sprouting them nearer the bottom. It is planted at the top of an embankment, but we are in the foothills of a mountain and there is a lot of water that runs off and an aquifer beneath us. Is this a result of wet feet, or something else? Location: Sunshine Coast, QLD.

Happy Pride

Kayo and I would like to wish a Happy Pride month to everybirb who is celebrating. It isn't Pride here in Australia but we are LGBTQIA+ in our tree house so we decorated in lesbian colours to show our support. Would love to see other birb's Pride treehouses and outfits if you're celebrating. Has everyone seen the new FREE Pride wall shelves? All the other Pride wearables are free, too. Such a lovely gesture by Finch HQ. 🌈

Did you love these books and aren't an American?

I keep seeing a couple of books recommended or amongst people's favourite reads. I wonder whether anyone, who isn't American, has read them and loved them enough to consider them a must-read. They're John William's Stoner and Larry McMurtry's Lonesome Dove.

Trading?

Why is the trade sub so dead here? Where are you all trading? I haven't been trading too long and over in the Finch reddit most people seem to have gone to bed by the time I'm ready to trade (I live in Australia).

Reading mulptile messages from one friend

I'm wondering if there's a way to read all the messages from one friend when they send you a gift and a vibe and gratitude, for example. I get a notification I have 2 or 3 or whatever messages from someone then click on it and only see the top message. The others don't appear. It doesnt seem to matter whether I access the message from my tree (i.e., clicking on their birb) or from my mail box. Anyone else experience this and figure out a workaround?
