[Shinola] How Shinola broke my watch and spent 2 months ignoring me

Two years ago while in Michigan for work, I decided to purchase a Shinola watch to commemorative some work I had been doing in the state. I had heard the warnings about the brand's watches but I wanted something Michigan focused and really was drawn to their petoskey stone faced watches. I had the watch for 2 years before the clasp on watch started failing and I dropped it off in store to be repaired. This is where my nightmare with their customer service team started.

I dropped off my watch in-store on April 1 and received an email 3 days later that their factory received my watch. That is the last time they reached out to me unprompted.

I was told repairs take 10-15 business days but when they hadn't reached out to me by May 12 I sent an email. They followed up letting me know my repairs were complete and my watch was on its way back to me.

When the watch arrived back to me, it was immediately clear to me it wasn't the same watch. I had specifically gotten the watch for the special petoskey stone (each watch is different) and when I checked the serial I confirmed it was a completely different watch.

After some back and forth with customer support, they sent me a return shipping label for the wrong watch and I returned the watch to them. Tracking said they received the watch back on May 27 they, of course, never reached out to me. When I reached out they confirmed they received the wrong watch and gave me options for a new dial face.

I was confused, I had sent my watch in for a watch band fix now they are offering me stone faces. On June 4th, 2 months since they received my watch, they admitted that the dial (watch face) was cracked. When I gave them the watch it wasn't cracked and it had taken 2 months since then to get any kind of answer.

When I, again, followed up with these concerns their story changed again as they gave me more detail.

At this point, I have my watch in hand, the watch face is different and no longer holds the sentimental value it had before, the band is not sized correctly and I'm hours away from the nearest Shinola store, and I have a bitter taste in my mouth. But hey, they gave me a 20% discount and a free journal.

I had been eyeing one of their dive watches as my next piece for the collection, but at this point I'm washing my hands of this brand and if you value post-purchase customer experience I'd recommend the same to you.
