1300 mile round trip.

2017 Yaris Ai usually gets around 42-45 mpg hwy. Fully loaded with fishing, camping gear and kayak. What do you think my mpg was for the trip? Who needs a truck anyway!

First ever walleye

Never caught a walleye before just wondering if this was a good one or average. I didn’t measure or weigh it. I think it was maybe 4 or 5 pounds.

Whelp at least I know my automatic inflate PFD works!

So as the title says, it works. Got my kayak about two months ago and knew it was just a matter of time before I flipped it but didn’t think I’d do lt like I did.
I live on a small lake and used it only there so far. Easy setup just walk out my back door 50 feet throw my gear in and go. Today for some reason instead of putting my gear in and putting the kayak in the water and stepping in. I put everything in and the kayak halfway in (it’s on a steep bank) and climb in thinking I would just slide in. Nope before I could say Mother fer I was floating tits up in my new Pfd. I’d been planning on going out and practicing flipping and getting back in someday so I went ahead and did that a few times since I was already in the water.
What I learned today. The mud is about 2 feet deep along the bank where I put in at and it’s nice to be able to just go right back inside and take a shower.
I did go back out and catch 7 or 8 bass afterwards so there’s at least that! Good times!!

Pool noodles for kayak rack on a sedan

For anyone else that has done this would putting a piece of pvc pipe in the noodles help support the kayak or would it be worse for the roof top of the car? I tried it with just the noodles today and everything was fine and strapped down great but just wondering if anyone has tried it before. Thanks for any comments.

Michigan trip

Going up to Detroit (from southern Indiana)last week of August to visit my daughter for a day or two. After that I’m gonna solo camp and kayak fish for four or five days at a State Park. I’ve fished up at Fayette county a couple times and did really good for small mouth last year but went in early June this year and got skunked. Locals said everything was off a couple weeks because of the winter weather but who knows. Anyway looking to go maybe somewhere in the northern lower part of Michigan on either lake for small mouth. Thought about Tawas Point state park and that area maybe. If you could go anywhere and fish that time of year where would you go? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Oh yeah this will be my first trip with my own kayak (usually rent) so I’m not too advanced kayaking wise.
