Getting ahead in America isn’t as hard as people make it sound. Now am I saying it’s easy to get to top .01%, absolutely not. Americans would rather blame the system and be a victim than put in hard work and accrue skills/knowledge to increase income, invest, and grow.

I work in personal consumer finance brokering, and it blows my mind everyday how Americans think about finances and self sabotage. The wealth of knowledge available to us now allows for multiple routes to be financial security, people just choose to ignore it and not think.

I 26m have had a friend 26m for 10 years. We were best friends for most of this until the last 8 months.

The main difference is I now cannot stand the way he approaches life. I love him, but he lets life happen to him. Works a min wage job, has a terrible girlfriend who is mean to him, has no hobbies other than being with her and their drama.

Over the last 4 years I got a MBA, got married, have a kid on the way, bought a house, and went from a 100k income to 350k. Now here’s the thing. I love him as a person but I just can’t be around what I call “teenage drama” in his life.
2 months ago he called me at 11pm and proceeded to tell me how his girlfriend is mad at him over him not liking that she used to be a whore. It was at this point I realized I can’t be in this friendship anymore.

AITAH? Also how can I best handle this?
