Vacation with Mealworms (3 weeks)

Hi everyone,

i'am going to have 3 weeks of vacation and i need some advice what to do with my worms in that time.

- I have 5 Boxes 60x30cm each with around 3cm of substrate. Worms are for human consumption.
- Each of the box contain worms in 2 week stadium apart starting with eggs laid just right now and ending with a box with worms approx. 12mm in length.
- With the current temperature those will be ready in around 4 weeks. (i hope not earlier)
- The substrate should be fine for all boxes except of the oldest one.

My plan:

- Adding some more substrate to the oldest box
- getting some Water Gel and putting it on a PP plate so the worms can get the moist.

But what i'am not sure: what do i do with the egg and very small worm boxes?

How do you handle Vacation with the worms?

Thank you so much

Form, Flex, Fit? Whats first?

Hello everyone.

I'am skiing since 1990 with a break from 2000s to 2025, when this videos were shot.
When watching this video i was truly shocked. I actually look like a bag of potatoes.

Whatever. This post should not focus on my potential future as french fries but instead specifically on my leg/shoe connection - as far as this is even possible.

First of all: I'am wearing Nordic rental shoes with a flex of 85 or 90. Its a indoor hall, "red" slope but pretty short. hard to get on speed. Temperature is approx. -1 degree celsius. So Flex wise the softest possible condition. But not only here, also in other situations at -10c on 85 flex i have the same problem.

My problem: I have a hard time bringing my shin to the front of the shoe. Not because of fear but more because i loose control. Me feet does not feel very safe in the shoe. It feels like the fit of the shoe is too loose but the length is fine (really) the heel however moves which i think is the reason why can can't bring the shin it to the front on the slope.

In the mountains on blue and red slopes i often ski around 50km/h max speed and it feels like carving but honestly, it also felt like carving when my wife made that video.

So now to the Video. In my eyes i lean back way too much which fits to my feeling.
My first wish is: Please tell me your thoughts and second:

What do you think do i need first. Better form or better fit?

Thanks a lot for your help

Wheat Bran size end sieving of frass and worms

Hello Everyone.

I've started raising mealworms some months ago and i now have 4 boxes (400x600mm) full of worms (approx. 5000-8000 each)

Thats great news but i have some Problem. I have access to two types of organic wheat bran: fine and coarse.

Both are unevenly distributed in their particle size. From the fine one i can easily sieve away 50% of the bran with a 0.3mm sieve (frass has 0.6) so this is actually a big issue for me, i dont want to loose more than 50% of my bran.

On the other hand the coarse one is somewhere between 1 and 4mm although very thin. it works great but i have a hard time sieving the worms because there is always bigger bran pieces left.

Help.

Thanks. :)

Select Through with edge filter does not select all top face edges

Hello everyone.

I'am having a hard time selecting edges on just one face.
When disabling "Select Through" and enable "Select Edge Priority" / Edge filter works generally but when selecting my edges, it randomly misses some of them.

Why could that be? There is nothing above this face.

Thank you for helping me :)

Mealworm separation with light for human consumption. (korean style)

Hello everyone.

i found some Videos in which one can see a pretty decent way to separate fit mealworms from dead and sick ones.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXH5o5HM2Q8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKd8QbLeJP4

The concept is simple.
A box with two open ends and a concave sieve at the bottom.
Below that sieve is a Lamp which generates some heat but not too much, the worms should not (yet) be roasted.
The worms escape from that area into another box, leaving dead and unfit worms behind with some other remainings.

I'am very new to this entire topic but since i'am aiming to consume those worms myself, i have a pretty significant interest to produce a clean product. So for my ...idk.. maybe 10k worms per year i will grow i think this seems to be the cheapest way to do a proper separation.

So my question to you all:

Who else does have experience with this method?
Does someone know the mesh-size used in there?

How are you separating your mealworms?
