The Lilacs have FINALLY arrived (Midwest spring home)
I’ve lived in the Midwest nearly all my life and bought my home that only has three “bushes”. One is a traditional lilac (big lavender flowers- generally smells amazing), a gorgeous crabapple (the most beautiful fuchsia flowers in the spring and berries for wildlife all year), and a Lilac tree/bush (tiny purple flowers but the most intense and long lasting smell of all). I’ve sat outside for the last week and a half waiting in the lilac smell to enchant my home. I have the tiniest porch with a beautiful view of the sky in my tiny Iowa town. The big lilacs have been blooming and I smelled nothing, and the crabapple showed her beauty- but no smell.
However, TONIGHT- oh my goodness the smell of lilacs is so intoxicating. I have a super smelling condition which in this particular moment is so incredibly amazing. Lovely temperature, a private personal experience, and whichever lilacs decided to “Care Bear stare” their smell across the neighborhood. I have noticed after nearly five years of owning my house that three of us on our block have the intensely fragrant lilacs. The smell is SO MUCH STRONGER AT NIGHT.
I honestly wish I could invite anyone who is a friend to enjoy my second Adirondack seat in my porch, in the dark, and relish in this gift. There is no better time of year to me than lilac time.
I love owning my home. 💜
