i have a weird aversion

i have a weird aversion to anything that feels fake. i’m constantly wondering whether people are being genuine or just putting on an act.

even with really small things. if i see someone acting excited about something and i start thinking they’re faking it, it makes me uncomfortable. my first thought is usually, “if it’s not real, why all the theatrics? was that really necessary?”

it can be anything, honestly. any little thing that i perceive as fake tends to bother me.

is this an introvert thing?

My theory about the DD algorithm after doing this full-time

When I first started doing DD I accepted almost everything. I wanted to reach Gold and Platinum and I was even doing deliveries on an e-bike at the time.

Back then I assumed DD had everything figured out and that every offer was carefully calculated to be worth taking. After doing this full-time and paying more attention I don’t think that’s how it works.

My theory is simple DD has two main goals:

- Get orders delivered as quickly as possible.
- Pay drivers as little as possible.

So when an order goes out I don’t think DD is saying “this is a great offer for a dasher.” I think it’s saying “what’s the lowest amount we can offer and still get someone to take it?”

If a driver declines it, DD learns that price wasn’t enough. The offer gets passed around, the pay increases a little, and eventually someone accepts it.

That’s why I don’t get upset when I decline bad offers. I just wait. Most of the time I eventually get offers that meet my standards.

I also think this explains why stacked orders can be a mess sometimes. Customers complain that their food arrives late or cold, and honestly, I’ve seen it happen. Sometimes the second customer in a stack gets delayed, or DD adds another order while I’m already delivering.

To me, that’s a DD logistics problem, not a driver problem. If the food arrives cold, the customer should contact support and get compensated. That’s feedback DD can use to improve the system.

At the end of the day, I try to look at DD as a cold algorithm, not something personal. It’s trying to optimize for its goals, and I’m trying to optimize for mine.

That’s why I don’t really get mad at bad offers anymore. I just decline them and move on.
What do you think? Am I completely wrong, or have you noticed the same thing?

10 out of 11, almost $100 in 4 hours is this good?

posting this because i usually see screenshots from people who declined way more orders than they accepted.

this ended up being a good session for me, and i only had to decline one order the entire time.

analyzing the dd algorithm

ever since i started doing dd as my main source of income i’ve been trying to figure out how the dd algorithm works with some help from chatgpt

i’ve come to a few conclusions

they’re not absolute truths. maybe they’re right maybe they’re not. who knows

what i’m trying to say is that a lot of people point to a $4 order going 11 miles or something similar as if it’s a personal attack against them

i just see it as a failed attempt by the algorithm

nothing personal hit that decline button.

the algorithm doesn’t take declines personally either it doesn’t matter if you decline 5 orders in a row.

2008 Accord whistling at 2500 RPM (not the belt)

Hey everyone. I recently bought this 2008 Honda Accord 4-cyl EX-L and it makes a whistle/whine sound right around 2500 RPM. At first I thought it was the serpentine belt, but it doesn’t seem to be the belt.

Has anyone experienced this or know what it could be?
