I have found a used airbag for sale in a second hand shop near me and am thinking of buying it - but it seems like these airbags require either a subscription to or an outright purchase of the box that is the brains of the operation. I don't really want to pay the subscription, and I'm wondering if the box that they have in the shop will work without paying anything extra. Is there anything that can tell me whether the box is working as part of an outright purchase or whether I will have to pay a subscription to use it?

Stupid question:

I only got this car recently, and I know the engines are known for their oil consumption, so I checked the oil the other day and the dipstick looked like this (which I read to mean it was at the "low" mark) - fine, I top up about 0.8L (just under a quart) and it's still exactly the same - am I missing something or has this got even less oil in it than I thought?

I'm aware that as always with buying cheap crap like this it may well stop working after a little while, but it's a risk I'm willing to take at the price. My main concern is having something connected to my OBD port where it could theoretically change stuff on my car and/or track all my driving data. How much can actually be done via OBD on a car as old as mine (2010 NC MX-5)?
