Wondering what I should do? Thinking about getting a CDL and applying to the outside line apprenticeship I’m an inside wireman pre apprentice right now. Thinking it might be best to be a ground-man for a bit and see the work before applying striaght into the apprenticeship.

Just got my CDL just wondering where I can find some lot lizards and how much they charge an hour
Looking into getting my CDL class A manual with air brakes.
The school in the milwauke and Chicago land area is about $6000
I have never driven a semi/pulled a trailer yet alone even a single manual vehicle.
The classes are one month long
The options are 5 days a week for one month (8 hour days)
Or
2 days a week (weekend classes) for one month (8 hour days)
I was told by the owner of the school there is a %90 precent passing rate on the first skills test and you can get up to 5 retest that they train you on. Idk if he is just pulling my leg to get me to sign up I told him I’d pay cash.
Would it be possible so I wouldn’t have to quit my job to be able to pass this school if I did the weekend classes? Or am I better to do the weekday classes?
Thanks
do you contracting lineman in texas (swlcat) or the south/southwest get the 2 pensions (local pension) and the (national pension) or just annuity?
I know it definitely depends on the local and state but what’s the highest and lowest amount you have made per hour and what state/ local
Was talking to what i believe to be either a utility or municipal linemen in my city today and he told me to check out this website. Went on it and there was a shit ton of contractor links for job applications. Kinda confused what this is because I thought you had to go through like a union test and interview to get in but that might be for contracting / constructor work. Does anybody know what this is
I’m guessing it’s an organization of utility or municipal contractors?
What is a municipal linemen? Is it the same as utility? My utility in my city is apart of my contracting local so idk
Wondering if y’all pipe fitters and service fitters (hvac) do any local to local traveling
Wondering what you guys do for lodging rvs? Air bnbs? Hotels? Tents? Sleep in cars?
And what’s the day to day task and work is like for a ground-man is it just digging holes?
Also
What is a book 3 groundman? I always thought that would be a groundman working out of classification like as an inside wireman in there local
Same with book 4 don’t really know what that is
Thinking about applying for the linemen apprenticeship and possibly doing a groundman book to book road trip before I start my line apprenticeship I’m part of an inside local right now
It kinda sucks you have to sign the books inperson for a lot of locals.
Thanks
I’m an inside wireman for the ibew im a cw so basically a pre apprentice and I was thinking about getting my CDL and trying get a line apprenticeship due to the extreme competition of the inside wireman apprenticeship where I live and trying to skip the ground man route and just apply straight into the apprenticeship down here in the Midwest but i see a lot of you guys saying you gotta wait awhile for calls as a ground man Or work book 4? I don’t even know what book 4 is I only know what book 1,2 and 3 are
Do you guys have a lot of work as ground-man or is it slow across the USA? I have noticed there’s a shit ton of book 3 ground-man working at my job-site as inside wireman.
Can I even get into the apprenticeship skipping the ground-man route with electrical experience and a CDL but no line school?
I am strongly considering getting my CDL and leaving my inside wireman pre apprenticeship to apply. I wouldn’t mind having to apply in different states. I probably won’t even get in this year for my inside wireman apprenticeship my local has a 5% acceptance rate lmao
Thanks
Made a post yesterday but I want to go into more detail. I have never driven a huge long trailer yet alone a single manual vehicle I am a pretty quick learner though and am wondering and worried if this would be enough to pass apparently we get 5 retest with the program for the skills test and the help you get your permit with a tutoring week before school starts. It’s 6 grand for The Weekend program and like 300 cheaper for the weekday one which is a month long of weeks. I’m confused I thought we needed 120 hours of training ( I’m in Wisconsin by the way) would this be enough to pass if I did weekends? Or do I have to quit my job and do the month long class during the week?
Thanks
Thanks
Honestly was just wondering if I accept a utility linemen apprenticeship would I be able to transfer after I top out to the contractor/constructor side of the union or no?
Are the JW tickets different?
Thanks any advice helps I appreciate everything
