Tower of Dawn
Just started and so far I'm intrigued and enjoying the setup. Disclaimer I'm a Chaoll fan and hope for a great turn out for him. Excited to see how things unfold and looking forward to catching up on Yrene.
Edit 1: Still early in the book. I might be judging too soon. I'm still enjoying the new continent and characters.
Disclaimer: I know and accept that there will be varied, flawed and even down right morally grey and evil characters. I've no issues with that. End disclaimer.
Now on to my thoughts so far.
The writing is irking me. Not sure if I'm overthinking it but I'm picking up hints of microaggressions or possibly "unconscious bias" (aka minor racism)...
Some of the descriptions of the new characters make me feel uneasy. Mostly described as plain. They are not as beautiful as... fill in the blanks.
I've no issues with LGBTQIA. But the black lesbian trope is so overdone in entertainment these days for inclusivity browny points. Yes I remember that Aedion and Archer had queer sides to them. But the first and so far only queer relationship is black lesbians.
Their features remind me too much of the Valg. But it's possible that that's just a coincidence.
The slavery issue.
Still a fan of Chaol, but not liking the whole "getting them to heel" appearing at all and most certainly more than once...just sends me back to the event that started BLM protests...
So yeah...the writing is bothering me.
