In DD1 I've already lost a couple heroes to stuff that felt completely unfair and out of nowhere. I'm talking about finishing all my party's turns, getting one marked, targeted by everyone in the enemy party, and then the very next round (for some fucking reason) some of the enemies in the enemy party have their turns before mine and kill off the marked hero. From full HP to ZERO without me having a single turn to do anything about it. I run the scenario over and over in my mind and I can't find anything to do differently, other than being able to know the future and drink a holy water preemptively.

So, my question is, is there any point where your heroes are safe from dying like that?

Edit. A couple more details about party comp and such. MaA - PD - Houndmaster - Crusader. All of them level 6 with maxed out equipment and abilities.

Weald lvl 5 run. Combat against double Fungal Scratcher and double Fungal Artillery. Houndmaster single target bite on one of the Artillery backline low HP at that moment but not enough to kill with anything, low dmg roll, bleeding. PD tries to stun the backline, resisted (high resistance from last stun). Crusader tries to stun frontline, resisted. At that point Crusader was at 45% HP after getting Marked and double critted the previous turn, he is also Marked for the next turn. Decide to Shield Crusader with MaA since he is closer to getting Death's Door and PD is full health and Houndmaster is at 90% HP with high dodge. Artillery ignores Crusader and Marks Houndmaster, deals some damage. 2nd Artillery hits Houndmaster again 5-6dmg crit. Scratcher hits Houndmaster, crit down to 20% HP. 2nd Scratcher hits Houndmaster, non-crit but enough to drop to Death's Door. Enemies lose the -speed debuff that I would have refreshed with MaA otherwise, so now the FUCKING artillery is faster than my heroes. Artillety hits Houndmaster. Dead. The second Artillery dies from bleading just after that*.* Finish the fight with the three of them, go back to town.

Yes, most of the time I have a somewhat easy successful runs. I have over 75 hours playing and only 2 maxed-out heroes dead. Always stun when possible, always try to kill an enemy on round 1-2 when possible.
