Im 22M and my dad passed when I was 9 and I lived with my single mom

My teenage years and relationship with her was never the best with her being abusive

Now that im a bit older and look back at things, I can't imagine saying the same things to my kids

For years she would insult me and call me an idiot/dumb/useless etc and even used to hit me

I know it sounds really dumb but after going through this my whole life is this not normal?

Repeating these hurtful things to your kids makes so sense to me and is counterproductive

Now she just throws in my face how she took care of me when my dad died and paid for food etc, which im grateful for obviously but I don't think it excuses the stuff she put me through

I just wanna genuinely know. Is repeated insults abuse to me as a kid supposed to be okay and forgiven because she put food on the table?

Now even though she still abuses me and takes me for granted when I said I wanna move out she's giving me the guilt trip of saying after everything she sacrificed for me I wanna leave
