Evil step mother trope

I finally get it and fairy tales have it completely wrong. Whether it was snow white or Hansel and Gretel or Cinderella.

It was the kids who drove these women mad. They must have worn on her last nerves and push her beyond all patience.

I am not a step mother in the traditional sense. My husband had a cat before we married.

I love our bundle to bits. She's the sweetest little angel. Sadly for her she's not been ok for close to a year. She's been vomitting on a much regular basis than is normal for her. She is old. We've taken her to different vets and she's gone through so many tests but nothing conclusive. She's healthy basically.

My heart breaks for her that she's not well and I am willing to support her the best I can.

Now my complaint is in no shape or form blaming her. She's the one who is ill and not feeling well.

I am however losing patience with having to keep cleaning vomit on rugs beds. I bought a new expensive duvet and that got washed 3 times in the first week. We changed bedding yesterday and now I'm needing to wash it this morning. Today she's already vomitted 3 times and it's only midday now.

My patience is truly wearing thin but we don't know what more we can do to help her.

I'm just here to vent. I hope someone can commiserate.

Rate the couples

Rate the couple regardless of whether they are still together or not.

Nesryn and Sartaq - love!

Manon and Dorian - steamy

Elide and Lorcan - I'm into it edited

Lysandra and Aedion - grew on me but felt forced, like you need to be coupled up because everyone else is

They don't feature but Borte and her fiance's volatile relationship is awesome

I love Yrene but that relationship also feels forced especially to get married so soon. I wish SJM made Kashin yearn/Pine for her more

Celeana and Dorian - hot

Celeana/Aelin and Sam, Chaol and Rowan were not believable for me. I think SJM tried slow burn but not too well.

KOA - Lysandra

Just started the book. Just finished chapter after the first battle led by Aedion.

Question: does the army not know that Lysandra is a shifter? How can she hide that? She's on the battlefield as the ghost leopard. Surely the army can put 2 and 2 together about her and Aelin?

Lifting Question - Knee issue

A few weeks ago I went to a spinning class and I think that's where my knee issue started. I know bike setup and high resistance are the cause.

I'm not sure if during that week I made things worse by training legs.

I then spend the week after wearing a knee brace and kept leg exercises to a minimum.

I have not noticed any issues since then but this morning, I did some bodyweight squats and now my knee is complaining again.

My program is that tomorrow is back squat (60kg/130lb) and it's my last lifting day for the week. Next week it's a full deload week and then I'll be back again at it the week of the 27th.

My question: should I skip leg day tomorrow even though I'm taking a full deload week next week? What can I do to help my knee recover? I'd really like to be back to normal when I get back to my normal training the week of the 27th.

Busy season at work

Work is starting to get really busy and it's becoming challenging to keep up with workouts. But what's tougher is the eating part of things. The stress is making it hard to stay in a calorie deficit.

Ideas on how to stay on track regardless busy stressful season that will last till around end of September.

I still have around 80 pounds to lose.

Tower of Dawn

Just started and so far I'm intrigued and enjoying the setup. Disclaimer I'm a Chaoll fan and hope for a great turn out for him. Excited to see how things unfold and looking forward to catching up on Yrene.

Edit 1: Still early in the book. I might be judging too soon. I'm still enjoying the new continent and characters.

Disclaimer: I know and accept that there will be varied, flawed and even down right morally grey and evil characters. I've no issues with that. End disclaimer.

Now on to my thoughts so far.

The writing is irking me. Not sure if I'm overthinking it but I'm picking up hints of microaggressions or possibly "unconscious bias" (aka minor racism)...

Some of the descriptions of the new characters make me feel uneasy. Mostly described as plain. They are not as beautiful as... fill in the blanks.

I've no issues with LGBTQIA. But the black lesbian trope is so overdone in entertainment these days for inclusivity browny points. Yes I remember that Aedion and Archer had queer sides to them. But the first and so far only queer relationship is black lesbians.

Their features remind me too much of the Valg. But it's possible that that's just a coincidence.

The slavery issue.

Still a fan of Chaol, but not liking the whole "getting them to heel" appearing at all and most certainly more than once...just sends me back to the event that started BLM protests...

So yeah...the writing is bothering me.

My smart watch has died recently and now I'm considering getting a smart ring. A lot of these rings have a black option and all I can think of is the Valg rings and it's making me a little uneasy 🫣😅...it's ridiculous o know but I wanted to share with people who would understand 😂
