Saved by fellow riders
A little late, but I want to thank the two motorcyclists who stopped to help me this weekend when my bike died on the GW Bridge.
Traffic had been shut down for construction for about 20 minutes. Like an idiot, I turned the bike off but left the ignition on, and somehow that was enough to drain the battery. When traffic started moving again, the bike wouldn’t start, so I ended up pushing it across the bridge.
It was miserable. I was pushing uphill. Cars were swerving around me, coming way too close, honking, and flipping me off like I had chosen to take my motorcycle for a leisurely stroll across the GWB.
The first motorcyclist pulled up and offered to help. For some dumb, prideful reason, I waved him off. About three seconds after he rode away, I realized I was being a massive idiot.
A few minutes later, another rider stopped and offered to push me. He got me across the bridge and up to enough speed that I was able to pop the clutch and get the bike started again.
So if either of you happen to see this: THANK YOU. Seriously. You turned a really stressful, dangerous situation into a reminder that the NYC motorcycle community still looks out for its own.
