Advice/help

Pics for attention.
I’ve had my grc for about 2 and a half years. I’ve done 11 track days with it. I’m at the point where it’s getting slightly too expensive to keep tracking (brakes are crazy expensive) and as I get faster I’m gonna need an oil cooler (which is fairly normal and to be expected) and a transfer case cooler/controller because the awd is starting to overheat more often.

I also use this as my work vehicle I fix appliances so it’s stuffed with parts and tools everyday.

It’s been doing its job decently but it’s not the best tool for either job.

I’m in Brooklyn ny so parking when working is a big reason why I haven’t gotten a bigger van yet.

I have a driveway I can park in at home and leave a second car there.

I think the perfect work vehicle for me would be a transit connect (or equivalent ram/nissan) I see them for anywhere from 5-20k in my area and don’t really care what it looks like as long as it stops drives.

Now for the track car I should probably just get a Miata because they are the answer but I don’t really want one. I’m thinking c5 corvette would probably make the most sense for me.

Carvana offered me 33k for my car and I think about 13k should be enough for the work vehicle so I’ll have about 20k leftover

This is really my main question the rest is some nonsense backstory that you prolly didn’t need to read. But Im not really sure about this but I kinda want to get something with a dct is there anything decent for approx 20k that can be had with a dct and not cost more than my grc is to maintain. It’s going to mostly be a track car and the eventual plan over a few years is to strip it and cage it.

My current list is
2011-2013 bmw 135i it can be had with a dct idk much about bmw’s tho and I genereally try to do my own maintenance.

E92 m3 I don’t think I’ll find a decent one for 20k

Mk6-7 gti but they’re fwd and ik they’re good but when my grc goes into fwd mode I just don’t like it even tho I’m barely 2 seconds slower.

Audi tt with the dsg idk much about them but maybe it’s a possibility.

Do any of these make sense or should I just get a c5 (or a really nice Mazda speed Miata that just popped up for sale)

TLDR: are there any sub 20k cars with a dct that is fairly reliable and not much more expensive to maintain than a gr Corolla. Or do I just do the sensible option and get a Miata/c5 corvette/ perhaps brz/86

Perfection? Or try again.

Got home from a track day at lime rock park and made myself some supper. NY strip reverse seared pulled from oven at 130 internal, put it in the freezer while the pan was heating up. Seared in tallow for about 45 seconds a side

Trackday at lime rock park

This was my best lap of the day at lrp. Super fun track that is very easy to learn.

I was supposed to be there for two days but while doing my basic inspection in the morning of the 2nd day I discovered a very large crack in one of the rotors so I went home.

24’ premium
Falken rt615k tires
Pagid rsl29 pads (that are holding up remarkably well I’m on my 6th day of using them including driving to and from the track and they still have a bit less than half left)
Rbf600 brake fluid
MST v1 intake

Edit. I found these rotors. I can go through ten of these for every two oem or girodisc they’re probably much heavier but that’s a very significant amount of money I’d be saving

Any ideas what this is?

Did a track day at limerock and on my way home it started making a very weird noise. When I get on throttle it kinda groans/judders/ rumbles. It mostly happens at low speeds in 1st and 2nd gear when I’m giving a bit more throttle. It also happens from a stop letting off the clutch it vibrates/grinds a lot and kinda feels like some gear or something is grinding (I’m gonna make another post about my trackday)

It’s a 24’ premium with about 34k miles

GR Corolla at mmc

This was my first time at mmc went with mass tuning.
I’m still pretty new to hpde and I’m definitely doing lots of thing wrong, feedback is very welcome.

Car is a basically stock 24 gr Corolla
Tires are falken rt615k+
Pads are pagid rsl29

Huge shoutout to the other dude in a grc, I bent a rim on a pothole about 20min from the track it was losing air slowly and I got there safely but definitely couldn’t drive it on track. And the guy in the other grc brought his track set with him in the car and lent me one of his street rims, and I swapped tires at the garage on site.

(TLDR) mmc is also a fantastic track if you ever get the chance you should definitely try it out. the facilities are also extremely cool

Track day at njmp Thunderbolt

This was my pb this past Sunday with nasa. I got to de2 which was very exciting.

I’m on falken rt615k’s and pagid rsl29 pads and have the v1 mst intake (it’s probably not great for heat soak but the turbo noise is fabulous) otherwise it’s stock.

I do think it’s time for some cooling mainly oil and transfer case.

For oil does anyone recommend a cooler? I live in Brooklyn ny so it takes a while to get up to temp especially in the colder months.

And for the transfer case I know I’m going to need an awd controller and a cooler but it’s basically going to cost at least 3-4k? And the 2 options are 555 engineering or lamspeed . I don’t think I’m ready to spend this much rn but trying to plan ahead a little and just drive it in fwd when it feels overheats.
