Portrait crits

Didn’t really use a reference except it’s supposed to be Ivan from alien stage.

Any critiques welcome. I’m working on portraits mostly. I’m going for a semi realistic look like Rick parsa and I’m trying to improve proportions, color, and anatomy. I want to make slightly stylized character art with a painterly look

Master study crits. Is there a likeness?

Is there a likeness to the reference?

How can I improve? My goal is to do great portraits and full figure illustrations.

I feel like I’m also getting a muddy look. Thoughts?

Likeness? Round brush?

Is there a likeness? I know there’s a couple of issues that I couldn’t resolve. I would love resources to help with digital painting and portraits.

Also should I be using brushes other than the round brush? And is the blender brush okay to use or should I try to avoid it?

Digital painting study

Digital painting study on Philippe mercier portrait. Second picture is the reference. Is there a likeness at all? I can’t pinpoint exactly what’s off but it doesn’t really look much like the reference to me?

Any critiques welcome

Krita painting

Very new to digital painting. Anatomy is tough and It’s so hard to pick the right colors for shading. I don’t get how people get such smooth renderings.

Any criticism and suggestions for resources on digital painting are welcome

Opacity brush overlap help

How do I avoid getting this effect when painting? I could turn off the opacity but isn’t that sort of important to get a smooth rendering? Sorry still new to digital and Krita

21/52, June books read

The Sl*ts- 5⭐️ a reread of my favorite of Dennis copper’s books. There’s so much misinformation from different characters, it keeps you questioning what the true narrative is. Love the message board format

In Their Arms- 3⭐️ following a hopeless man’s search for connection. The writing is not super refined or anything, but the inner monologue is very relatable

The White Paper- 4⭐️ Jean cocteau’s melancholic series of vignettes depicting encounters of forbidden love. The lousy luck sequence really stuck with me even though it was so short. Dude really has lousy luck. Entire novel was a quick read.

Want to make art like Rick parsa and sabertoon art

I am very new to digital art. I have little experience with traditional art. My goal is to be able to do digital illustrations like sabertoon art and Rick parsa.

Is that possible to do as a self taught artist? Currently I’m using a lot of sinix designs tutorials and the force dynamic life drawing book and video lessons.

Can I actually achieve my goal from learning on my own? I’d appreciate honest answers and advice and any resources you suggest.

19/52 getting back on track

Wasn’t motivated to read most of this month. This brings me back to 1 book behind schedule

The Sl*ts by Dennis Cooper- 5 ⭐️ transgressive work about a group of online users reviewing and gossiping about a male prostitute by the name of Brad and the web of rumors and lies that surrounds him. Ive read other works by this author. One of my favorites this year

Tips to improve

Very little experience and just a few days ago switched over to digital. My first goal is to be able to make good fan art so I’m practicing portraits and figure drawing. This took me about 3 hours to just get this much done. I’m currently using the concepts app and eventually I’ll get an iPad or something similar.

My lines are very bad and I want to get better control. Any resource suggestions would be really appreciated
