1969 Dodge Country Charger -mpc kit

Started this kit with enthusiasm as it looked like a fun kit. Tooling is old so there's modest amount of flashing but nothing grossly overboard.

Exterior and some of the interior paint is Hobby Lobby's "Airbrush" Iridescent Emerald Green. I was able to polish out the polyurethane clearcoat pretty well for the first time . Only burned thru the paint in a few small places that I can easily touch up.

Standard Color Case 1911 .45 back from factory refinishing!

Saw a note here on Reddit that the mfg. Will do a CCH refinish for $250, sent mine off, well pleased with the result! Now I can take her to the range again without being embarrassed of what I did to her before. And btw, these photos are 100% unretouched, zero manipulation of hue, tint, temperature, and everything else.

I only slightly cropped the edges to get the gun closer.

Revell Mercedes Benz SSKL

Got this kit on a whim as it was something different. Didn't realize it was 1/32 scale, but it seems ok. It was a fun build. It even came with 3 colors of brush paint, a brush, and some tube glue! I thinned the dark maroon and airbrushed it, used rattlecan for the main body, and airbrushed some AK Super Chrome, which I must say, I am VERY pleased with! This chrome goes on very shiny, and it actually dries quickly so you can handle it, unlike the chrome pens I use sometimes.

Tamiya 1/24th AMG MERCEDES GT3

This kit was a real pleasure to build. It was well made, designed to go together really well, no flashing at all, and surprisingly clear instructions. I was going to paint it a gun metal Grey like on the box but at the last minute, decided to go with a gun metal blue as the decals would still work.. Took my time, didn't rush the paint cure, and stuck to most of the color codes in the directions with just a little artistic license.

1994 Ford Lightning by AMT

This AMT Kit surprised me! I had very mild issues of any kind. This build went together very easily and gave me a little pleasure besides. I have since purchased a Revell kit of the 1999 Ford SVT Lightning and will build it to duplicate the one my Cuz up in Tulsa had.

2004 Pontiac GTO 5.7 L V8 Corvette LS1 engine by AMT

This kit was ok and enjoyable except for trying to paint the spoiler. Of all the things that can happen, the spoiler just would not take lacquer paint!, And yes, I was careful to thoroughly wash all the parts, but for some reason the surface just bubbled everything I put on it, including the primer. So, I finally just stripped it in brake fluid then washed it again. I then primed it and then brush painted it with a very thick coat of Gloss Black . Finally it took and I was done!

Tamiya Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

This was a fun kit that provided me many hours of build enjoyment, until the very end. LOL Almost everything fit really well all during the build and there was no flashing or misalignment anywhere.

The instructions were fairly good except for a few areas where the drawing was a little wonky.

The trouble came when I was attempting to put the

doors on, and the side body panels with the louvers, and making them line up with the edges of the hood, the main body, and the frame. They're a little wompyjawed in a few places due to parts warpage I guess. Love the kit anyway.

Airbrushed Iridescent Turquoise on the exterior. One oddity is a heavy steel bottom plate that screws in with 3 screws. Anyone know why thats part of this kit?

Mercedes SLR McLaren Start-up

I have begun paint work on this Tamiya Kit. So far, I am happy with results. The exterior Color is Hobby Lobby brand "Airbrush" acrylic Iridescent Turquoise over Vallejo

74.601 light gray primer.

I haven't yet decided on a complete color scheme on the interior although it willl have the same exterior Iridescent Turquoise color as a part of it.

New kits input

I have these two kits coming up in my build schedule soon. Anyone have experience with either one or both? I will appreciate any pointers, build notes, build quality opinions, problems with fitment or design..

Finished 2021 Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye Widebody by AMT

This kit was surprisingly well made and engineered fir an AMT product. I had no issues with fitment at all. Al parts were molded well with what looked like new molds or tooling.

Exterior is a Creatix Pearl Lime airbrushed at 40 psi with the purple stripe decals supplied in the kit. (These stripes were a billion pieces! If I had thought it thru...I would not have used them!)

Interior is Vallejo Dark Gunmetal airbrushed at 40 psi. Clearcoat is Minwax Polyurethane rattlecan.

This is also about my first burled walnut steering wheel that is somewhat realistic. Still have l a ways to go.

2021 AMT Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye Widebody edition

Recently, I found this new kit at HL and got it during their bi-weekly 40% off sale. My son decided on the exterior color scheme, and I planned the interior. It has been a pretty good-fitting kit without much flashing, and it's a fun build.

2016 Ford Mustang GT4 Racecar by Tamiya

Hello everyone!

Added quite a bit of carbon fiber to an already detailed kit. The decal that came with the kit for the rear wing wasn't very clear, and although the boxcover showed the front air dam as being carbon fiber, there was no decal for that. So I used some of my cf decal stock and did the front air dam, the two small side skirts, and I replaced the cf decal for the wing to match everything else. Other detail work was to meticulously paint the springs and shocks in contrasting colors, outline the windows in black, and to get some contrasting colors on the bottom chassis. I also cleaned up the disc brakes and calipers and then applied decals to the calipers. Last detail was to apply all the decals to the exterior and the interior with Micro-set then clear coat the entire car .

Just a little disappointed that although it was an expensive kit, it only had the bottom of the engine. Matter of fact, the hood doesn't even open.

It was, and still is a very fun build and I would consider buying it and building it again.

What do you think?

More Progress on 2016 Ford Mustang

I applied some carbon fiber decals..

  1. Front Air Dam

  2. Rear Spoiler

  3. Side Skirts

I Also applied some clear red taillight paint to the rear tailight lenses, some clear amber to the turn signals, and some gloss black trim to rear lenses as well as the headlight side reflectors. Also added some details to the rear diffuser panel & blacked the edges of all windows.

All that's left now is to sand and polish the body, then apply decals.

2016 Ford MustanG GT4 Race car

Tamiya kit is pretty detailed and nice mouldings, fit seems good so far. I am building the grey Ford Factory #17 version. Here's where I am currently. I have the body airbrushed a Vallejo Dark Gunmetal, but it orange peeled on me so I have a lot of sanding and polishing to do there.

Gordon Murray Automotive McLaren T50 Racecar by Tamiya

I bought this kit because after several Tamiya kits recently, I found myself spoiled by the fitment and nice finish of the kit parts. Compared to most of the Revell, AMT, Monogram, and other kits I've been doing, the higher quality of Tamiya manufacturing has me almost swearing other brands off.

However, this kit had its challenges for me. There are a LOT of clear windows in the kit, some of which do not install very positively, therefore it's too easy to mis-position one of these and thereby create a glue gob on the window, which I clearly (no pun intended...well, maybe there was) managed to accomplish. The chassis build also had its challenges, with some of the assembly instructions not being clear, causing some consternation on my part. There is some rear engine compartment warp going on as one side doesn't close all the way, but I didn't catch it before paint.

But, I persevered and got it completed. Idk...maybe my eyes arent good enuf any longer, or perhaps I dont have the patience I once had, but I feel like this one should have turned out much better. You be the judge. Oh! I just saw that I forgot the rearview cameras! I will get them on though.

Tamiya 2018 370Z Fairlady Heritage Edition

This was a fun and pleasant build. Everything was molded perfectly, fit and finish of the parts were exceptionally good. The only negative thing about this kit was that there is no engine, as the hood doesn't operate.

Exterior Color is Creatix Pearl Copper, interior is Testors Gloss Yellow and Semi Gloss Black. Wheels came chromed but I used a black permanent marker to darken them to more closely go with the exterior.
